  • Delete, but only because the black bar covering his eyes reduces the quality of the photo. It may be graphic, but it's a pretty accurate depiction of vomiting and Wikipedia is not censored. Kafziel Talk 17:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Wikipedia is not censored and if this image were being used in an article, there would be no problem whatsoever in keeping it. But any unused explicit image needs to be removed because of its potential for vandalism. Wikipedia isn't really in the business of hosting unused images anyway. If it is useful somewhere, just not right here right now, we move it to Commons. If it is not useful anywhere, we kill it. --BigDT 03:15, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded by Rikurzhen (notify | contribs). The image has obvious NPoV issues, has been created "based on Lynn (2006) values" with no link to the source. It is only linked to by a talk page[1], and only there as a discussion over its usefulness and validity. Some farcical aquatic ceremonies have a more neutral point of view on race. — Fosnez 12:35, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only reason it was unlinked from the article was that some anonymous vandal replaced it with a picture of John Howard. The book Race Differences in Intelligence is the source of the figures. Of course it's totally bogus, because it is a crackpot theory, but nonetheless it accurately illustrates a popular crackpot theory. (note by the way, it's talking about the IQ of say Australian Aborigines, a point the user who added a rant on the image page itself has failed to notice) Morwen - Talk 12:44, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, but looking at it in another way. Did this person have permission to use the data in a copyrighted book to make a free map? An analogy would be me making a physical representation of the song I just bought off iTunes and start giving it away. Fosnez 13:33, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Factual data can't be copyrighted (at least in the US). See http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Feist_Publications_v._Rural_Telephone_Service . If the map image was copied from the book, then there would be a problem. As it stands now I don't think the copyright issue is relevant. 72.48.75.214 16:49, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright issues aside, the data is what it is. No statistic of anything close to global scope is going to be perfect. So long as the data it pertains to is a) derived from publicly available information b) relevant to the article it's included in c) not distracting from the central point of the portion of the article in which it resides, It should be allowed
Delete Fails WP:V. Data of this type is almost never verifiable as each survey will have its own results. I highly doubt the average IQ score in Austrailia (a first-world country) is borderline retarded. --NMChico24 09:24, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • The image most certainly passes WP:V, since it comes from an ascribed source. I'm having difficulty coming to a "Keep" conclusion, because it reeks of something, but failing WP:V ain't it. WP:RS - maybe. WilyD 17:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • The source is reviewed in scholarly journals (e.g. [2] - "Is this book the final word on race differences in intelligence? Of course not. But Richard Lynn is a major player, and it is good to have his extensive work on this topic together in one place. Future workers who address these matters under this or any other label will find that Lynn has done a lot of spadework for them. And they will also find that there is plenty to ponder over within these pages.") so WP:RS seems to be satisfied. --W. D. Hamilton 04:28, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but rename, file name should mention Lynn since he's controversial. Obviously there are no copyright issues with using just this data. However it is plagarism if you don't say where it came from, which is another reason to metion Lynn in the title. JeffBurdges 12:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Of course Lyon should be mentioned in the caption every time this file is used too! The current talk page link has an unacceptable caption since it does not say that Lynn is the source. JeffBurdges 12:53, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just checked one country for accuracy (that they're actually using Lynn's numbers as claimed). Lynn's own website says that Botswana has an average IQ of 72, not 60 as the map claims [3].
So, not only is he controversial, the person that made the map screwed up the IQ for one country, how many more are wrong even by Lynn's 'standards'?
(I just checked a second one, Australia. Lynn lists it as 98 average [4], the map lists them as drool-bucket 60 IQ types) That's two wrong out of two and another ~160 to check.
This image needs to go immediately. Someone can replace it with an accurate portrayal of Lynns' numbers in the future and label it clearly as based on Lynn's data.
-- That Guy, From That Show! 13:27, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Strong keep - Rename, prefix "Lynn RDI" - Comments here are confusing numbers from two separate books by Lynn. The 2002 IQ and the Wealth of Nations with the 2006 Race differences in intelligence. Lynn gives individual countries scores in IQ and the Wealth of Nations but in Race differences in intelligence only scores for 10 different groups are generated. See the specific articles, which have been heavily redacted lately (so see the history) for a fuller description of each book. The map closely but not too closely for copyright purposes mirrors a map from the book Race differences in intelligence. --W. D. Hamilton 17:21, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - This is obviously racist garbage. The only thing that's missing are the neo-nazi rants about mud-people and White Power!. I guess if you label it as "controversial, shallow, scientifically unsubstantiated malarky" then it's fine. Otherwise this just puts Wikipedia in a very bad light as an encyclopedia open to corruption and manipulation.
  • Keep if correctly drawn or delete if not. The data are not copyrighted, this is not OR but a graphical representation of Lynn's data, and the image is useful in the article on the book these data are from, Race Differences in Intelligence. Whether or not these data are of any scientific value is not relevant here. However, if the image turns out to be actually wrong in that it does not reflect the data it's supposedly based on, as claimed above, delete as original errors, I guess. Sandstein 21:29, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep The data in Richard Lynn's book that the map is based on have negligible statistical errors; the potential sources of systematic biases are discussed in the book. The data have been collected using a well-established and thoroughly documented technique, which makes the results of the study verifiable. In other words, this is science, not an opinion or a hoax. It is not appropriate to censor, suppress, or use vulgar language to discount the results of a scientific study. In science, the proper way to verify the validity of suspicious results is by repeating the study using the same technique while trying to gain a better understanding and control of systematic errors; anyone with adequate academic training is welcome to do so and publish his findings in journal or book format.
Wdhamilton, that was not me! I replaced the tag that was removed by User:Ramdrake without reason. User:SuganthinifromJaffna put the AfD tag in in the first place. User:SuganthinifromJaffna also put one on Race and intelligence (the main article) I cautioned that user about calling for deletion of pages that had failed to be deleted in the past on their talk page. I'm just trying to get these articles more balanced, I'm not on a crusade to have them all removed. User:SuganthinifromJaffna is new, so I thought it would be best if he/she could see how the process worked, for better or worse rather than having requests removed without a clear explanation. • Keep. It is relevant to the topic. Badenoch 17:16, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep It accurately reflects the data. This is not a vote about if the data is "right", but if this image is useful in accurately illustrating the data. Most of the delete votes are not based on any objection to the image, but personal attacks on Lynn and his research methods. Detruncate 00:19, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep because it is verifiable data. All research is biased somehow, so it is only right to publish the information, and especially since this is information readily available to public. Deleting this would be censorship! Schroedi

