Delay of account creation

[edit]

Hello Administrators,

I tried creating an account with the name: ogidiolu_tobi four days ago, but the account wasn't created. So, I thought I had used already existing name. Today, I tried to register for a new account with the following details: Tobi Ajayi, but I'm yet to receive a confirmation.

Please, what's the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 197.220.169.132 (talk) 09:21, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:ogidiolu_tobi and User:Tobi Ajayi have not been created. Special:Log/newusers shows new accounts are created every minute so the software works. Are you trying to create the account here at https://wiki.riteme.site? There are thousands of other wikis and we only share accounts with some of them. What exactly happens when you try to use Special:CreateAccount? PrimeHunter (talk) 09:48, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Transferring belongings from one country to another

[edit]

1) How many luggages could you carry to from country to country? What would be the weight of each? Is there a list that could be viewed?

2) What is the most cost effective way to transfer items from one country to another?

You can (generally) take as much luggage or other items from country to country as you want. The only restrictions would usually be when flying or using another carrier that has limited space. All items would have to be allowed in the destination country though (not on any banned list). Because of the hassle of taking large amounts personally, most use a professional company that offers land freight (train/truck) or sea freight options (quarter, half or full container). Cost would depend on 'how much are you taking' 'from where' 'to where' and 'by what method'. Nanonic (talk) 18:10, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It depends heavily on WHAT is being transported. Many items have import taxes. An anecdote: Norway has a rather high (over 10%) import tax on denim jeans. When I went there to lecture many years ago, I packed three pairs of jeans in my suitcase. That caused customs to pull me aside and ask if I was bringing them for personal use or sale. 209.149.113.5 (talk) 18:34, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
116.58 IP - Please note that the plural of luggage is luggage. One item (example: a suitcase) is luggage. Two or more items is still luggage. The correct way in English to deal with this would have been to ask "How much luggage could you carry from country to country?" Akld guy (talk) 06:15, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(What Akld actually means is that "luggage" is a mass noun and does not have a plural.) --76.71.5.114 (talk) 06:34, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Errr, yes, that's what I was trying to say. Well put. Akld guy (talk) 05:09, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can transport as much baggage as you want, subject to the law of the country you are going to, and the weight limits of the transport you are using. The most cost effective depends on which countries are involved. We used to live in Congo - we took as much as we could by air, and air-freighted some things when we could not buy them locally (because sending by boat was too unreliable). One of my daughters moved from the UK to Australia - they packed their things in small containers which were then sent by ship. My other daughter is moving to France - she will hire a van and take it through the Channel Tunnel. Wymspen (talk) 09:08, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am confuised as to why the OP thinks there is a limit. There is no limit unless the countries have laws, and you may have to pay some duties for certain types of products (like for alcohol). When I moved to Hong Kong, I had an entire container following me. For long distance transfer, shipping is the cheapest way.--Lgriot (talk) 14:13, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
