Many scholars and policy makers have noted that women have historically been underrepresented in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and maths. This marginalization is also evident on Wikipedia. Articles on Irish women in STEM are particularly deficient. You can help! Join us at our Women in STEM edit-a-thon, hosted by WITS on 4 June to learn how to write and improve articles on Wikipedia. We can do it! Wikimedia Ireland Community are running a workshop on Wikipedia editing on 4th June from 4-8pm in the Science Gallery.

Participants are welcome to drop in, or stay for the four hours, experienced Wikipedia editors will be on hand to get you started with your first few edits or helping you improve your skills. Previous events have seen the publication of articles of women that were previously unrepresented like Matilda Cullen Knowles, Alice Perry and Maude Delap. Rebecca O'Neill will be lead trainer.

All were welcome, no editing experience is necessary and the event is free.

How to Prepare

[edit]
  1. CREATE A WIKIPEDIA ACCOUNT (if you don't already have one)

Please set up an account before the event if at all possible. Very few details are needed: a Username, password, and we recommend giving your email, if only to be reminded of your password when you forget it. The short Wikipedia:Tutorial/Registration explains why this is a good idea.

If you like, you can also learn a little about editing ahead of time here: w:en:Wikipedia:Tutorial, or see Getting started on Wikipedia for more information

To participate you will need to bring along a laptop or tablet, WIFI will be provided.
