[edit]

I use wikipedia quite a bit, and I've recently started making small edits to random pages. I think wikipedia has a great community and I wanted to participate in it myself, which is why I registered. If you want to know more about me, my interests, or my areas of knowledge, then check out my user page, or leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!

[edit]

Hello. I am mainly interested in mathematics and computer games, and I think that editing the Wikipedia is quite fun. I made a few anonymous edits before I created this account, but I thought that if I was going to edit seriously then I ought to have an account. I cannot remember when I found out about the Wikipedia, although I am fairly certain that I must have at some point.

It disturbs me a little how much I have used the word "I" in the above paragraph. --Matthew Auger 00:29, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kogoshii

[edit]

I'm Kogoshii, and I've been reading articles on Wikipedia (And editing some here and there. for a while now, running close to a year. I only just decided to register though, so here we go.

My main interests are Spriting, Video Games, Writing, Reading, Drawing, Listening To Music, and RPing.

My areas of knowledge are as follows:

Numerous Video Games, Mostly Classic. A Fair Amount Of Literature. Legends/Myths/Urban Legends. Some Scientific Studies. Cryptozoology. (This is technically not a "true" scientific study.)

As a side note, I speak and write in English, and German.(I know my way around German, but I'm not exactly fluent.) I also speak slight Japanese; however, I cannot read kanji, so I would be of no use in translating Japanese pages.

I would like to do work wherever I could offer help, I have a lot of free time, and enjoy reading/writing. Kogoshii 07:36, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lumina83

[edit]

Hello, I'm Lumina83. As far as I can remember, I found out about Wikipedia through a link I found on the XMPlay forums. I actually registered an account back in mid-February and have made a number of edits since then, but I only just found out about this page when a fellow user welcomed me to Wikipedia.

My main interests and hobbies are:

Most of my work on Wikipedia so far has been minor edits and cleaning up of articles, though I have also reverted a bit of vandalism and even created my first article. I would love to help out around here in any way I can; as I am currently unemployed (except for some volunteer data entry work I do one afternoon a week), I have plenty of free time on my hands. --Lumina83 00:07, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I'm Julianne Chatelain, a long time reader of Wikipedia in English. I was moved to become an editor tonight because I'm working as a technical editor on a law book and found that Garry Flitcroft's article does not explain his importance in legal history. So I added one sentence and an external link.

Of course my first edit was full of mistakes, and I apologise, and will study the how-to and policies more carefully. Thank you all.

Petermuffin - a Soul Music man

[edit]

Hello I'm a 62 year old guy from near Bournemouth in Central Southern UK. I have a large collection of 'black' American/African American Blues, R&B, Gospel and especially 60's/70's soul music 45s, albums and CDs. For 6 years in the 90's I ran a weekly 2-hour local radio show on these music genres, and, when that ended due to a change in the format of the radio station, I edited/desktop-published a quarterly Soul Music fanzine called "Vintage Soul" up until a couple of years ago. I have compiled (and written sleeve-notes for) many reissue CDs relating to these musical styles and Soul Music in particular remains a main interest.

I hope to edit some of the existing 'pages' on this kind of music and maybe add a new 'article' on 'Deep Soul' which - on a quick look - doesn't seem to have been covered fully here and constitutes my own personal favourite sub-genre of the music.

Best wishes to all 'Wikis', whether into my particular interest or something completely different!

Thank you for your invite. I am pretty much a film noir historian, and just added some corrections and additions to the American Mutoscope and Biograph Compnay, an old silent film company's article. I noticed 3 million+ corrections, but there were still some incorrect references, probably oversights. I am also working on others soon.

Thanks, and please feel free to let me know any other information.

VISUAL ARTS

[edit]

Hi! I have used Wikipedia many times so I thought I would join, not so much for me, but to help my wife who is technophobe.

Evelyn, my wife,is Scottish and a graduate artist and designer from Edinburgh College of Art (1971)where she specialised in Stained-Glass and Jewellery.

For years she had to "follow" her husband and raise our two children so she abandonned her beloved glass work. However, she carried on paintings, using all media.

