Rainbow Pacifist

[edit]

A very good afternoon. I write this having already posted to the village pump. Sorry for the breach of protocol - I am getting a hang of things finally. :) And thanks to the two people who responded to my post.

Professionally, I am an academic with research interests in economic and environmental history; environmental risks; and technology assessment. As a citizen, I am interested in the free flow of ideas and knowledge and contributing to literacy, learning and sustainable forms of living. As a person, I love classical music and jazz; photography; and various sports.

My goal in Wikipedia is to contribute to the environmental studies entries. The current listings have relevant material listed under 'ecology' and 'geography.' I'd like in a modest way to help augment these offerings.

I look forward to being a productive member of this community. I hope this is what I was meant to write in this box. :) rainbow pacifist 01:14, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've been creating articles and editing for about three months now, so I figure it's high time I introduce myself.

I am in my 40's, the divorced mother of an adult daughter, and live in Oregon. Although I hold university degrees in Broadcast Communication and International Studies, over the past 20 years, I've worked mostly in various sales, marketing and administrative support positions within the television, media, fashion and marketing industries. The very first article I ever contributed to was the one for receptionist because I felt that it needed a more balanced outlook than what was previously written.

It is my goal to help Wikipedia with creating and maintaining helpful and credible articles. When writing articles here at Wikipedia, I tend to focus on creating or improving articles that deal with office and administrative support as well as in the areas of literature, writers, history, entertainment and media.

Amongst my hobbies and interests I include: reading, creative writing (I have my own literary webzine and blog), gardening, travel to historic points of interest, arts and culture and attending afternoon tea parties. I am also a member of the local garden club, a lay reader at my church, and a member of the Red Hat Society.

I am a Computer Science Student in India, and my age is 17 years. My particular areas of interest are environment (especially Global Warming), reading science-fiction (or otherwise) novels, designing websites and graphics out of interest and for professional purposes, listening to music (I love Linkin Park). I hope my time at Wikipedia will be pleasant and that most of my articles will pass without being voted under the Deletion Cat. The co-operation from other Wikipediaians in all the matters dealt by me will be appreciated.

Hi - as my userpage says I've been using WP a long time, so nobody could actually call me a newbie. Just thought I'd introduce myself as myself, though, rather than as a string of numbers. I'm particularly interested in science, the Government of the United Kingdom and get random interests(!). I also do routine jobs such as syntax repairs and vandalism-watching, dull as they are. Greetings. I am a high school student a year away from advancing to higher education. Chief interests are in software development and politics. I've made only a few minor edits here and there, and I've been simply browsing Wikipedia for a while. This place is excellent for doing a brain-dump after a long day. As a student, I doubt I know any more than most about any particular subject, but I am a mathematics person (Calculus at 14) and a bit of a history buff.

An ulterior motive, however, is simply ensuring that every instance of 'FireballX301' that surfaces is, in fact, me. An exercise in narcissism? Or preservation of identity. I'm not sure which.

After my Freshman year, I plan on transferring to Warren Wilson College. I want to be an environmental scientist or farmer or something of the sort. I have a very, very open mind.

My main interests are vegetarianism and animal rights, but I also enjoy philosophy and socialogy a great deal. Sexual Psychology is also a topic I have great interest in. Hello all,

Since I discovered Wikipedia, I've been astounded by the amount of information available. When I finally discovered it was a community in which users could edit and add thier own articles, it all made sense. This place is awesome! I plan on spending a lot of time here.

I've started out by adding an article about a place I like to visit quite frequently called Cathedral Gorge State Park. I plan to remain very active. Great to be here!

I found Wikipedia whilst working on a few school projects. I don't know if I'll come across anything that needs changing, but I figure that it can't hurt to have a name instead of a nearly meaningless string of numbers attached if I edit or talk at all.

Mia Goff

[edit]

Hello there,

My name is Mia and I live and garden in Ottawa, Canada. I work in the IT department of a university, with a focus on communications and planning.

Today was my first visit to Wikipedia, having found the link on the site of one of this week’s winners of a Webby Award Rtm86. I was awed by the scope of the project, the amount of information, and the opportunity to make a contribution.

