Automatic internet connection

[edit]

I use Windows 7 Home Basic. Right now, if I have to connect to the internet, I network icon on my taskbar, choose my connection and click on 'connect', or I can alternately create a shortcut on the desktop and double-click it to connect. I have a small program which wakes my laptop up from hibernation, and I'm trying to figure out a way I can connect to the internet automatically after the laptop wakes up from hibernate mode. The program has an option which lets me run programs after wake-up, but the shortcut to the internet connection is not recognised as a valid program shortcut. I was thinking I might be successful if I created a batch file that runs the shortcut, which connects to the internet, and have the wake-up software run the batch file instead. How can I go about doing this? 117.194.225.55 (talk) 17:40, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is there not a setting in your network settings to do this? What type of connection do you have? Mine (and nearly all computers I've used in the last decade, including library patrons' laptops that they bring in to connect to wifi) automatically detects, never having to click an icon or anything.
