Do you love jazz, blues, funk and anything in between? Are you frustrated by the gender bias on Wikipedia? Or maybe you love Linked Data? Join us for the Women of Jazz Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon!
Event information
[edit]Join us for this edit-a-thon centered on musicians who are women and play jazz or any related style. Hosted by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, members of Linked Jazz (a research team from the Pratt Institute School of Information and Library Science will give you a crash course in Wikipedia and help you fill in the gaps of Wikipedia's coverage of musicians who are women. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary. Just bring your passion and we'll help you do the rest!

- A laptop or other similar device
- Your NYPL library card. If you do not already have one, you can sign up here: Apply for a Library Card (choose the option "I Want to Pick Up My Card in Person"). This will allow you to request materials from the stacks during the event.
- A digital camera. This will allow you to capture archival materials in the third floor reading room during the event.
Informal gathering to follow in Damrosch Park, just outside the library.

- Don't forget to check out the Music Division's extensive clipping file -- approximately 90,000 file folders on various people (most of which is not listed in the online catalog). (The Dance and Theatre Divisions also have very extensive clipping files.) Some cross-over figures may be found in the clipping files of the Theatre and Dance Divisions. Altogether, the research library has about half-a-million clipping folders on individuals, organizations, venues, and sundry topics.
