General advice

[edit]

Answers at the Teahouse are held at a higher standard than required by the WP:CIVIL policy. The Teahouse is specifically aimed at welcoming new editors in a non-bite-y fashion. Even if you think an editor is not here to build an encyclopedia, you should still answer in a civil fashion (or not answer), because other editors are looking at the page.

You should always start by making sure you understand what the question is about. The questions will often omit important information, such as the name of a page, some edits, etc. Looking at the contributions (Special:Contributions) of the person who asked the question is often needed to clarify the question.

My business information rejected

[edit]

Hello, I joined Wikipedia in 2021 and I have been trying to create a company wiki article not an advert, but the two sentences have been termed as articles and my submission has been rejected Kiwumulo (talk) 01:15, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Analysis: Looking through the user contributions reveals that the question is about Draft:INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC ALLIANCE UK LTD. Your answer should include a link to that page.

The user might be mistaken about what constitutes promotional editing. Most likely, they believe that the lack of obvious POV language is sufficient. Your answer should explain that even putting up an article can be considered promotional editing.

Furthermore, many new editors think that fixing promotional language means their article will be accepted. It is important to clearly dispel that misconception: your answer should explain the basics of notability.

If the page has been deleted, even if you cannot access its contents, your answer should explain the technical reason of the deletion (AfD, speedy deletion, abandoned draft etc.). (As of 11:53, 19 October 2022 (UTC) the page is still up, but it will probably be deleted after 6 months without edits.)

Example answer: Kiwumulo Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. I'm afraid that you have a common misunderstanding about what Wikipedia is. It isn't a place to merely document the existence of a company. That's considered promotional here, you don't have to be soliciting customers or selling something. A Wikipedia article about a company must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the company, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company. "Significant coverage" goes beyond merely documenting existence ot the activities ofnthe company, and goes into detail about why the company is significant or influential. [edit]

I have written an entry "Elevenish" which was rejected although I used almost the same wording as Matches Fashion as it was deemed by the reviewer as not "neutral". How come the other page is public?

This is the text on Elevenish page: ELEVENiSH.com is a digital-first community and e-commerce platform for designers and artists to tell their stories and share their creations through a seamless experience.
