Wikipedia:Historical archive/Abandoned help pages from 2001

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page collects various abandoned ephemera related to 2001 help pages that were previously linked from what is now Help:Editing (formerly under the titles "How to edit a page", "How does one edit a page", and the original CamelCase title of "HowDoesOneEditaPage"). All dates are in UTC, Wikipedia's time zone. Some links go to the Nostalgia Wikipedia, a copy of the Wikipedia database from December 2001.

Page history

[edit]

The page "HowToEditaPage" was created on 17 January 2001; this title was turned into a redirect on 1 March 2001 when the page was moved to the non-CamelCase title of "How does one edit a page". In October 2001, the old page appears to have been moved by cut-and-paste to How does one edit a page/Old version while a subpage called "How does one edit a page/Quick reference was probably moved by cut and paste to "How does one edit a page". However, the relevant page history for this period of time has not survived. To make the history as straightforward to read as possible, all the edits formerly at the "Quick reference" page are now at Help:Editing and all the edits related to the old version are at Wikipedia:Historical archive/Abandoned help pages from 2001/How does one edit a page/Old version. There are several gaps in the page histories; if they can ever be filled, the locations of the relevant edits might change.

Original subpages (from 17 January 2001)

[edit]

Originally, "HowToEdidtAPage" contained several links to pages with further information, until 3 March 2001. These are linked below, with the exception of BeBoldInUpdatingPages, which is now a stand-alone guideline:

With the exception of "Summarize discussion" (as can be determined from its non-CamelCase title), all of these pages were deleted in April or June 2002. "Summarize Discussion" (then "SummarizeDiscussion") was nominated for deletion and moved to a Non-CamelCase title in June 2002, before being redirected in May 2003.

Alternate version

[edit]

In April 2001, the IP editor 198.207.223.xxx proposed an alternate version of "How does one edit a page", with extra subpages. Pages and relevant histories (including redirects) are linked there; many of them were also deleted in 2002. One exception though is "[[nost:How does one edit a page/Redirect traffic from one page to another page|Redirect traffic from one page to another page", which became Wikipedia:How to use redirect pages and then Wikipedia:Redirect. The alternate version of "How does one edit a page" exists on the Nostalgia Wikipedia with page history largely intact except for its creation edit, but the relevant links are broken there.
