What is the maître d's role?
[edit]The maître d' is a rotating volunteer position which may be held by one or a couple of Teahouse hosts at a time. The maître d' acts as a community organizer and a moderator who helps to make sure that all aspects of the Teahouse are running smoothly, and that guests have a good experience. The maître d' is not the boss of Teahouse, but acts as a responsible facilitator for the project.

Tasks
[edit]- Hosts
-
- Welcome new hosts and reminding them about the Host lounge & host expectations.
- Keep your eye out for helpful Wikipedia editors and encourage them to sign up to be a Teahouse host!
- Guests
-
- Monitor guest profiles for any problems with the creation process, template problems, broken or inappropriate images, aggressive language, etc, and clean up as necessary.
- Q&A
-
- Monitor answers on the Q&A board to make sure new editors are being engaged and responses meet the Teahouse expectations.
- Watch questions for inappropriate content and questions that should be removed (i.e. potential socks, troublesome or disruptive questions better off handled else where on wiki).
- Move off-topic questions to the appropriate place, for example:
- If a question is asked on the Teahouse talk page, move it to the Q&A board
- Move unanswered questions at the bottom of the Q&A page up to the top so they'll be noticed
- Move a troublesome question or comment that is better handled off-Teahouse over to the talk page of the Teahouse or the talk page of the editor
- Provide gentle reminders to Teahouse hosts and drop-in participants, on their talk pages, to remind them about expected behavior.
- Remind editors who answer questions to use the Teahouse talkback template.
- General
-
- Monitor Teahouse pages and templates for vandalism or unexplained changes, and seek administrative help if needed for protected templates.
- Monitor monthly metrics to make sure the Teahouse is running smoothly
- Create necessary talk page redirects to either the main Teahouse talk page or the Host Lounge talk page, as new pages get created.
- Maître d'

[edit]Reminder script by Writ Keeper
[edit]This one pops up a reminder to you when you log in if your shift as Maitre d' is coming up (or already here). This one takes some setup and configuration, though. What you need to do is follow this link, change the date and range values to what you want (there are some comments that explain this a bit; it'll preload using my next shift as an example), and save the page. Once you do that, import the script from the location you just saved as you would with any other script. Then, all you have to do is go back in and change the date and range when you have a new shift coming up.
Put importScript("User:<you!>/teahouseReminder.js");
in your common.js page.