Now that the children have moved away I think it is time she took care of her career and I certainly would like to help her.

She paints mainly landscapes, always on location, "en plein air". She just adores nature but she can handle just about anything: she is a Member of the Embroiders Guild. She also makes etchins.

Her style is not traditional, nor impressionistic, but not abstract either. It is much admired for its quality and beauty.

Could other artists give us (me) some ideas and recommendations about how to proceed with Evelyn's career? Are there any gallery directors accessing WikipediA? Any advice?

With grateful thanks

Jean

I'm generally a science geek, so I think I know about a lot of science, but I doubt that I have the expertise to contribute substantive articles. I joined not so much because I thought I could make a major contribution, but because I spotted a minor error in an article and felt that I ought to contribute by correcting it.

MULTIPERSONALITY -PERFORMANCE

[edit]
                       MULTI PERSONALITY PERFORMANCE

                         by Dr. K.R. Chandrasekaran

We have heard about “multi personality disorder”. In medical language this is a stage wherein a man undergoes the experience of different personalities in him. The person undergoing such change is, in general, not aware of such changes and expresses a surprise as to what went through him.

The changes in him, in many cases, are drastic. That is the voice the moods, the taste, speech, behaviour, recognition,understand- ing, likes and dislikes all change. This has been proved in many cases and you can have references for such incidence.

In the above case the change is not known to the plerson Involved. If there are many personalities in him, they exhibit Differently, yet not known to the person involved. However We can find evidences for the varied personalities to know Each other. The personalities all have a key. The4 key may be A word, sound. Picture, scene, reference or a song. The moment the key is available, the corresponding personality pops out of him to take over him.

There are few cases some personalities, among themselves, Can recognize one another.

In the case of multy personality performance the “body” is one and the same but the performing personalities are entirely different and areout of the body personalities. In this case each pwesonaly knows where they are what they are and why they are occupying the body. The change over is carried out among the personalities with full knowledge among themselvews. Hence each personality recognizes the other. Even in performance they know who is doing what. Further the changeover is with full knowledge of each one. The personality is an external life force from anywhere in the universe. The changeover in the body can be observed by one who is very close to thew body, that too in limited areas. The areas are speech, voice, movement, reaction to external person(s), likes and dislikes, movement, recognition of outside world etc.

In the case of the “body” – it may be in existence (that is alive) Or dead. Here the “body” is operated as an empty cylinder. It can be filled with any (gas) personality. As already explained Is a port. Just like a RAM. It stores the life (oe performance) For short period or as long as a personality occupies it. The Moment the personality leaves the body it becomes empty. If a second personality does not take over it will end up with virtual death, in medical terms. The body must be taken over by a next personality within a specified time. As otherwise the body will elapse. If in a case the take over is delayed one can sense the smell of dead body. The body remains as a receptive piece for limited hours and then starts decaying. The body becomes chill. If the take over is delayed beyond a time the personality taking over the body will struggle to vitalize the body before comensing performance. During this take over period the dead body smell continues. After the body reaches a normal condition the smell disappears. It can be observed very well. All the experience of such a change in a body can be observed by a person closely living with it. For proof the voice recorded is readily available.

The variation in tone, pitch, depth, width all can be verified. But other behaviors need watch only by coexistence.

ALL SAID AND DONE THE BODY IS THE SAME.

I am a 35 year old New York attorney specializing in capital markets transactions. The articles about topics in the financial services industry are often amateurish and/or incorrect. I want to comment on them. In general I am very suspicious of Wikipedia, especially when it gets cited as an authoritative source. People should understand that the accuracy of its information is completely hit-or-miss, depending on who is writing the article and who is commenting. But best of luck in this grand experiment.

PS: Contributors, even to Talk sections, should really learn to spell check. Typos call into question the commitment level of the contributor. If they can not be bothered to use a spell check, can they be bothered to check the accuracy of what they are saying?

