Wikipedia:Material concerning living persons in non-article space

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The primary purpose and main reason for existence of the policy Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons (BLP) is to protect the Wikipedia against legal liability or public embarrassment, or both. (A secondary reason is to protect subject from harm even in cases where Wikipedia is not exposed, but this is subsidiary to our mission.)

It is not appropriate to apply Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons to material in non-article space situations where any reasonable person would be expected to conclude that the exposure of the Wikipedia to liability or embarrassment is vanishingly remote.

It is particularly and expressly forbidden to attempt to apply Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons to material in non-article space in a manner tending to stifle or censor normal scholarly intercollegial communications among editors engaged in research or other activities appropriate to maintaining the Wikipedia.
