The template is outdated, and no one who has edited it has contributed since 2012. The first entry links to a surname page. Certes (talk) 20:22, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is the final batch of these templates to be deleted. These templates are now unused, having been replaced by regional templates. See Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2020 January 23#NCAA independents football records and Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2020 February 5#College football independents records, and Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2020 April 30#College football independent records for the three prior nominations of related templates. Used in deleted Template:Link language categories. Gonnym (talk) 00:56, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like no-on read the documentation at {{In lang}} before deleting the (horrible) XX-icon templates:
Categories

Transclusions in mainspace articles will add the article to the appropriate subcategory of Category:Articles with non-English-language sources. There are two forms of these subcategories:

Category:Articles with <language name>-language sources (<code>) – for individual languages and for macrolanguages
Category:Articles with <collective name> languages-collective sources (<code>) – for language collectives

where <language name> and <collective name> is the name used in the template's rendering and <code> is the ISO 639 code or IETF language tag.

These categories differ from the categories added by the {{<xx> icon}} templates because not all uses of this template will be related to external links.

All the best: Rich Farmbrough (the apparently calm and reasonable) 16:45, 3 May 2020 (UTC).[reply]
The categories where populated by Template:Link language and its wrappers. They were all deleted per 2 TfDs. The newer template {{In lang}} does not use the previous category names for reasons explained in the template doc. I removed the mention from the doc to the xx-icon templates you copied above as it no longer exists. --Gonnym (talk) 13:23, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
