WikiProject Assignment 2

Behavioral Ecology, Biology 372, Teacher: Strassmann, TAs: Adu-Oppong, Scott, Sukum

Review of 5 Wikipedia entries

When is it due? Tuesday 10 September 2013 40 Points

What exactly do I turn in? You turn in a Word document that tells us the text of comments on five Wikipedia pages on different animals. First you write and sign the honor code at the top of the page.

In this assignment you will read your chapter in Davies, Krebs, and West. You will get together with your co-workers on the same chapter (in person or by email) and pick a set of animals to work on, butterflies, fishes, or social insects according to your study section. Your DKW chapter will define the kind of conceptual issues you choose; you will want to further specialize within that chapter. Try to do this at this stage, but it is not essential.

Once you have picked your organisms, and questions, find five organism-based entries and evaluate them, as described below. You will also put something on the project page to get comfortable with adding information. It does not have to be too detailed.

Write brief commentaries on 5 entries Look at entries on 5 animals. Each student should do five different animals. Write a paragraph evaluating the entry. Consider how complete the entry is. Note missing categories focusing on behavior of the kind that your chapter covers. Comment on the writing. Look at the Talk, History and Discussion sections and comment on what you see there. Your comments on each entry will be between 200 and 300 words. Remember, you do not need to solve the problems you see, or do any research. The purpose of this assignment is to get you comfortable with looking at and evaluating Wikipedia entries in the area of your specialty
