Discussion

Okay, I just found out on Wikipedia:Meetup that the meeting place was Golden Grove. I do not know who set that location, but it is in good proximity to my residence. If there are other people interested that are not from this area, maybe Adelaide CBD would be a better meeting point?

If interested, please leave a note on the discussion page. Avochelm 14:30, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

According to Category:Wikipedians in South Australia, there are 28 of us. How does the CBD sound? Alphax τεχ 08:28, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Did it ever happen? I think not since I never heard anything and because Alphax didn't seem to take it seriously on Avochelm's talk page. What would we hope to achieve by an Adelaide meetup? — Donama 08:26, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, I don't know. With the quicking of pace to establish Wikimedia Australia, we could use such a meet-up to see how we could contribute. --cj | talk 08:45, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
So you think it could be a good idea? There are 6 regulars in Adelaide: cj, Scott Davis, Michael, Donama, Alphax and myself.Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 05:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea. I don't know that it will necessarily be a huge step towards establishing Wikimedia Australia, but it could be a significant step to achieving some kind of structured collaboration between us. I know from personal experience of trying to collaborate online that being able to meet in person and conduct that kind of realtime discussion is a huge motivator too. What do you think?

Also, I think we have more than 6 regulars too. I recognise at least 5 more usernames in the SA category just from their edits. ? — Donama 06:02, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

OK, I'll post at WP:AWNB then. Also saw Softgrow, Engimatical, Timeshift?, OK, maybe ten.Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 06:04, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I'd be very happy to go and meet some fellow wikipedians! I do hope the location is either in or near the CBD though (and that the more direct location is a restaurant). michael talk 06:59, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Sounds like a good idea and I hope I dont sap any enthusiasm out of it but i'll pass. If there is any sort of discussion at the meet about various improvements to articles or the like, i'll be happy to help out. Timeshift 10:51, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Wow, looks like there is quite a bit of interest now. I don't feel that I am involved enough with Wikipedia to organise such an event. If somebody out there wants to take the trouble of posting a venue and a date (with a fair amount of notice), that would be good I suppose. --Avochelm 06:51, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't get to Adelaide all that often (I live near Naracoorte and visit Melbourne more than Adelaide), but would attend if I could. Cheers, CWC(talk) 07:36, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I suggest that we start quantifying this... time would be another important consideration. Most Uni students will be pretty busy until July or thereabouts (myself included) - suggestions are welcome! Alphax τεχ 10:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I'd be happy to meet and chat, evening or weekend, city or north. I agree that getting to know each other would be nice. I'm yet to understand the point of a Wikimedia Foundation Australia. Delaying until July would be fine too (but I finished at Uni a few years ago now). --Scott Davis Talk 13:15, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I won't be free of Uni until July, but there's a chance I'll be in Stockholm around that time.--cj | talk 08:25, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

You can probably count me in too, depending that there is going to be some kind of actual reason behind this gathering. Can someone please ellaborate for me what this will be? I dont have exams through June like most other Uni students, but I am going away in July, so I wont be able to attend it if its then--Anklepants 09:31, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I am interested, timing flexible, place prefer central. Paul foord 12:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Maybe we could coax Angela into coming along?--cj | talk 13:42, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Long travel for a coffee! - Peripitus (Talk) 07:17, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Does she get funded to go to all of these?Blnguyen | rant-line 01:28, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I might as well come along.. If it is Adelaide we could use the meetup location for all my Bookcrossing Meetups. It is the Fasta Pasta place at 131 Pirie Street. Just a suggestion though. But I don't know if it can hold more than 15 people for a meeting. :\ I will look into it unless another location comes up. --Z3nith 06:46, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, I could always use the lunchroom at the Adelaide University Physics Department, although if anything untoward happens, I might have some explaining to do...Blnguyen | rant-line 06:36, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Why not just some ordinary, but somewhat snooty and impressive, restaurant? michael talk 06:43, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Hmm Well can it be outdoors if it is in the day time? we could always go to the Botanic Garderns or somthing... -Idea Block- --Z3nith 11:22, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I live in Pirie, but if i'm down on a weekend there's only a slight chance I'd be able to go...... get back to you on it. ---[Reploidof20xx]- [talk] 10:36, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
