Grunners
[edit]Hi, not a new user, having used the site for research for the last year, and editing the last few months.
Worked/ing on a few major projects, including updating articles on British canals, as well as creating pages on Family Guy, my hometown and my previous school amongst others.
Am a Law & Politics student, and so have added to pages on both British and inter-governmental European politics.
Also add to and tidy up pages on which I have some knowledge if I ever come across anything that looks a bit sparse.
Feel free to get in touch if you have an article/task you'd like help with! Grunners 15:13, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit]I've been an h2g2 researcher for some time but haven't written as much as I'd like. At first I wondered whether Wikipedia was really any different but I can now see that it is very complimentary. I'm looking forward to getting involved.
I believe this type collaborative venture is probably the greatest benefit of the internet. I'm very pleased to see that it actually works! It re-affirms my faith in people to see them so simply and easily working together for the common good.
I have various interests including motorcycles, motorsports, popular and classical music and, judging by my growing fascination with this site, just about anything else.
To pay the bills I design and develop web applications. I live in England. I'm 38 and have a wonderful partner and an equally wonderful two-year-old son.

[edit]I'm a sixteen year old kid that likes what happening here, so I decided to join. I also joined Wikibooks - you all should come over and help out in your areas of expertise.
I've used the site for research and such in teh past, but hadn't really submitted - just a few minor edits anonymously. But now I'm hoping to write some brilliant prose. ;) Whosyourjudas 03:38, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit]22 year old who lives in Boston, MA and Bonita Beach, FL. I am currently attending Northeastern University in Boston, MA and finishing up a degree in MIS & Marketing. I discovered Wikipedia during a tangent search on Altavista of places around here in southwest FL recently effected by Hurricane Charley. I ended up jumping from link to link until I was on the page for Boca Raton, FL and noticed that a few links did not have pages. Since I was born there and spent many years there, I decided to add a few entries.

[edit]Hi, I'm a new Wikipedia junkie from the Delaware area. I'm a biochemist, so most of my contributions will probably be in that general area.
I believe I first heard about Wikipedia on NPR, but I may be wrong about that...
I've already tried my hand with a writeup on Neurokinin 1, so your comments there would be welcome

[edit]Hi,
I'm a student at UIUC, where I officially do stuff with Mathematics and Cognitive Science, plus just about anything else unofficially (notably Latin-American, Balkan and Arabic music). Just got started a few days ago. I don't have any grand goals, really. But whenever I'm surprised to find something in red I like to make it go blue. For example I just put up Inti-Illimani. I might do Warda Al-Jazairia or Mahmoud Ahmed next. Johnkarp 22:02, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)

geek84
[edit]Hello Wikipedians,
My name is Mike D. Live in Escondido, CA (San Diego county). Moved here in 1984 (part of the rationale for geek84. The other is 2 * 42 [the answer to everything] = 84. I certainly don't have the answer to everything, but after reading the entire Wiki*.*, I'll be a lot closer. :-) )
Moving to the San Diego area (from Long Island, NY) was one of the best things my wife and I have ever done.
I work as an embedded computer programmer for a medical device company. Specialties: USB (Universal Serial Bus), device drivers.
Interests: computers, photography, astronomy, animal welfare, travel, politics.
BSEE, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. UCSD is one of my favorite places here. (Maybe I'll get an advanced degree in something before I croak.)

[edit]Hello to all Wikipedians.
My name is Ben, I'm currently an undergraduate college student. I've been reading posts on Wikipedia for a few months now, and I've been interested in contributing, so, I guess now's the best time.
My interests are very eclectic. I'm a computer science major, but I have plenty of other interests as well. I look forward to contributing to Wikipedia, even if only in the form of small changes (though I eventually hope to write new pages as well.)
Have a good day everyone.

Elias
[edit]Hi my name is Elias, and I've just made my mark on Wiki. I completely redid the page on PricewaterhouseCoopers and created one on MediaSoc, as a means of avoiding my financial accounting tutorial homework. I am a history and politics buff, and I have specialist knowledge in accounting and finance. I also have a deep interest in publishing, and closely follow developments in the content-based industries. I have a good generalist knowledge about the internet and technology and I really should go to bed now.

Wordie
[edit]Oh jeez this is addictive. I just meant to get the pattern language article into shape enough that other people could sink their teeth in, but I think I've edited it 30 times now!! I'm interested in practically everything, but mostly I'm an editor -- I like to clarify, reorganize, shorten. I have a compulsive need to fix apostrophe violations :) (hey, are smilies even allowed around here?)
See you out in the big wide wiki... Wordie 16:50, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hopefully Wikipedia will have more article about these fields...

[edit]Hallo Everybody!
Good to share feelings. I have read some of the comments and its quite interesting to be a part of this group! I am an Electrical engineer from Germany. I am currently doing Master's and would like to share the knowledge with you all. I am working on implementing Boundary Element Method in Finite Integration Technique. I am sure that not many have heard much about these topics. Anyway, if someone does these before can help me in this regard. But I will be posting any updates I come across to benefit the users. Have a good time! take care
Hi!!!
[edit]Looking forward to blogging some real stuff. Well, you may disagree that this is "blogging" but that's the point.
- A contribution is going to be read.
- Therefore it should be interesting and non-trivial.

