Marvel suicide bomb cult

Maybe forty years ago, Marvel comics had a storyline involving suicide bombings arranged by a cult leader called "the Light". We saw a bomber saying to himself, "I'll live if I die – that's what he told me."

I can't remember what title this was in. Cloak and Dagger? Howard the Duck? Daredevil? —Tamfang (talk) 06:54, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Several sources seem to hint that a group (not one leader) called "The Light" was a storyline of the DC Comics Secret Society of Super Villains. See Kobra (DC Comics) where it is mentioned. Not sure if that's it. --Jayron32 05:17, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

This page at the Marvel Wiki notes that a storyline of Cloak and Dagger has Dagger's father becoming a cult leader with the name "Lord of Light". That's actually a Marvel Comic. Since you already noted that as a possibility, that might give you something to pursue. --Jayron32 05:21, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

How sure are you that it was Marvel? I'm reasonably well-versed in Marvel comics of that time period and this is not ringing a bell for me at all. There were some SF/Horror related titles where something like this might have been allowed, but it really doesn't strike me as the kind of tone Marvel permitted in its hero titles back then. A bomb that blew up the world? Sure. But suicide bombers blowing up, say, buildings? That would be a tough sell. I've no clue what DC was allowing. Matt Deres (talk) 20:27, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

In those days, I read only Marvel and undergrounds, and it wasn't an underground. But I won't rule out that I'm misremembering something a bit later from, say, First Comics. – The targets may have been empty buildings. —Tamfang (talk) 23:48, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