Being a perfectionist by nature, I have recently been trying to tame that side of myself. Somewhere on the web, I read a Chinese proverb that said: ‘Be not afraid of growing slowly … be afraid of standing still'.

I really like the collaborative nature of Wikipedia, and I think that I will learn a lot about taming my perfectionism and (dare I say) grow to be a better team player.

In return, I hope to contribute images of plants in my zone 4 garden, as well as information in the area of perennial gardening. I'm also happy to do any required tidying/clean-up/editing on pages related to gardening. Off to Bootcamp I go ... errr ... after work that is.

Hi everyone

I'm currently a first year medical student in the US. I have a BS in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics so I'd like to contribute more details to the biochemistry articles. Also, I noticed wikipedia has a fair amount of information lacking in certain areas of medicine so I will write articles there as well.

I'd like to contribute a fairly decent amount of stuff so that readers who are looking into medical information will get what they need. I welcome comments and edits :) Please let me know if you find anything interesting about my articles or perhaps if there is a certain subject I can possibly help expand upon.

I have many interests including gaming, martial arts, computers, medicine, history etc.

Hope that I will make a positive impression here :)

Hello! I found Wikipedia quite by accident several weeks ago. I was researching via Google. I was so impressed, especially when I read that anyone could contribute their knowledge on any subject.

I am a retired, registered Medical Technologist, having worked some 30 years in the field as a generalist in the areas of chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology, serology, etc. These days, I find myself helping out at my husband's CPA practice when called upon to do so. I also stay pretty busy just trying to keep up with 4 teenaged sons.

When I'm not helping out at the office, you'll find me digging in the dirt. I've loved gardening ever since I was a young child, and my father taught me the "how to's" of growing something from a seed. Taking and passing the Master Gardener course several years ago did nothing but fuel my passion for gardening even more. To be more specific, I love heirlooms, especially heirloom tomatoes. I have over 200 different varieties of heirloom tomatoes in my seed collection. I am an admitted tomato freak. You'll even find me growing tomatoes during the winter months in my greenhouse. I prefer to gardening organically when growing all of my vegetable crops, as well as fruit and citrus trees, here in my temperate climate.

Early Christianity is another interest of mine, and I've done considerable research on the subject, studying the traditions and writings of the early Christians. I do hope to be able to contribute something to Wikipedia.Pete2 23:22, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Let's see now, History: Dad was 4th generation Irish, Moms is Japanese. Grew up in Rockford, Illinois until age 9, then lived in Santa Clara, California until graduation. Got BS in Japanese from San Francisco State University in 97. Currently an interpreter for Honda Motor Co. in Japan. Interests: Devoted Chicago Cubs, Bulls & Bears fan. Play hoops regularly, occasionally hit the links as well. Read anything that piques my interest. Musical tastes span a broad range with a preference for Hip Hop, cuz I'm all about keepin' it real (whatever that means). Children: Jeffrey (6) Colin (2) Shon (due in October) Philosophy: I try to be like the lotus when at all possible. You will often see the Buddha sitting or standing on a lotus blossom. The way I interpret this, if you notice, the lotus is the flower of a root that grows not underground, but in water. Shallow, murky, swamp-like water at that. From this swamp, the lotus rises above and blooms on the surface, not put off by the murky muddy darkness that is the swamp below. This is not to say that I consider myself above the swamp, for I am indeed very much of it. I am saying, it is just my own philosophy to try to be like that lotus, immune to hate and deceit, exploitation and inhumanity, because the swamp is the evil laden world we live in, and the lotus is the human spirit. I'm a little Buddhist, a little Rasta, and unfortunately very cynical. This is one of the reasons I don't like popular news, because I am so disturbed by human tragedy, and it upsets my sensitivity, so I prefer to just leave that stuff alone. And thats me in a nutshell.

[edit]

Hi!

New to the Wikipedia.

They said to tell a little about myself... so here goes nothing. :D

I'm nineteen years old and I live in Reykjavik, Iceland. I currently live in the basement of my parents' house. The basement has an exceptionally low ceiling, and the house has a front door that makes more noise than your average grenade.

NOT something you'd want to share when you're trying to... entice women.

