[edit]Tire Shelf Life
[edit]Tires have a manufacture date on the side. If these tires are sold to me as new, when they are 1 year old as dated. Should I expect the emoliants and waxes to be less from sitting on a shelf unmounted? Thanks, Lee --68.12.38.27 01:23, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I wouldn't think so, unless they are exposed to UV light, then there would be some change, but nowhere near as much as if it had been in use for a year. StuRat 01:28, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
So the enviroment would contribute the the decomposition to the stored tires, would you agree on that? Thank you, --68.12.38.27 01:39, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely. StuRat 01:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think they would eventually tire of being on the shelf (As we all do) 8-(--Light current 02:03, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's a better life than being squished by a fourth of a car! --frothT C 19:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Dream Question 2: The Second
[edit]Thanks for the help on that last issue (Nov. 8..that one about werewolves)...very enlightening...I'm hoping you can help me out with another problem. I was having an entirely different dream and everything was fine until my sister told me that it was really important that I break her legs. I was reluctant at first, but she was very insistent...so she sat down on a table and raised her legs out in front of her, and one at a time I bent them behind her head until I heard an awful snap, all the while having her scream at me about how I really, really needed to break her legs. It was rather unsettling. I know that dreams wherein you lose teeth or go to the dentist are meant to be signs of upcoming financial difficulty, but does anyone in this absurd pool of (vice pool of absurd) knowledge know what all these broken leg dreams are supposed to mean? Yeah, I know, probably nothing, but still... 24.250.33.247 02:23, 11 November 2006 (UTC)!
- I think the best person to interpret someone's dreams is the dreamer him/herself. No-one else has such knowledge of the situation and recent events that may have caused such dreams. I don't believe in universal interpretations of dream symbols, either (for example, I've heard a version where losing a tooth is the dream manifestation of masturbation). Maybe you've had some quarrels with her recently? On the other hand, she explicitly wanted her legs to be broken... –Mysid☎ 14:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Massaging muscle
[edit]Does a self-hand-massage or massage with one of those vibrating heads massagers help with muscle soreness or muscle recovery after an intense exercise? Jamesino 04:21, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Massage should help with the muscle soreness, not only through the immediate pain relief, but also by encouraging more blood flow to the region. Sportsmedicine.about.com recommends massage after exercise. The actual therapeutic benefits should be the same whether you massage the muscle or someone else does, although subjectively it always seems to feel better when someone else does the work. Cell phone cleaning
[edit]Are there any easy or proven methods of cleaning a cell phone made of a plastic or rubber surface. I just want to get the marks off of it and several methods i have tried have failed. Help would be a plus.--Biggie 04:32, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Have you tried a paper towel soaked with window cleaner ? StuRat 05:19, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Hmm no ill see about that.--Biggie 05:58, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- A miniscule amount of washup liquid in water. Get cloth and soak in water. Wring out until just damp. Turn off phone. Wipe phone. Let dry thouroughly before turning on phone.--Light current 16:51, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Could you give some idea as to what caused the stain; oil , some kind of gel. As that might give some idea as to the best kind of remover.--AMX 19:51, 11 November 2006 (UTC)AMX
World Record

QUIZ ME?
[edit]WHAT FRUIT DID HAWAIIAN WOMEN NOT USED TO EAT? what is a famous bulding found between 20° 51' ?
20° 51'? North, south, east or west? And you only gave one value (20 degrees and 51 minutes). You need two values if you want to ask a question about something between things. --WikiSlasher 10:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Let me guess... there's a new riddle list making the rounds, right? See this question from two days ago. SWAdair 10:45, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
or.........
[edit]or find a place between 20 and 51 sumthing.its a famous bulding thats all i know?it cud be between 20 and 51 street.
- It could be anything. The Empire State Building is between 33rd and 34th streets, in midtown Manhattan. –Mysid☎ 12:00, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Are you sure you don't mean 21 and 50 instead of 20 and 51? -THB 12:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

PS3
[edit]I had heard of the price difference from country to country but was shocked to find it was sellinh for £270 in Japan, and will be close to £450 in the UK. Would there be any (logistical or running) problems inherant in buying one online from Japan and shipping it over to England? MHDIV Englishnerd 11:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I would imagine that with such a huge price difference, there is either a normal barrier, like a difference in electricity or television compatability, or else a created one. -THB 12:06, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Also note that Sony is really cracking down on companies that are offering to sell Japanese PS3s to Europeans. --Maxamegalon2000 18:14, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- So much for capitalism being fair. Philc TECI 18:11, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- The reason for the price difference is that most things are more expensive in the UK. See Rip-Off Britain. --Richardrj talk email 20:50, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I thought video games also contained region lockouts? So a Japanese PS3 would be hard to buy games for in the UK.

