Wikipedia:Today's featured list proposal/Proposal 2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bottom line of this revised proposal is not how Featured Lists would be selected for the Main Page, but whether or not they should be on the Main Page in the first place.

Proposal

[edit]

This is a proposal to get Featured Lists on the Main Page. Unlike the alternate proposal, available at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/First proposal, this proposal does not ask the community to institute any type of voting or other process. Keeping it as simple as possible, this proposal calls for putting Featured Lists on the Main Page in the order they were promoted. This solution is similar to the process used to select Featured Pictures for the Main Page, and eliminates any complication in the selection process, and also removes the burden of selection from any one individual or group of individuals.

Arguments in favor

[edit]

Some arguments in favor of inclusion on the Main Page include:

  • Quality: Featured Lists exemplify our very best work and features professional standards of writing and presentation. In addition to meeting the requirements for all Wikipedia articles, the lists must meet the attributes noted at Wikipedia:Featured list criteria.
  • Quantity and Variety: There are more than 400 Featured Lists, with incredible variety. I could fire off some examples, but its better to take a look at Wikipedia:Featured lists and see for yourself.
  • Relevance for the Main Page: Currently we have Featured Articles and Featured Pictures on the Main Page. Inclusion of a TFL (Today's Featured List) represents a natural compliment to our other "Featured" standards, and exhibits Wikipedia's best work.

Presentation

[edit]

The presentation of the TFL would likely be aesthetically similar to that of Today's Featured Picture... there would be a relevant image, a description of the list, and a link to the list. A separate discussion would need to be initiated to discuss where and how on the Main Page the TFL would be presented, but that is a discussion for when consensus is achieved in this proposal.
