16:12:54, 7 June 2019 review of draft by ElizabethPBallou

[edit]

Hi! I wrote a first draft of this article, and it got rejected for not having enough notable sources/linking to the NYVGCC's website as a source. Since then, I've reworked the page to have higher-quality sources. I've also deleted any facts that couldn't be independently verified in a source other than the nonprofit's website.

My question now is: should I do anything else before I resubmit? Am I making other big mistakes that I don't know about?

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

Why is this topic not notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia when the publication has been studied by news research entities, such as the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and Nieman Lab, for academic purposes as well as covered by other media outlets such as WGNO-TV, Biz Orleans, and The Advocate New Orleans. Its inspiration, The Levee, is included in Wikipedia, and since it became defunct and many of its former writers and staff began contributing to Neutral Ground News, it has picked up the mantle and continues in its spirit. Littleeasy (talk) 22:43, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Littleeasy. The draft cites a story in which the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University makes passing mention of Neutral Ground News, but cites nothing that says they or the Nieman Foundation for Journalism has "studied" the publication. The cited coverage by WGNO and the Sun Herald is not significant coverage either. The only independent and reliable piece of substance is Biz New Orleans. Novice editors are commonly advised to cite at least three such sources to demonstrate notability.
The existence of The New Orleans Levee does not mean that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. It may only mean that no one has gotten around to deleting it yet. It is not a good excuse to create similar articles. The essay WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS may help you understand why. If you wish to learn from example articles, be sure to use only Wikipedia's best, such as Seara (newspaper), The American Israelite, Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Golos Truda, Nouvelles Extraordinaires de Divers Endroits, or Washington Blade. If you're interested in The Levee, you might do more good by improving that article before trying to start a new one. --Worldbruce (talk) 03:42, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
