Wikipedia:Portal peer review/War/archive1
Appearance
I've recently added auto-rotating content (featured article, featured picture, selected anniversaries) to the portal. Now I'm looking for any advice on further improvements, both in content and in layout or design, that I could make. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! —Kirill Lokshin 20:43, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
*Shouldn't this be taken to Featured portal candidates? «LordViD» 23:40, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- It's customary to run through a peer review before a featured article or list candidacy; are portals that different? —Kirill Lokshin 23:43, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm very sorry, I actually thought I was on WP:FAC. Again, very very sorry. «LordViD» 02:58, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, no problem ;-) —Kirill Lokshin 03:02, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I thought I might as well say something to make up for my blunder, so here goes. I'm on 800x600, and the words in the first two columns (War and Military History) overlap with the sections below them. It looks really messy. I suppose you're on 1024x768, but I think a lot of users are on 800x600. «LordViD» 03:06, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay. I've removed the two-column layout of the intro; does that fix it, or is there still a problem? —Kirill Lokshin 03:19, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Not really, it's still the same, but if I'm the only one affected then don't bother. «LordViD» 13:35, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

- Hm... I don't know the requirements for the portals, but IMHO intro looks really scarry. There are 3 big & long boxes, no pics... Really not attractive. Also, you might think of putting something on the left to the category box to fill in the space. I can't think of something now. Renata3 20:30, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'll see what I can do. —Kirill Lokshin 20:34, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I just checked Portal:London (on its way to get featured) and I think you can gather quite a few ideas there. Like what is your portal for? Editors or readers? If readers then create some sort of overview of the topic - list of major wars/war topics maybe? If editors then spend more time on what needs to be fixed and where are good sources (but you have wikiproject for that, don't you?). Renata3 20:38, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ideas! —Kirill Lokshin 20:51, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I've added some things; if you have any other ideas, I'd be happy to hear them :-) —Kirill Lokshin 21:29, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I like it :) Even tough the intro is not as ellegant as it could be. Good luck and peace :) Renata3 00:32, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- BTW, you have another featured pic: Image:Passchendaele_aerial_view.jpg (and me as pacifist like it ;)) Renata3 06:14, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- It's scheduled for May ;-) —Kirill Lokshin 06:19, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
