Interesting re "transliteration". Transcription as used by Shoghi Effendi (technically not transliteration) is a topic that I have spent a lot of time on. Trying to find like minded people is difficult. I have compiled a 270 A4 page (9-point sized font) transcription list and glossary for our editing work that is posted on two web sites. https://www.miscellanie.com/transcription/index.html Withiel (talk) 02:40, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A major component of any WikiProject is assessing the quality of its articles. One of the initial duties of this project is to assign ratings on all articles based on two scales: its present quality and its relative importance.

Article sources

[edit]
Good sources for Bahá'í-related articles
Finding good sources is key to developing Bahá'í-related articles.

This page offers a list of suggested sources for articles relating to the Bahá'í Faith.

The sources below are classified according to their type: Either they are primary, secondary, or tertiary sources. Reliable, published secondary sources are preferred on Wikipedia, especially in establishing the notability of a subject (see WP:PSTS), but all three types of sources can be used to support statements within articles. All analyses and interpretive or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary or tertiary source, and must not be an original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors.

An additional concern when selecting a source for an article is its independence: Sources must be intellectually independent of their subject in order to prove that they are notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. In this case, it means that relying solely on Bahá'í sources (or, conversely, on "anti-Bahá'í" sources) is not sufficient to establish notability.

Primary sources

[edit]

The following can be considered as primary sources, as they collect original materials produced by the central figures of the Bahá'í Faith and by Bahá'í institutions. These sources are generally not independent, as they are closely associated with the worldwide Bahá'í community. As such, these sources may not be used to establish the notability of a subject (see WP:PSTS), but they can be used to support statements within articles.

General collections

[edit]
  • Bahá'í Library Online – Unofficial library of Bahá'í materials from various sources
  • Ocean – Downloadable collection of writings from a variety of religious traditions
  • BahaiResearch.com – Collected writings from a variety of religious traditions
  • Holy-Writings.com – Collected writings from a variety of religious traditions

Topical collections

[edit]

Secondary sources

[edit]

The following can be considered as secondary sources, as they collect works that offer analysis of the primary sources below. They may or may not be intellectually independent of the worldwide Bahá'í community; care should be used to select one or more independent, secondary sources to establish the notability of a subject.

Tertiary sources

[edit]

The following can be considered as tertiary sources, as they summarize primary and secondary sources. They may or may not be intellectually independent of the worldwide Bahá'í community; care should be used to select one or more independent sources to establish the notability of a subject. They are especially useful in evaluating due weight, especially when primary and secondary sources contradict one another.

Tasks

[edit]

As a consequence of assessing the strength of articles and the scope defined above, members are encouraged to perform the following tasks on articles:

Collaborations

[edit]

A common feature of many WikiProjects is a collaboration - an article selected by those users for special focus for a period of time. As assessment gets under way and users join the WikiProject, it is desirable to select collaborations for improving articles one at a time.

The main project for standardizing articles having to do with religions is WikiProject Religion. There are several other projects that assess and index religious material on Wikipedia. Wikipedia:WikiProject Religious texts might also have some overlap with the Baháʼí texts.

[edit]

There is coverage of the Baháʼí Faith on all of the Wikimedia Foundation sister projects. If you are a user on Wikipedia, you automatically have membership there as well and many of the policies and editing techniques are the same across several of the projects.

  • Wikibooks is collaborating on an introductory book about the Baháʼí Faith. You can add content or clean up the existing pages.
  • Wikimedia Commons is a repository of free media; it can host audio, images, or video and has several Baháʼí images that can be freely used. If you have any media that you can contribute, you may want to upload it there for use in all of the other Wikimedia Foundation projects.
  • Wikinews is a site citizen journalism with a few relevant stories. As news events occur related to persecution of Baháʼís, you may want to consider writing about them there.
  • Wikiquote has pages for quotations by and about persons and topics. Presently, there are pages in English on Baháʼí Faith, Baháʼu'lláh, the Báb, and `Abdu'l-Bahá.
  • Wikisource allows users to upload original documents. As of this writing, there are not any relevant documents uploaded there. Since many texts related to the Baháʼí Faith can be reproduced in the public domain, it is possible to upload them there. It is vitally important that you understand the proper copyright status of any document or text before uploading it to Wikisource.
  • Wiktionary provides dictionary definitions, including one on Baháʼí.
  • Wikiversity encourages collaboration on learning resources and has a topic on the Baháʼí Studies. You can add resources from other Wikimedia projects there, as well as direct readers to print and Internet resources that will help provide a more comprehensive view of the Baháʼí Faith.

In addition, all of these projects have multilingual components, so you are not limited to simply editing and strengthening English-language pages. There are simple English editions of Wikibooks, Wikiquote, and Wiktionary and none of them presently have any material related to the Baháʼí Faith.