Or men for that matter... I wouldn't wanna be picked up by a chick who suddenly blurts out "oh, and by the way, don't worry about any noise I make when we're f****n', the front door wakes up my parents anyway... oh, and you'd better watch your head in my room, and not try to move too much"

My main interests are art(practically anything you can call art), drumming, tattoos, culture, the fairer of sexes... and a bunch of other stuff. I like drawing, I like doin' some graffiti now and then, I like taking photographs... not really models or anything, just still life. I play the guitar, the piano and most percussion instruments you can dream of. Oh, and I'm very good at faking that I play the violin:D

I watch too much TV and exercise too little. Well... I actually exercise four, five times a week... but that ain't my point.

My favourite bands... well, I have a notepad file in my computer where I put the names of bands and artists which have produced at least one song that I like... last time I checked the number was looming dangerously close to 300... but I like 70's punk and bluesrock, 80's rock and hair-metal. Swingin' jazz and fusion jazz and some of the newer indie/emo bands, as well as some metal, nu-metal and college-punkrock groups.

Movies... well, I have another notepad file... it's about half the length of the list of bands... but that's still too many to put in a forum post. Unless the point of the post is to make a list of movies/bands/whatever you really like.

This is getting pretty long.

I have a few tattoos, and I'm looking to get more... If my dream comes true (well, the dream I have about tattoos) then in the end I'll have around 19 of'em. *yay* I haven't got any piercings, because, for instance, if I had a ring in my eyebrow and a couple of studs in my ears... that's the first thing someone would go for in a fight, he'd rip them right out, and that'd hurt, and get blood in my eyes wich irritates and distracts. But I do dig chicks with piercings... not nipple piercings or (in the words of Sandra Bullocks in Jay Leno the other week) piercings in the area of their "p" [otherwise known as downstairs]. But ears, navels, eyebrows and tongues are nice.

I enjoy a lot of sports activities. Soccer, football (or as we say in my country rubbi, [pronounced roobby :P] it's closer to the english rugby than american football), basketball, handball, running, but especially I like martial arts. Oh, and weight lifting. I've done some karate, some taekwondo, some wu shu, some boxing, some aikido, some kendo, some jiu jitsu, some MMA, and some Muay thai in my time, and I found them all very interesting and all that, but in the end the drums won.

Drums to me are actually the best thing about life, and THE reason I'm still alive (that and my "friends" keep saying they'll miss me, which I don't think they will, but I give them the benefit of the doubt). Although I must say that drumming(and my band)always seem just a "little" less important whenever I snatch myself a steady girlfriend. Which is why I've been trying to combine the two recently.

It's going horribly. I'm not sure wether she want's to be in the band, and I'm not sure she knows I like her. I'm pretty sure that IF she want's to be in the band, she wouldn't wanna date me, and if she'd date me, she wouldn't wanna be in the band.

This is actually becoming an essay.

I should totally try to write something more!!!

But that's what I've been trying to do since paragraph four... and I just ran out of ideas, cuz a biography is out of the question, and I ain't gonna put too much detail on my personal life on the internet.

But I have a blog, though,

http://morose2.blogdrive.com

It hasn't been updated since January 21st, but I'm getting to it... if you read it, I suggest starting at the beginning and reading the whole thing... scroll to the bottom for an english version of every entry.

And thus I bid you adieu

Good morning! I'm an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, majoring in Biology, and I graduate next month. I'm from Glen Rock, NJ, a mostly characterless town near New York.

I don't have any special "areas of knowledge", aside from biology and the sciences in general, and I know lots of random trivia in subjects like linguistics, phonetics, etymologies, geography, Judaism, and... ummm... computers?

Eloquence, articulacy, organization, and clarity are the main things that I have to offer Wikipedia. I pride myself in my ability to communicate things well. I see Wikipedia as a means of getting practice for later in life (not that have a future picked out, but I hope I'll be doing something that requires me to be articulate).

I'm taking a course right now called "The Little Red Schoolhouse: Academic and Professional Writing" which teaches reader-oriented writing. I've always been a fan of effective communication (if even at the expense of esthetic value), but I became so much more enthused about it since I've been taking this course. They teach you things about language structure and function that seem so obvious but aren't. I really feel like I've learned the psychology of how people take in information through language (although I obviously haven't put this into action very much yet).