Hi Lendorian You arbitrarily removed my scholarly article on Joseph Conrad "Romance" to my talk page, where it will never be seen. I cannot see why a lengthy scholarly article cannot be used in Wikipedia. Is this part of the dumming down process of Christian fundamentalists like you? Born the son of a Rabbi biker in Western Kentucky. I was raised in a log cabin made of earth and wood. I started playing ukelele at age four and ws taught to play rock n' roll guitar by Gail McCarty, cousin to the Everly Brothers. He also taught me to raise pigeons and I became a member of the NPA. I played baseball, raced bicycles and listened to rock 'n roll in the backseat of my Aunt Joe's sailor boyfriend's car in the 50's at the drive in. Sometimes I sat in the front seat and watched the movie and ate popcorn. Boy, that popcorn sure was real good, so I never had a reason to look in the back seat. No, not even once. I dropped out of scool in Mrs. McConnel's 2nd grade class when I told the teacher that I didn't want to play their stupid game. I was ostersized for this along with the whole class, who hated me afterwards, because she made us all do math instead of playing the stupid game. That left a bad taste in my mouth, so I became a rebel and grew out my hair and listened to The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Later, this fascination turned to obsession and I was enthralled with the sounds of The Doors, Eric Burden and The Animals, The Electric Prunes, The Kinks, Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Ian Whitcomb, The Kinks, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Fats Domino, Bill Haley and The Comets, Louie Armstrong, Pete Fountain, The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, The Kinks, Paul Revere and The Raiders, The Kinks, The Fugs, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention, The Kinks, The Who, David Peal and The Lower Eastside, The Kinks, Dave Dudley, Brenda Lee, Clarence Carter, The Carter Family, The Buckinghms, The Fairlanes, The Kinks, The Countdowners, Mike Bloomfield, Bob Dylan, DION, Bobby Vee, The Kinks, Buddy Holly and The Crickets, The Nightcrawlers, The Kinks, Sam The Sham and The Pharoes... I'm sure you get the idea. The Kinks were really good too. Later in life I moved around the country playing music in all kinds of groups. The last one was "Those Darn Beavers" a two-man 5 piece band from Beaver Dam, Kentucky. We played some Kinks stuff too. My latest venture as "Drippy" is a new album release entitled "Banned In America". The Library of Congress misspelled it as it was supposed to read "Band In America", but you know the story, it's the help we get these days. It's just not like it used to be. Rock n' Roll is here to stay. It will never die. Rock n' Roll is fun. The youngsters are expressing themselves in a creative way. Hello, Mary Lou, Goodbye heart. Experts(?) agree: Childhood reading of encyclopedias leads to incurable curiosity and obsessive learning in adulthood

[edit]

OK, I just made that up (something I gather is frowned :-( upon here.  ;-)

When I was ~7-9 years old, I used to sit down and read -- cover to cover -- my set of Golden Book Encyclopedias. Later I'd do likewise with the World Book Encyclopedias (although I can't say I read fast enough to make it all the way through those). Maybe, by following references to other encyc. articles on a whim (not really researching anything in particular), I was unknowingly preparing myself for the experience of hyperlinks and the WWW. Anyway, I imagine plenty of other kids did the same and grew up to be frequent editors & readers of wikipedia.

At my place of employment they use TWiki, so the editing syntax here will take a little getting used to. I do prefer wikipedia's syntax, mostly because it's difficult -- and sometimes distracting -- to keep thinking up WikiWords. Those who've used TWiki will know what I mean; others can just imagine what it would be like to have to use InterCaps anytime you want to LinkToSomething.

My interests run the gamut, from music (performance, history) to science/engineering (biology, physics, electronics/computers) to the humanities (religious/secular ethics). So, there may seem to be no rhyme or reason to which pages I edit. If I find an article I believe I could improve by adding a reference here or making a correction there, I'm just going to "go for it".

