Charles M. Vest
As part of Women's History Month, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Program in Women's and Gender Studies invites members of the MIT community to gather together on March 18th to improve and create Wikipedia entries related to the history of women in the STEM fields. We especially encourage additions that highlight the accomplishments of notable women (or those identifying as female) who have made important contributions to gender equity in STEM research areas. We also encourage a focus on articles relating to gender and technology, including reproductive technology, cosmetic technology, transgender surgery, and the medicalization of the body.

This edit-a-thon is being held in honor of former MIT president Charles M. Vest (1941-2013), who supported a groundbreaking study on the experiences of women faculty in the STEM fields at MIT. The event is organized and sponsored by the Women's and Gender Studies program at MIT, and allies.

Suggested Topics

[edit]

The following is a sampling of suggested articles to create or add upon. However, feel free to come up with your own ideas! In addition to the suggestions below, editors may consider cleaning up articles on more well-known women STEMmers, such as Rosalind Franklin, Marie Curie, Jane Goodall, Grace Hopper, Elizabeth Blackwell, Emmy Noether or Ada Lovelace herself. Helpful updates could be as simple as: Making sure reference links are still appropriate and functional; Adding new inline citations/references; Adding a photo; Adding an infobox; Adding data to more fields in an existing infobox; Creating headings; Adding categories; etc.