DEDALUS 52 - Introducing myself

[edit]

DEDALUS 52 - Introducing myself I stumbled into Wikipedia searching the WEB for technical information. Got immediately fascinated by the project, whatever its merit could be: building up a knowledge base as people used to do, chatting and exchanging information around the campsite. My real name is Stefano Selleri, country of origin: Italia (let me use the correct - native - spelling). Graduated in chemistry some twenty-five years ago after a classic studies oriented high school (how many greek translations folks!), I made my career in the field of semiconductor and microelectronics technology. Married, with a son and a daughter, I cultivate many odd interests: photography, sailboating, military aircraft history and technology (1940 - 1960), chinese calligraphy (I spent some time in China owing a to a professional assignment). Now I plan to attend Wikipedia on a regular basis: why? why not? messing around in the WEB is more interesting than staring at a TV set, anyway...

I'm looking forward to contributing to the already vast pool of data and I hope that I can provide some useful additional information.

Hi. After being long time user of Wikipedia I finally decided to start contributing. I intend to add some pictures taken during my trips to make Wikipedia more visually appealing.

I'm interested in computer science and economics - currently, I study towards PhD. in computer science and BSc. in economics. I also like science fiction (especially Czech one).

I am fairly new to Wikipedia. I work in the banking industry doing Unix System Administration. I live near Detroit, Michigan. My interests include arcade games, computers and music. My plans are to contribute when I can, and add a little here and there. Nice project here, by the way!

Howdy--

Found Wikipedia when I was trying to research the history of network addressing conventions. Of course, then Wikipedia let me find information on haiku, spaceflight, katana, zinfandel, and even cowhands. I'm a former (deep breath) technical writer/editor, aerospace systems engineer, project manager, and Mac consultant. These days I'm focusing on my lifelong passion, educating horses and riders, with an emphasis on the traditional methods of Old California horsemanship. In reality, I have way too many hobbies, and can get fascinated by conversations on topics ranging from Renaissance recorder music to systems studies. I'll read pretty much anything that's written in Roman characters, with little concern as to whether it's a language I actually know. Yes, I am a knowledge junkie. I live 2 hours and a hundred years from San Francisco, and am looking forward to the stimulation of participating in this community. Phetsy 02:49, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya, long-time user of Wiki, decided that I ought to finally get down and start helping out too. I'm a high school student, so I can't say I know much, but I figure I'll just tweak stuff here and there until I get the hang of it. Extremely fond of history and philosophy and...old stuff in general, but my interests quite literally spread to everything and anything under the sun. EvilStorm 14:06, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I guess i'm pretty new to Wikipedia. I've been here for about a week, and already I have lots of edits to pages and even posted 2 new articles: Break Quest, and the Pandora's Box (album) article.

I'm a hardcore gamer, and at the same time I like science and philosophy. So i'm a strange mix, basically. In my opinion, wikipedia is basically a perfectionist's encyclopedia. You see a problem, you can fix it right away. I'm pretty close to being a wiki-holic myself. So, basically, that's me. - Elitejeff123 16:30, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC) (This isn't the actual time I made this, I just forgot to add the tildas until then.)

Andre A. Muliana

[edit]

My name —which given by my parents and as in the birth certificate— is Andre Ardiantoro. But a few years ago on all my social documents they put the last name of my father —Muliana— at the end. So, here we go: Andre Ardiantoro Muliana. So, what the hack is a2xm? a2xm is just my own attractive modification of the abbreviation of my full name. ;-)

I'm not really a *new user* per se, since I've been editing anonymously for quite some time... But I've just recently gotten an account, so yeah... Anyway, I'm a FORTRAN programmer and I spend way to much time on RC patrol. CAPS LOCK 21:55, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Columbia

[edit]

Hello! :-) I registered on Wikipedia in mid-April, but have only recently began editing regularly. I am 28, female, and live in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. I am a huge country music fan, and many of my edits are to country music articles, including creating the Josh Turner article. I have enjoyed my time on Wikipedia, and hope to become a regular contributer. Columbia 04:37, May 31, 2005 (UTC)
