In celebration of Women's History Month, the Penn State University Libraries are hosting a virtual Wikipedia editathon focusing on Native American women activists. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- participants can drop in at any time during the event. We will provide suggestions of articles to edit and references to use. First-time Wikipedia editors are welcome. Experienced Wikipedia editors will be on hand to answer your questions.
A week earlier on Tuesday, March 22 from 10:35 to 11:50 a.m., professors Julie Reed and Cathleen Cahill and Libraries Support employee Lily Murray will provide a training on Zoom for editathon participants. The training will cover best practices for writing about Indigenous people and reading and using sources, as well as the basics of Wikipedia editing. Instructions for joining the training will be sent to editathon registrants in advance of the training.
The Penn State University Libraries team organizing this event consists of Racine Amos, Lauren Cooper, Ana Enriquez, Jane Ingold, Lily Murray, Christina Riehman-Murphy, and Ruth Kitchin Tillman.

B-class articles
[edit]For an article in this class, a few aspects of content and style need to be addressed. Expert knowledge may be needed. The inclusion of supporting materials should be considered if practical, and the article checked for general compliance with the Manual of Style and related style guidelines.

[edit]Resources for Research
[edit]Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published sources. Read Wikipedia's reliable sources policy to learn more.
Be aware of the possibility of bias in any resource, including scholarly materials and existing Wikipedia articles. Read with a critical eye. What do you know about the author? What is their affiliation with this information? Does the resource use demeaning terms? Use information when it is reliable, but do not include bias in your own writing.

Articles with Template:Orphan
[edit]In the Wikipedia glossary, an orphan is defined as "an article with no links from other pages in the main article namespace". These pages can still be found by searching Wikipedia, but it is preferable that they can also be reachable by links from related pages; it is therefore helpful to add links from other suitable pages with similar and/or related information. De-orphaning articles is an important aspect of building the web. This is a really great, simple way for new editors to contribute to Wikipedia! Here are instructions for de-orphaning articles.
