Request on 00:53:15, 6 February 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Bradhayes6

[edit]

Hello - Please help us, as we are new to this and not sure of what else is required. My article has been rejected twice due to notability issues. Sources have been listed (at least 13 or more)for the achievements, mostly from older newspaper publications. Do they need to be links instead of just listing the source & dates? example: [3] The Durham Sun Durham N.C. May 11, 1904-page4. Also, there is reference to Arthur Bradsher in another Wikipedia article: 1905 College Baseball All-Southern Team. Thank you so much for any help you can provide to us. Bradhayes6 (talk) 00:53, 6 February 2018 (UTC) Bradhayes6 (talk) 00:53, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bradhayes6 - Hi Brad, some feedback on the draft below:
  • Notability - baseball's not my field but reading baseball notability, which the first reviewer highlighted, his career as a college player doesn't appear to meet the criteria;
  • Structure - the layout for the draft should follow our standard guidelines. This example, Ed Delahanty, shows you how to do section headings;
  • Sourcing - the Delahanty article also shows how to cite old newspapers. If they can be retrieved, as you've done with Source 9, it certainly improves the draft as readers can verify what's being claimed;
  • Tone - even if the above can all be addressed, the whole tone of the article reads like a tribute to a much-loved grandfather, rather than an encyclopedic article. Have a look at this, Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, particularly 2.5, the section on Wikipedia is not a memorial site. There are lots and lost of instances of language in the draft that just isn't appropriate for a Wikipedia article. Some examples, but there are many more: "He was considered a folk hero", "Trinity and Duke was his family until his death", "she was the prettiest and smartest girl in North Carolina. The two lovebirds ...".

I'm guessing you have a connection to Arthur and, of course, there's nothing wrong with recording your admiration for his achievements. Many memorial sites exist for this purpose, but I'm afraid it's not Wikipedia's purpose. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 07:20, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not requesting a re-review. just looking for help. i was wondering if anyone would be intrested in helping me out to create the Prestige Economics page. I've made a few edits to make it sound neutral andd obviously still working on the page, but was wondering if someone with a ittle more experience and luck could tell me if i'm on the right track now, maybe? thanks. xo. Sarah312x (talk) 05:07, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah312x - Hi Sarah, as the editor that Declined the draft, some more feedback as to why I did:
  • Sourcing - 1/3 are standard Bloomberg listings; 2 is a website for the institute the CEO founded; 5 is a list of the CEO's books; all the rest, 4 and 6-11 are to the CEO's own books. They just aren't the sources independent of the subject that you need;
  • Notability - as such, you don't have the significant coverage from reliable, third-party sources necessary to demonstrate Notability. You really can't build a claim for Notability on what the subject says about himself;
  • Advertising - to me, the draft comes over as an advert for the CEO and his business, rather than a neutral overview of secondary sources about them;
  • Conflict of interest - I see it's the first article draft you've done. Can I ask whether you have a connection to the company? If you do, that would need to be declared, and the policy and guidance on editing with a conflict followed.

I hope these comments are helpful. KJP1 (talk) 06:59, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for replying. I had a few other references on the page before, but after you declined it i started removing those and putting new ones in, and turns out, i've done even worse, lol. if you can look at the previous version, and let me know why you declined that, be great.

i'm adding sources, once i think the article shows the company's notability, i'll obviously resubmit it. right now i'm just working on it. im trying to make it not sound like an advertisement, but i don't think i'm doing that great. no, not connected to the company at all. i wish though. lol.Sarah312x (talk) 03:50, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

actually i am not getting why my article is declined, Can you please explain me with example Pagename is Pradip Sawant
The draft is Draft:Pradip Sawant. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:22, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Sunnybcn1 - The review specifies why it was declined, which is that it does not establish biographical notability. Not every police officer is notable. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:24, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

I had this article denied as it was too essay like and contained original research. I was wondering if someone could give me specific feedback on what I can improve. I try to present the view of various reserchers and have not presented any of my own opinions.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Why was my Wiki page about Neptune Band swe rejected. I have used an existing approved page that I looked at as an example. What can I do? remove or add something?

Ray Alex

Rayalexs (talk) 17:02, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rayalexs. Draft:Neptune (band Swe) was declined because it fails to show that the band is notable (that it meets Wikipedia's inclusion criteria). Significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources is needed to demonstrate notability. Wikipedia, discogs, and metal-archives.com, being user-generated, are not reliable sources and should not be used as references. That is why they were removed from the draft, as was explained in the associated edit summary. Adding them back ensures the draft will not be accepted, and is a behavior, known as edit warring, that is not tolerated on Wikipedia. The band's website, Facebook page, YouTube channel, and record label are not arms-length sources, so they do nothing to show notability.
You write that you used an "approved" page as an example. There isn't really any such thing. Wikipedia is forever a work in progress. It contains high quality content and low quality content. The existence of articles that do not meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines does not mean they have been in any way "approved". It may simply mean that no one has gotten around to deleting them yet. They are not a good excuse to create more such articles. The essay WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS may help you understand why. If you wish to learn from example articles, be sure to use only Wikipedia's best.
The nature of your editing gives the impression that you have a conflict of interest, and are only here to promote the band. Wikipedia is not for advertising, promotion, or public relations. You have been asked on your talk page to explain your connection to the topic, but without doing so you have continued to edit and submit the draft. You are shooting yourself in the foot. I strongly suggest you stop, and take on the feedback reviewers have been giving you, before you have no feet left. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:55, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change to format of the page while writing to look like a finished page

Avesmartvt (talk) 20:47, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Avesmartvt, first you need to write the content, the draft currently has no actual content at all. Layout and formatting is of little importance at the beginning, just get your text on the page (with references - see Referencing for beginners) the niceties can be added later.
