Hello, Can someone please advise me where I am failing to meet the requirements to successful submit this page. I've tried to adhere to the guidelines but I've been knocked back twice now, pointing out the specific areas/lines where it is incorrect would be really helpful. Draft:Chris_Gibson_(Reseacher)

Nmichgcp (talk) 03:54, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nmichgcp. I'm not sure what your last reviewer was looking for, you would have to ask them for clarification. Some things that won't necessarily prevent acceptance, but need to be fixed:
  • Avoid overusing capital letters, see MOS:CAPS. He's not a "Professor of Human Geography ... and the inaugural Director", he's a professor of human geography and the inaugural director.
  • External links are not allowed within the body of the article, see WP:EL. Global Challenges Program, for example, should not appear in running text. If that page proves the statement (that he's the director) it may be turned into a reference.
  • Place inline citations immediately after punctuation, not before.
  • Section headings should be sentence case.
  • Remove the list of research grants unless there's something to say about them based on independent sources.
  • Don't link his books to the publisher's website unless the full text is available there for free. Instead use {{cite book}} or {{ISBN}} templates to link the ISBN.
  • Remove the list of journal articles. Wikipedia normally lists only an academic's books.
  • State whatever it is that he's notable for in the first or second sentence of the lede, see WP:PROF.
Review the entire draft with Wikipedia:Writing better articles in mind. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:43, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I tried to publish article about DFRobot, however has been declined three times. I would like to know specific information about which reference and phrase I should remove, and where I should improve etc. Thank you for your help.

Christy.kwon (talk) 03:56, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Christy.kwon, so first off we can remove the LinkedIn reference because it adds nothing to show notability and the same with the Kickstarter reference. We don't use Wikipedia as a reference to itself so that one can be cut out. It may not just be about adding references, more may be needed. DrStrauss talk 10:06, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Anihooks (talk) 06:34, 28 June 2017 (UTC) Hello I am a student of IIT Roorkee. I have made my first article about an Indian company named Soulflower, for learning purpose. I had taken a reference from different media coverage, designed the article according to NPOV. But unfortunately it was denied acceptance. Kindly guide me[reply]

Hello @Anihooks:, has Soulflower received significant coverage in major, independent, reliable media sources? DrStrauss talk 09:59, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @DrStrauss:, I read about Soulflower in this article https://news.franchiseindia.com/wellness/Soulflower-launches-Rosehip-oil-for-aging-skin-n14573 and then explored about it in different articles. Some reliable media sources which has covered Soulflower are mentioned here • The Hindu has covered Soulflower in these articles: http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/blink/cover/package-deal/article6221716.ece http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/homegrown-bath-and-body-brands-eye-bigger-pie/article4644139.ece http://www.thehindu.com/life-and-style/fashion/Beauty-without-the-beast-organic-eco-friendly-and-vegan-cosmetics-in-India/article17381697.ece • The Economic Times has covered Soulflower in these articles: http://retail.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/health-and-beauty/cosmetics-and-fragrances/soulflower-eyes-opportunities-in-natural-cosmetics-perfumes/58681326 http://brandequity.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/marketing/cats-and-star-signs-put-the-soul-in-body-care-brand-soulflower/58474506 • Forbes India has covered Soulflower in this article: http://www.forbesindia.com/article/weschool/can-retailers-afford-to-ignore-omnichannel-strategy-in-todays-age/44449/1 • Mint has Covered Soulflower in this article: http://www.livemint.com/Industry/RtzAZg9nEebhNJ1BGX5vbM/Retailers-shut-brickandmortar-stores-go-online-to-offset.html • Business World has covered Soulflower in this article: http://bwdisrupt.businessworld.in/article/Soulflower-Announces-Network-Expansion-To-6000-Local-Stores-Retail-Outlets-Pharmacy-Stores/05-05-2017-117674/ • Point of Purchase magazine January edition

@Anihooks: well, put them in as references! :) DrStrauss talk 21:34, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think DrStrauss is being optimistic here. Many of those reference don't help to establish soulflower oil as notable, as they are based on something written or said by someone who was promoting it. Maproom (talk) 19:16, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. Yes they are many articles about maglev. Please see the search result(https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A0LEVvHZA1RZujUAWucnnIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTEzajVvczlrBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNwYWdpbmF0aW9u?p=maglev+wikipedia&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-001&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&b=11&pz=10&bct=0&pstart=3 as this Wikipedia search page shows it. There is very few info of the Indutrack. One sentence after a few word of the components: General Atomics is developing Inductrack technology in cooperation with multiple research partners. This article gives an in-dept info. and analysis about the reality of building one. And there is no articles about the train for many tasks being levitated by permanent magnet, a newly developed technology. The sixteen pages of the article provides detailed information of how the technology was developed, what were the design considerations, how it was built, operated and how it is compared to existing levitation and propulsion technology. As far as I have checked all the articles of Maglev in the last 20 years , about this new system there are none. To edit any of the articles with the necessary details (about 16 pages) would totally altered the existing articles since non of them have any related topics more than a sentence, let alone the illustrations/pictures.

I respectfully think that 18 years of first hand experience may be worth to have an article of this technology in the Wikipedia. There are many examples in this magnificent lexicon having multiple articles about the same subject giving the readers a wider horizon.

Respectfully KehrerK

@KehrerK: am I right in saying that Indutrack is a similar system to Maglev? DrStrauss talk 10:13, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
