Tyrone Garland (born 1992) is an American professional basketball player who last played with the Mississauga Power of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). He signed with the Power in early 2015 and left when it folded after the season. Garland initially competed at the collegiate level with the Virginia Tech Hokies, but transferred out of the team during his sophomore season after seeing a lack of playing time. Before his 2012–13 junior season, he joined the La Salle Explorers. He instantly assumed a leading role for the Explorers and lifted them to a second round win at the 2013 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament with a game-winning shot known as the "Southwest Philly Floater." By the end of his college career, Garland was a member of La Salle's most successful basketball class in 22 years. Prior to that, starred for John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he finished third on the all-time Philadelphia Public League (PPL) scoring list in 2010, behind only Maureece Rice and Wilt Chamberlain. - Reasons for nomination: Basketball articles have rarely appeared at TFA, and most readers will be unfamiliar with this player. In spite of this, he has a very interesting career, including his record-breaking stint in high school and his performance at the 2013 NCAA Tournament. This is also my first FA and has the potential to be my first TFA.