Looking forward to building the wikipedia with y'all,

Hi all! As a longtime Wikipedia reader (and college student), I have always wanted to fully join the community but only recently did. I feel that Wikipedia is a revolution as an informational medium, and want to be a part of it. I'm a great lover of history, an amateur astronomer, a patron of the arts (and an artist), and have a good deal of knowledge related to counterculture. although there is little new information I can contribute, I look forward to discussing and revising existing articles with the community, which is why I joined in the first place. I believe that true understanding can be achieved through perspective, so I will strive to remove bias and add balance and understanding to Wikipedia's content. I have become something of a rabid wikipedian, I believe very strongly in the potential of this project. And finally, when I see an article that is politically motivated or factually inaccurate, it annoys me. Wikipedia is a serious thing and should be taken very seriously. (However I also love uncyclopedia) So far I think we have a wonderful community here and I look forward to making new friends and getting to know you all!--Dave 18:45, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've only been here five minutes and I have been blocked for vandalism!

I have no idea why. Here's what I did in my three hours of membership:

1. changed some wording at Karoline Leach and added a link to...

2. 'Tryst' and to

3. Maxwell Caulfield and from there to

4. Grease 2

I also added some extra internal links from these places to one an other and others connected.

Then I went to Patrick Troughton and added his role as Duke of Norfolk to his list of best roles.

Then I went to Anne Boleyn and corrected some mistakes and added some additional info about the Spanish alliance that helped to bring about her fall from power.

And then I got banned for 'vandalism'. That's it. No warning, no explanation. Just banned - and after doing no more than potter about and try to add some helpful info.

maybe this isn't the place for me!!!

I am the Rector of a Parish and also am a Territorial Archdeacon, which means that I assist the Bishop in the oversight of a group of other churches. I find I use this website constantly. A couple times lately I have tried for articles on things that were missing and thought to myself -- I could fix that. So here I am.

Topic Areas: things to do with the Christian Faith, the Anglican Communion, and a few other things, I suppose. I don't expect to make a lot of contributions to Wikipedia as my available time is very limited. But once in a while I will jump in to add a bit to this body of work.

I live in Broken Hill, NSW, Australia, where the films "A Town Like Alice", "Mad Max", "Mad Max II", "Mission Impossible II" and "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", amongst others were shot.

I am responsible for the restoration of the Kinopanorama PSO-1960 cine camera and the re-launch of this wide screen film format in Australia in 1993. I have produced two documentary films, including Chastity Truth and Kinopanorama and The Bounty, the latter of which is not to be confused with the Mel Gibson film of the same name (although, we did use the same boat). Presently, I have just commenced pre-production on the next Kinopanorama travel-documentary film, called Line of Lode (working title), which is about the history of Broken Hill and the National Parks of Western New South Wales, Australia.

Any Wikipedian who is interested in wide screen film formats, such as Kinopanorama, is welcome to have a look at the Kinopanorama website at www.kinopanoram.biz (online from 24th April). There are many fascinating tid-bits of info about this wide screen film format.

I began using Wikipedia as a way to satiate my never-ending desire to drink from the well that is the sum-total of human knowledge, and soon found myself addicted to copy-editing and fact-checking every article that I stopped by along the way. All told, I've been editing for about three months now. This user name was created to symbolize the transition from casual wordsmith to part-time editor.

My interests focus in politics, economics, social theories, and American history, but I imagine I'll be making frequent forays into other areas. Health and medicine are next on my list of topics I'd like to branch into, along with African and Asian issues.

I stopped by here with the hopes of finding someone who wouldn't mind showing me the ropes, or giving me a heads up on how the rank-and-file operate here. As with any new project I pick up, I'd like to avoid making too many newbie mistakes. After all, someone's going to have to clean them up. With so many articles already, there's no sense in increasing the workload.

why wiki?

[edit]

i am entirely estatic to be involved with 'the wikis' oh yes i am. i have read and aquired so much knowledge through wikipedia and i believe it is about time i get on board.

Searching, finding and exchanging knowledge is an art I enjoy, so is writing. When I write I can connect with myself, ask questions, address issues and in general feel free. There is so much freedom in writing and unlike spoken words, messages conveyed by a piece of writing are difficult to misinterpret.

Writing, for me is a great way to communicate with anyone. It is a speech, not spoken yet with great strength and substance, and it knows no boundaries. Furthermore, written words have proved to have their own ‘legs’ and ‘wings’, they can walk, run and fly, and they can be ageless too.

