Madame Moustache

[edit]

Madame Moustache Brand new article. It stated as a mention of her in the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/12/21/science/20101221-Moon-14.html). I was surprised that Wikipedia had no mention of her, so I started this page.

Suggestions, please?

Thanks

MM looks like an interesting character. When I run her (E A Dumant) real name through Google, I get your page and the N Y Times page. Does the reference in the NY Times article give anything more, or does it just mention your subject in passing? The DuckDuckGo search engine turned up an article in the publications of the California Historical Society. If you could track this article down, it would likely be a good reference. bodiehistory.com [reliable source?] had a .pdf titled "The Death of Madame Moustache, Bodie's Most Celebrated Inhabitant". Other links turned up under "Madame Moustache" via DuckDuckGo. I would just hope you could dig up another solid reference. (The problem being that she is mentioned on several sites, but query whether those sites are considered "reliable" enough to use as references.) Tkotc (talk) 00:21, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikipedians

I would like to publish this article on Branco Weiss. There is a German version available already, and this article is based on that German version. What do you think? Thanks for your feedback in advance!

New Article, looking for feedback. Thanks!

Article about Duwayne Brooks, heavily associated with the murder of Stephen Lawrence in the UK and now a Councillor for the Liberal Democrats, potentially running for mayor of london in 2012. His name is mentioned on the pages for both of the previously mentioned articles (Stephen Lawrence/Mayor 2012) and I intend to link his name to this article. Thanks

Bdean90 (talk) 22:13, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am fairly new here myself, please keep that in mind when you read my comment. At first read, it appears the only thing "notable" about Duwayne Brooks was his friendship with a crime victim. Answer this question to yourself; could write about him with no mention of this friend and make the article interesting? What would you write then? Try to make us interested in Brooks himself first. Then after writing the article that way, then add the mention of the crime victim. For the (very) few articles I have started, I tried to have 1/2 dozen different things to say about the person before I started the article. Also, it helps me to be able to link to other already-existing wikipedia articles in that it helps me understand what I should write (for starting the article). Let me repeat, when considering my comments keep in mind that I am fairly new at this myself. Keep at it and enjoy the process! AlanDewey (talk) 16:59, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi- This is my first article and I'd like to make sure it's been done properly for wikipedia. All feedback is much appreciated. Thank you!

Notability (see, Wikipedia:Notability (people)) is the first hurdle you have to clear. Review that issue and see what else you can bring in to strengthen that claim.
Here are some other suggestions that came to mind. 1. Wikilink the reference to the Pushcart Prize. 2. Generally book titles are in italics. 3. Do you have another reference for her nomination for the prize? Use of the link to her own site for this isn't ideal. 4. Use the templates on Wikipedia:Citation templates wherever possible. For the books, see if you can find an ISBN number to plug into the template. The Anthologies stuff would likewise benefit from use of the appropriate template. 5. Use an infobox (see, Template:Infobox person). In connection with that, see if you can find a photo. 6. You use the Workman bookseller site as a reference. As far as I can tell you are only using it to show authorship info regarding Tomato Girl. Since you have another non-commercial reference providing the same information, I suggest you remove the Workman reference and use another one.Tkotc (talk) 01:17, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First article I wrote. Is this ok to go live? Thx!

Update: moved it live to OpenNI, still needs to be reviewed though.

Reason for the article is I picked up the term while reading an article about a new "Kinect for PC" and OpenNI was mentioned as giving it some open source cred, but could not find any article about it so wrote one. Not a specialist and not related to any company mentioned.

Needs work, but it's fine as a starter article. --Airborne84 (talk) 02:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
