Wikipedia:New administrator mentorship

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Administrators have the technical ability to do a number of things that ordinary users can’t do. Administrators are granted access to technical tools that permit them to protect pages, delete pages and block users. Whilst some administrator skills can be learnt prior to a successful request for adminship, many administrators have found that they learnt more once they were actively using these administrative tools.

New administrator mentorship is a program to connect new administrators with experienced sysops, and to provide support to administrators carrying out activities that are new to them. Each administrator who uses the program will have different objectives, but they may include the following:

  • A resource person to turn to when making administrative decisions in a new area (e.g., assessing consensus in complex AfD discussions)
  • Advice in situations that the new administrator may not have encountered previously (e.g., determining whether certain information is a BLP violation that needs immediate action).
  • A resource person to assist an administrator who wishes to move into new areas and may have questions about practices and policy implementation (e.g., complex page merges).
  • A mentor to look through their logs and provide feedback on their administrative actions.

Any administrator that wishes to help mentor less experienced sysops can list their name here. A brief overview of the admin areas you work in should be given too.

Requests for mentorship

[edit]

Any new administrator may request mentorship here. Please give a brief outline of your administrator interests, and areas which you hope to work on so you can be linked with the most appropriate mentor. To make a request, please do following the hidden template below.