  • Keep That it is not suitable for an article is not the issue. There are many images on user pages that are similar and so you should edit an article that has it but leave it in user pages. As far as I know it is not used in any article right now.--Lucas 17:11, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also note WP:OR policy:

Pictures have enjoyed a broad exception from this policy, in that Wikipedia editors are encouraged to take photographs or draw pictures or diagrams and upload them, releasing them under the GFDL or another free license, to illustrate articles. This is welcomed because images generally do not propose unpublished ideas or arguments, the core reason behind the NOR policy. Also, because of copyright law in a number of countries and its relationship to the work of building a free encyclopedia, there are relatively few publicly available images we can take and use. Wikipedia editors' pictures fill a needed role.

Uploaded by Pratheepps (notify | contribs). Pratheepps has uploaded a large number of excellent photos, but many of them had watermarks on them promoting his website, which is a violation of the image use policy. I spent days fixing all the best and most useful ones to remove the watermarks, and all that remain are images that are either heavily watermarked, not used in articles, of unknown importance, or simply not needed. I don't have the time or resources to fix them. The uploader would rather have them deleted than spend time fixing them. I offered WikiProject India a chance to fix any pics they found useful, but had no takers. This might have been able to be speedied, since the uploader requested deletion here and here, but I was unable to adequately explain the process to him and this just seemed easier. — Kafziel Talk 16:02, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