Earning money from writing is great, especially when you enjoy the art, but I believe that the cash eventually paid, cannot equate with the joy I can gain from knowing that I am being the best I can be.hello wiki. i am finally glad am here.

Father of 2 beautiful perfect girls! The person you see first when you finally make it "outside the box". I have limited knowledge on on all things that intrest me, Computer Networking is my profession or skill, if you mind me calling it that. Wikipedia is pretty cool and I have found myself visiting more often so I thought I would try to contribute online in a positive way where you actually gain some great knowledge for free, open source if you will. So lets have some fun.

Hola!

I'm a business economics grad and am fairly new to this wiki mania! But I hope to learn a lot from everyone about everything. I'm interested about the Financial Sub Category because I'm hoping it can make my work as a capital market analyst - so much easier. :)

Gracias, sam

[edit]

Hello everyone! I've been reading Wikipedia for a while but never got around to making an account. I'm a bit of a spelling freak, so I've been searching for mistakes and correcting them. I've also started to help out by fixing links to disambiguation pages. Hope to see you all around!

[edit]

Hey everyone,

I have been a user of this site for a while now, but it wasn't until recently I finally started trying my hand at actually adding or modifying content. I'm a third-year computer sciences major / philosophy minor and a serious pop culture junkie. I hope to be able to add at least one thing of marginal value to this wealth of knowledge that is contained here. Thanks for having me aboard!Warhorus 04:05, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph II

[edit]
Joseph the second was the son of Maria Teresa the Emperoress of the Hapsburg Empire. Maria Teresa was extremely loyal to the Catholic church and thought that the only religion that was worth anything was Catholicism. During the Enlightenment new ideas arose that did not follow the old regime. There were now natural laws that people were starting to adapt. Religion no longer played a big part in people's lives. Joseph the second was one og the rulers that believed and adapted these new ideas. Joseph did three things that really changed people's way of living. The first thing that Joseph did was that he said that religion was no longer important and that in the end all religion was the same. The end result of every religion is the belief in God or some other higher power. This move was quite ironic because of who Joseph's mother was. The second thing that he changed was that he abolished serfdom. In Prussia, there would no longer be any serfs that had to have their lives ruled by the upper classes. These once serfs now could make all of their decisions by themselves. Joseph the second at this point really started to appeal to his people. There is a famous picture of the King pushing a farmer's plow. This suggests that Joseph really cared about the average man. The third change that Joseph made was that he abolished unnecessary torture. This also helped his ratings with the public because he now seemed more humane. Joseph the second was one of the most popular rulers in Prussia ever.

Julius Bramley

[edit]

I was born and live in Africa. I am not a general or conqueror as my user name indicates. I only choose it because of his (Scipio's) most quoted statement "ex Africa semper aliquod novi" My Latin is a little rusty, so the spelling may be off.

The "Julius" was a whim of my mother.

I am interested in history and I read about it as much as I can. I am interested in the wider spectrum of human history and how it all fits together, but as I am a lawyer (in my country, South Africa, common law is based on Roman-Dutch Law -no longer commonly called that- originally Roman, (of course from whence my iterest in Scipio "Africanus".)

I am 65 years old, and due to a passion for life and living also experimentally, now have to keep working.

Interest and experience is wide, presently in Art field. I hope to add contributions on geography, history, personalities. I now have an incurable disease, so may write on that also. Multiple Myeloma. I may also write in Afrikaans language.Scipio1940ad 16:01, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All,

I first learned about Widipedia in our local newspaper, when Georgia democrat, Cathy Cox, who is running for governor, had to fire her campaign manager for editing another democrat candidate's Widipedia bio. I've been out of the IS loop for almost 10 years, since I retired from a major IS corporation, so my computer "know-how" skills are ancient by today's standards. I can use my e-mail client and my internet provider, but, beyond that, I'm in the "dark ages." I've joined Wikipedia, and asked a question, for which I hope I get an answer. But the truth is, I don't know whether "Save page" is the same as "Send." Please be patient with me.