[edit]Hello everyone. Check out my Free SEO Toolssite. I am a consultant in london.on.ca and do webpage design, SEO and hardware and software system needs analysis for small to medium firms. I enjoy doing research on the internet and like to write also. I found wikipedia googling one night and thought it would be neat to do some writing over here. I do some coldfusion programing also. Here is my Car Dealer Inventory Listing Web Application that I put together. Well see you all soon in the pages.
hi there
[edit]Mostly active in it.wiki but i keep going back and forth. Sometimes i'm dragged by an interlinks impulse which force me wandering through various wikis dropping links all along. Are some guidelines to accomplish this work at best? If you need help translating something from it.wiki let me know. Ciao --Balubino 23:11, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hi everyone!
[edit]I've already gotten addicted to wikipedia. I have some basic knowledge of Japanese, so I have been translating a little bit of the Japanese web pages about Japan. I'm a graduate student in computer science so I have been trying to contribute a bit in that area as well.

[edit]I was just introduced to Wikipedia a few days ago, and I'm amazed by it and glad to have the opportunity to be a part of this project.
A bit about myself: I'm currently a first-year Computer Engineering student at Olin College in Needham, Massachusetts. I enjoy Magic: The Gathering, playing video games, and reading books and webcomics. For more info on me, check out my user page or my Blog (Livejournal), here.
So, greetings to everybody, and I hope I can make a valuable contribution to this community.

[edit]I've been visiting Wikipedia for a few months, and really feel this is a revolutionary project. I've just started contributing in the last few days, mostly on topics related to my region. I wouldn't consider myself an "expert" in any area, but I like to help out where I can.

[edit]Hi. :) I've spent quite a lot of time browsing Wikipedia, and (having finally decided to make an account) it's nice to be able to become a real member of the community here. I'm currently a student in Auckland, New Zealand studying the physical sciences and mathematics. As such, you'll probably find me working on scientific and logical pages, or the occasional music page if I know enough about it. It's good to be here. Aydee 08:31, 2004 Sep 16 (UTC)

[edit]I shouldn't be here, as my current duties hardly leave me time to breathe, but as Wikipedia is currently my favourite information source on the Internet, I couldn't keep my fingers off some corrections, and so it started. Also, as a professional corrector/editor, I have my share of professional cretinism (yes, I'm one of those who write red commas on wallpapers). By education, I'm most likely to stick my nose in philosophy, assyriology or linguistics, but most of my friends would expect to see me in sf/fantasy or role-playing games articles. Sometimes, being Estonian feels like a compulsive hobby, too. Well, let's see where it all will lead... --Oop 00:15, Sep 17, 2004 (UTC)

[edit]My name is Paul and I live in the UK, near Bournemouth. I have a degree in Philosophy from Cambridge University and I have been running my own business developing computer systems for the last 25 years. I like highboard diving, skiing, reading, music, dancing and being with fun people. I'm keen on the Open Source model for software, and it looks great the way the same principles seem to work in the Wikipedia project. I'm facinated by the synthesis which has been created in the resolution of some pretty acrimonious disputes. PaulDC 10:40, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Curtsurly
[edit]I like the governing system that is in place here to handle disputes and to facilitate the functionality of this enterprise. I am excited about participating in such a revolutionary community. Personally, I liken it to starting a fire. One person comes along and recognize only the fire's potential for destruction. Another individual sees what great warmth it might provide, if treated with care. Yet, another envisions a controlled fire destroying unnecessary debris in order for healthy crops to be planted in their stead. Yet another comes with the conviction that the fire is sacred, cleansing, life-affirming. I suppose it is obvious that both the creative and destructive potential for fire must be considered equally before one employs it for any purpose. Wikipedia can be viewed with precisely the same principle firmly in mind. This site affords quite an opportunity for learning the workings of NPOV, objective writing, and editing out bias when it skews the article in favour of a particular POV. It is important that the same standards are applied to every article. It is also necessary to be diligent and seek out those articles that need to be brought up to a certain level of efficacy.

Wilz
[edit]Hello. This place is intimidating. I desperate want to help, but just thinking about formats and the like intimidates me like crazy. How does anyone get familiar enough with the whole place to be able to contribute sufficiently? I feel that my best contribution would be in terms of formatting since I'm quick with the keyboard, and know HTML, and am a PHP programmer myself.
I am also a past editor-in-chief and publisher of my university's student newsletter. But so many of the topics which I'm interested in here are already covered in very good detail.
I'd love to help, but I feel that I have to pick up so many more skills before I can begin. I would very much love some guidance in this place.

Failed predictions on the end of the world
[edit]I just wanted to say I just got done viewing this website's timeline of unfulfilled prophecies and I'll tell you that I used to belong to a "religious cult" in the 70's and early 80's in Tucson, Arizona and they had set a date for June 28, 1981. You can read more on this by going to the last week of June 1981 in the Arizona Daily Star (Tucson local newspaper)and under "220 failed dates for the end of the world! Date Setters!" on the internet. It is also under either the date setters diary or the doomsday list on the internet, but if not type in Bill Maupin and the Lighthouse Tract Foundation as keywords on the internet and it will come up.
They were heavily into the "end-times" and the one-world government theory belief. Also, They had other strange doctrines of devils, but mainly their work was getting ready to meet the Lord in the air and for the end of the world in 1981. Also, I would thank you if you could post this on the encyclopedia's list. It would expose the group to any people that may run into them in Tucson, for they are still a group. Thank you for reading this, your time, and if you could post this on your doomsday list. Sincerely, Todd D.
