A Lebanese authority

[edit]
  1. Does Lebanon's film censorship/classification/whatever authority have a formal full name in Arabic and French, respectively?
  2. Does it even have a website?

I do not know about a website. The authority is apparently within the Directorate General of Cultural Affairs, an other related branch, perhaps better funded is the Directorate General of Antiquities ( see Ministry of Culture (Lebanon), also dafbeirut.org) --Askedonty (talk) 09:16, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Askedonty: I thought film censorship in Lebanon was under the scope of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities (through General Security) and Ministry of Economy and Trade? [1] [2] JSH-alive/talk/cont/mail 10:18, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not illogically there could be some influence from the Ministry of Economy and Trade in some cases, like there is with the ongoing current situation ( they are forbidding theatres to play the Barbie movie , which cannot be without some impact on international trade ). In this case initially the General Security was called for enforcement on a request from the Ministry of Culture [3] <edited>(as is explained in your first link as well, I'm sorry I missed it at first) --Askedonty (talk) 11:29, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But yes, you're right regarding the role of "SG" (General Security) and censure censorship, according to that same last link [4] "it traditionally censures censors or allows films and plays through its censure committee comité de censure", this not without ministerial supervision punctually it appears. It's not a committee intended specifically for interacting with the movie industry, obviously it's the Direction Générale des Affaires Culturelles that would be concerned with classification if they ever thought they had reasons not to rely on external databases for that business. --Askedonty (talk) 12:03, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Askedonty -- I think French censure should be translated into English as "censorship" here, not English "censure" (a "false friend"). AnonMoos (talk) 17:57, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
AnonMoos - Corrected! My personal censor all the time forbidding me to have it clear around the term sensor - not the end of the story. --Askedonty (talk) 06:54, 18 August 2023 (UTC) [reply]
Ah, yeah. I think it's common that European languages have a similar word as censure with the sense of censorship. I guess the concept was often borrowed from the French. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 12:57, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But ultimately from the Roman censor. Alansplodge (talk) 22:01, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
