Hi,

I have submitted an entry on Great British Racing, which is the promotions/marketing arm of the British Horseracing Authority.

This has been rejected but I'm not really sure what I can do to get this approved. Would it help if I got some quotes and removed the 'Aims' section?

What you need is independent coverage - not quotes from themselves, but others writing about them. For example, who but themselves has called Great British Racing a "national resource"?
And yes, an "aims" section usually is a bad idea. We care not what they aim for, we care what they are and what they have done. Huon (talk) 22:21, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Aksiddu, did you read the instructions in the pink box at top? Those give the specific reason for your article being declined. Note also, your draft is also hard to read because you have not formatted it anything like a Wikipedia article. Please observe the code for some existing published articles to see how text is coded in, and use that as your example. For example, Wikipedia does not simply type ALL CAPITAL LETTERS to make a section heading, but instead codes them like this ==Summary== Also at the top of the page, use Template:Infobox person rather than manually typing in facts. But fundamentally, as the pink box says, you need to review our guideline WP:Notability and provide proof for the claims in the article, from serious media or academia sources (not blogs, not Facebook, etc). As per Wikipedia: Campaigns and Elections, "As a compromise between those who would keep all candidate articles and those who would delete all articles on yet-unelected candidates, it would be preferable if articles on elections were written before articles on individual candidates. Only if and when there is enough independent, verifiable information to write a non-stub article on a candidate should one be written."

Except there is not enough independent, verifiable information to write a non-stub article. You cite a grand total of four sources, one of which doesn't even mention Wakefield, another of which writes less than a sentence about her, and a third of which is her own endorsers' website, not quite an independent source on that endorsement. The fourth writes a little more about her, but even so more than half your draft's content is unsourced.
On an unrelated note, your username clearly is promotional, and since it's the name of the campaign it also violates the WP:GROUPNAME part of our username policy. You should take a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest, and if you want to continue editing, you should request a username change immediately or you will be blocked from editing. Because the reviewer thought the amount of sources insufficient, and because he couldn't determine what the article's topic is supposed to be. Why is there a paragraph on luxury hotels in an article that says it's about a cheese dairy? You should find another couple of reliable sources, and it may help to shift the focus from the dairy to the Divanis business empire in general. Some copyediting for grammar also couldn't hurt. I resubmitted the Wiki entry for Arnold J. Sameroff on November 15,2013. I responded to earlier suggestions in order to comply with the site guidelines for entries . 2xprofs, you have fixed the indenting and section issues, but you have not fixed the footnoting issue. Again do not type footnote numbers manually, but use the coding shown at WP:Referencing for beginners. That coding is way cleaner and more reliable since it auto-numbers footnotes so they will always be accurate and in order. 02:53, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Slash and Burn Farming


The three regions the ancient Maya lived in were very different from each other. The southern/central lowlands were covered with tropical rainforest. Rainforests do not have rich soil. This made it harder for the Maya to grow food there.

Maya farmers used a method called slash and burn before they began planting crops. Slash and burn farming was a lot of hard work for Maya farmers. First, the farmer cut down all the trees in the area he wanted to plant crops in. Cutting down the trees was the “slash part” of the slash and burn farming method.


Next, he burned the tree stumps, and the trees he had cut down. The ashes from the fires mixed with the soil. The ashes made the soil rich, or fertile. Fertile means good for growing things.


After this, the farmers planted seeds in the soil and waited for their crops to grow. The crops they grew included maize (corn), squash, beans, chili peppers, and cacao (cocoa), which is used to make chocolate.


Farmers in the highlands used the slash and burn farming method, also. There were forests in the highlands, but they were not tropical rainforests. This is because the highlands were drier than the southern/central lowlands. They were drier because there are not many rivers or swamps in them. The southern/central lowlands have rivers running through them, and many swamps.