Limescale
[edit]Hi there Can you tell me if limescale is harmful if digested, especially by a 3 month old baby? I use a steam steriliser & obviously a kettle to make up his bottles & am findin loads of limescale residue Thank you
- Limescale occurs naturally in the water and it not dangerous itself, though there is obviously a risk of choking if the baby swallows a large piece. I suggest you clean the kettle with a proprietary descaling solution, and/or get a kettle that has an integral filter.--Shantavira 13:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- You can also use vinegar to clean a kettle, coffeemaker, or shower head of hard water deposits. -THB 22:48, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
short stories
[edit]Is there any short stories from Bangladesh? (it has to come with the English translation).
- There are. See Virtual Bangladesh and the article on Bengali literature. The only two Bengali authors I read, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and Rabindranath Tagore, were not Bangladeshi though. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge will pitch in here. ---Sluzzelin 15:42, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

USA in WWI
[edit]Why did United States join the Allied Powers in WWI? Was it because of the sinking of the lusitania? Or were there other factors involved? Jamesino 19:09, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I suggest reading Woodrow Wilson's speech on it X [Mac Davis] (DESK|How's my driving?) 20:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- On a point of information please note that the Lusitania was sunk in May 1915, and did not lead to American entry into the Great War. This came in April 1917, during the second phase of Germany's unrestricted U-Boat campaign. Clio the Muse 23:49, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- U.S. entry into World War I is a very complicated affair — there are a lot of things to take into consideration, both domestic and foreign. There is some discussion at World_War_I#Entry_of_the_United_States but IMO you'd need to consult a secondary source if you wanted a good glimpse of the complexity of the period. The short answer is "a lot of things, and it is hard to plausibly pin it on any one of them individually." --24.147.86.187 01:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- One of the things, as the above cite mentions, was the Zimmermann Telegram. (Want more detail on this? Go to the library and read Barbara Tuchman's book of the same title.) --Anonymous, 11:23 UTC, November 12.
- If you have 8 hours to spare, I suggest watching Why We Fight. You can download all of it for free at the Internet Archive, here. Jon513 12:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Help me find somethigng?

How do you call people that seeks information for a 3rd-party?
[edit]Information researcher, business researcher, industrial researcher, researcher?Mr.K. 20:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- What kind of information? Private investigator, Genealogist? -THB 22:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Librarian? Rmhermen 23:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Though how you mean the word "seek" here is a bit unclear, technically Rmhermen is correct -- but if the four examples are an indication, I think the word "seek" may not be what you really mean. The basic difference between a librarian and these other things is who uses the information, and to what extent. Most "researchers", including those THB and Anchoress refer to, gather, distill and present information in some way. Librarians, on the other hand, give access to and sometimes retrieve pre-packaged information for a patron, but leave it up to the patron to read and subsequently use that information. Jfarber 18:20, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Librarian? Rmhermen 23:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Broker, or specifically Information broker. Anchoress 23:00, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Finalizing
[edit]I have recorded some video from a camcorder on to a DVD - R, and need to finalize it; finalize is pretty abysmal, anyone know how one goes about finalizing DVDs? MHDIV Englishnerd 21:19, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- It's a standard funtion on burning software. Just start up such software and go through the moves of burning something on the dvd, except that you don't actually select anythingto be burned, but do select the 'finalise' option. DirkvdM 07:40, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you're using CDBurnerXP Pro, you can finalise an 'open' disk directly. Open the Disk Information dialog (under Tools, I think), and click on "Close Disk". Other burning software may have a similar function, check their help files. — QuantumEleven 14:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Cats
[edit]Can cats or other animals be allergic to humans? Reywas92Talk 22:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Probably, but since house cats are always around people, they would always have symptoms, so it wouldn't be obvious that people are the problem. Also, some product the people are wearing, like perfume, is more likely to be the problem than the people themselves. StuRat 02:01, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've heard of it but can't verify it. DurovaCharge! 02:05, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sure they are, as they show allergies to pretty much everything else. As StuRat points out, though, the allergens are more likely to be to be byproducts of human environments than humans themselves. Infact these people make a living out of testing animal allergies, "offering the complete allergy service including serological testing for food (IgE & IgG) and environmental (IgE) allergies in cats, dogs and horses". They recount the story of Hector, an 18 month old Bichon Frise:
- Hector had been suffering from hair loss, weight loss and diarrhoea. He was constantly scratching and often woke the family at night. His blood sample showed an allergy to food but also an allergy to house dust mites. Dealing with environmental allergies, like house dust mites or pollen, is a little bit trickier however there are solutions. [2]

Behind the scenes of Survivor
[edit]What are some websites with behing the scenes of Survivor? This being How it is made, what goes on after one is voted off, and things not in the show. I'm not looking for spoilers or deleted scenes. Thanks! Reywas92Talk 23:00, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe you can find something on Survivor Insider or in this article in Monitor On Psychology. Apart from WP's huge articles on Survivor (TV series) and List of Survivor statistics and trivia, of course. ---Sluzzelin 17:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Nostalgia Collestion
[edit]I have asked this before [3] [4], but I am sure someone has an answer. I am looking for an audio or video file containing famous quotes or scenes from history, movies, and/or television. For example an audio file with "No, I am your father," "To infinity and beyond," and "E.T. phone home." I just want the most famous scenes from the most famous movies and TV shows all in one place. Or perhaps small clips of famous music. If you aren't sure, please ask, as I really need to find one of these. Thanks!! Reywas92Talk 23:07, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Here, I'll help put you out of our misery. The History Channel has a bunch of famous political, artistic, and scientific clips on their site, and you can find it (and many others) at this google search for 'famous audio clips'. It isn't everything you asked for, but it's a start. You have to look thru the whole list, there are sites with clips from famous songs, movies, etc. Anchoress 01:24, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
