February 27[edit]

comedy show[edit]

When I was in the army in stationed in germany in the 70's there was a show that was aired on the AFRT (American Forces TV. And Raido)network. It came out of LA. The format was a talkshow. The name of the show was the last names of the two hosts (Loman & Barkley???).One show they were talking to an author of a WWII book when they started to light cigarettes. When they offered to light the authors cigarette from there match he said you never light 3 on a match because during the war if a match was lit that long a sniper could shoot you. while he is saying that the camera pulls back and you see a german sniper peer over the top of the back drop and shoot the auther. the hosts then go on to there next guest with the (dead) author laying on the table like nothing had happened. as you can see I'm not shure about the name. it may have beed a local show and not televised nationaly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.188.136.79 (talk) 04:13, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like the kind of thing you would see on Fernwood 2 Night. --Jayron32 04:20, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to have a look at Wikipedia's articles on Al Lohman and Roger Barkley. ReverendWayne (talk) 02:30, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

London location (Mr. Bean intro)[edit]

Cheers! Does somebody recognize this street in London?? In the background is St. Pauls Cathedral, to the right side some "obelisk" (?). Thanks for help. GEEZERnil nisi bene 06:57, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can't help you except that I'm sure it's a montage as St Pauls today is surrounded by modern office buildings.--Shantavira|feed me 14:03, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It reminds me of Waterloo Place, which forms the southern end of Regent Street, perhaps at the junction with Pall Mall or Carlton House Terrace. I can't find an exact match, but this is the area I'm thinking of. As Shantavira says, it's been tampered with - I'm suggesting that they've removed the Duke of York Column and replaced it with the dome of St Paul's which is about 3 miles away. Alansplodge (talk) 15:47, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cannot be. There is no view on St Pauls. I tried with StreetView the Fleet St today, but the buildings are nod the same and there is no obelisk. It is a Studio or something like this. -jkb- (talk) 16:37, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What we're saying is that they have digitally altered the film image to make it appear that St Paul's can be seen from this street, when in fact it can't be. I worked in the City of London for 25 years and know that the linked image is not a real scene. The street exists somewhere, but you won't be able to see St Paul's at the end of it. Alansplodge (talk) 19:27, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The entire thing could be a studio set. The cathedral looks a bit like a matte painting, as in Mary Poppins where St Paul's would conveniently be in the background. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:56, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's probably going to be rather expensive to construct such an elaborate set just for a two second shot. I suggest that the street is real and the dome is an addition. The traditional method was to paint the additional scenery onto a sheet of glass, and film through the remaining clear portions. I would imagine it's easier to use CGI these days, but I'm not an expert. I have failed miserably to find any information on the internet. Alansplodge (talk) 10:51, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Matte painting, old technology. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:12, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
D'oh! Alansplodge (talk) 16:33, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the answers. The are lists of Bean-episode-locations on the web, however this cobblestone street is unfortunately not listed. Would have bean so nice... GEEZERnil nisi bene 15:53, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Who fronts the Wiltshire Farm Foods ad[edit]

Hi. What is the name of the guy who advertises Wiltshire Farm Foods in the UK? The commercial I'm thinking of features him visiting some of the firm's customers. I know he's someone famous, but it's driving me nuts trying to remember who it is. He also voices ads for Actimel. Thanks in advance. 81.151.121.17 (talk) 10:12, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You mean ads like this one? That's Ronnie Corbett. Here's one of his Actimel ads. - Cucumber Mike (talk) 10:29, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is Ben Affleck the youngest to win the prize he won?[edit]

Thank. I'm talking about the Oscars. Kotjap (talk) 18:03, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Which Oscar? He's won at least two: as producer of Argo and as writer for Good Will Hunting. Which of those Oscars are you asking if he was the youngest to win? --Jayron32 18:14, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh sorry, I mean for the two. Both. Kotjap (talk) 18:17, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to this article, he is indeed the youngest winner for the Original Screenplay award. However, Julia Phillips was (almost a decade) younger when she won Best Picture for The Sting. Regards, Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 19:01, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Kotjap (talk) 19:10, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
