10:56:07, 31 March 2015 review of submission by Paologinari

[edit]

Hello. I am wondering why this page was rejected. When I decided to work on this page, I looked at comparable organisations in the UK, such as the Foreign Policy Centre and the Bruges Group. Both of these pages have fewer references than my page did, and in the case of the Foreign Policy Centre the only reference is to a page on its own website. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what it is about these pages that I can emulate for my own. Thanks a lot.

Please do not follow the example of poor quality articles, I will investigate those topics a bit and might even propose that the articles be deleted. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:24, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 13:32:06, 31 March 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Dcw2003

I need some help with a simple format for citing webpages used in line references. The examples I've seen in published articles seem a bit complex to follow.

Thanks.

@Dcw2003: There are a few simple ways. One is using the RefToolbar, which you can get more information about at Help:Referencing_for_beginners#Using_refToolbar.
Another way is to just put the URL between <ref> and </ref> tags, such as:
<ref>http://www.example.com/article.html</ref>
One you have done that, you can go to https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/, paste in the name of your draft (including the Draft: part), and run the tool. It will help fill out the references automatically, but you will be required to check that it got all the information correct and didn't miss anything. --Ahecht (TALK

[edit]

My article was not approved for publication, and I'd love some help and tips that will help me get my page published.

Tmohabir (talk) 15:20, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It reads like an advertisement:
  • improve lives through the power of smart communications
  • over 600 communications professionals
  • span the social sector
  • best practices insight
  • most effectively utilize
  • strategic overhaul
  • committed to advancing
  • representing a diverse array
  • exclusive online resources
  • wide in scope and meaningful in depth
  • leading voices
You also don't need to list every single person on the board of directors.
And it doesn't have any independent sources, which prevents it meeting Wikipedia:VRS. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 07:00, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Could someone please help me with my articles for creation - June Julian I have made several significant changes, adding more references & images. Dr. Julian has had a major exhibit in Italy in September that was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. I am looking forward to working with you on this article. Thank you, LincolnSpencerLincolnspencer (talk) 18:09, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I can't help with this, as, being but a simple soldier, I don't understand what "art as social practice through community authorship" and "the human narrative" are. The page Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/June Julian is not currently submitted for review, so you should put {{subst:submit}} at the top of it if you feel it is ready for another review. Removing the comments and suggestions made by previous reviewers tends not to help the process. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 06:50, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

21:19:47, 31 March 2015 review of draft by SDscribbler

[edit]

Hello, I am creating a draft of my first article and have a couple of questions. First, how do I create the text box that appears at the upper right of some articles, the ones that contain the organization's address and website info? Also, My list of references looks a little off, not sure why I have 4 blank spots for references on top of where my references appear. Any and all help would be appreciated, if you have any other feedback as well. Thank you!

SDscribbler (talk) 21:19, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@SDscribbler: Your reference tags should go in the article text, not in the references section at the end. When you preview the article, any text between <ref> and </ref> tags will automatically show up in the references section. For example:
The sky is blue.<ref>http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/blue-sky/en/</ref> Water is wet.<ref>http://www.planet-science.com/categories/under-11s/our-world/2012/02/why-is-water-wet.aspx</ref>
As for the text box, that is called an infobox. I placed an empty template on your draft that you can fill out, and you can go to {{Infobox organization}} for more information on what the parameters mean. You don't have to (and probably shouldn't) try to fill out all the fields -- most of them should probably be left blank. --Ahecht (TALK

The text box at the top right is an infobox. It looks like you have an appropriate one in your Draft now.
Have you tried looking at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners? This should help you to cite sources with inline citations. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 06:44, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

21:42:17, 31 March 2015 review of submission by Musicmusiques

[edit]

Hi, Thank you to Roger (Dodger67) who answered why there was a "copyright" problem when I had written the entire article myself. I looked at the link where the websites where there is possible copyright infringement are compared with my article- yes, as Roger says "The "overlaps" consist almost entirely of titles of musical works, names of people and a few standard phrases - thus it's not a copyvio." I am going to resubmit now, but how can I make sure it is not declined again for the same reason? Many thanks!!! Musicmusiques

Musicmusiques (talk) 21:42, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Musicmusiques - the review comment I posted explains the issue, the next reviewer will see it. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 10:21, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
