Wikipedia:WikiProject Administrator/Requests for de-adminship (preliminary poll)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Requests for de-adminship is an oft-requested but currently theoretical process to allow the community to remove adminship. Advocates for such a process argue that since the community grants the access to admin tools, the community should also have some process for revoking that access.

Outline

[edit]

RfDA proposals generally consist of the elements:

  • Initiation when some objective criteria is reached (such as requiring X number of uninvolved editors, X number of admins, X number of arbs, or Arbcom as a whole)
  • A period of time in which the community provides feedback by the form of !votes (akin to RFA)
  • Closure by a trusted authority (such as a bureaucrat, arb, or arbcom as a whole)

Safeguards

[edit]

Any RfDA process would need sufficient safeguards against disruption or abuse:

  • Initiating RfDa should be sufficiently difficult so as to prevent frivolous claims, retaliation against admin, unnecessary drama, and SNOWBALL-esque processes.
  • De-adminning should be sufficiently difficult so as to prevent the loss of good admins.

Requesting feedback

[edit]

To foster greater awareness of this issue and to solicit greater participation in the proposal formation process, community feedback is requested. Please discuss on talk and/or participate in the poll. Not that this this is a straw poll, NOT a policy proposal. The outcome will not affect Wikipedia policy, although the results will guide future discussion.

Could you support the creation of an RfDA process?

[edit]
Yes, provided it had truly adequate safeguards.
No, the community should not have such this sort of process, even if it had adequate safeguards.
No, a RfDa with adequate safeguards is not possible.
