how to check submission status

[edit]

Hi there,

I submitted a page a few weeks ago, just wondering how I can find a link to show the draft, or the status of the publishing of this page. Thank you. Loriann.simpson (talk) 01:40, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Loriann.simpson: If you did, it wasn't on this account, as this is your only edit made. Were you perhaps logged out when writing your draft? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 01:44, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Loriann.simpson: If you may still have the same IP address then try logging out and clicking Special:MyContributions. Some Internet connections frequenlty change IP address. If you say what it was about then we can try to search for it. New users sometimes miss a step and never save their work so it may be lost. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:34, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Create an article

how do i create a wikipedia article Andrewcliftonpayne (talk) 11:49, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Andrewcliftonpayne Welcome to the help desk. I should warn you that creating an acceptable article is very difficult, but you first need to read Help:Your first article. Shantavira|feed me 12:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Andrewcliftonpayne. To add to what Shantaviraj has said: in my experience, editors who try to create an article before they have spent (at least) several weeks learning how Wikipedia works by making improvements to existing articles, generally have a frustrating and miserable experience.
Once you have understood core principles like verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable sources, and notability, then is the time when you can read YFA and try it: or not. Creating articles is not the only, or necessarily the best, way to help improve Wikipedia. ColinFine (talk) 15:28, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Check it please Hoy Maharaja

Is it prefect to Draft to Public or Not. I think enough sources for a movie. Rinuverse (talk) 14:25, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rinuverse The Times of India is generally regarded as an unreliable source for entertainment-related articles. @Hardikgogoi I don't think this was quite ready for Mainspace, so how come you re-created it out of the Draft into Main? Qcne (talk) 14:37, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
which is reliable source for entertainment? Rinuverse (talk) 14:39, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are many; it's easier to specify which are not on a case-by-case basis: see WP:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Deprecated sources. A specific publication may be reliable for some matters and unreliable for others, and often the matter hinges on precisely what fact one is trying to verify. There is no simple answer. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.1095} 94.2.67.173 (talk) 00:19, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Rinuverse: In addition to what's been posted above, you uploaded as c:File:Hoy Maharaja.jpg to Wikimedia Commons as your "own work". What is your basis for making such a claim? Are you somehow associated with the Cinépolis, the company that distributed the film? Only the orginal copyright holder of the poster can claim it to be their "own work" as explained in c:COM:Own work. If you're not the original copyright holder, you can't upload the file to Commons without copyright holder consent. If you weren't aware of any of this and just made a mistake, then that's OK; the file, however, can't be kept by Commons. If you just made a mistake, you should go to the file's page on Commons, click on "Edit" at the top of the page, add the syntax {{SD|G7}] to the top of the editing window, click on "Show preview" and then click on "Publish changes" if everything looks OK. This will tag the file for speedy deletion per c:COM:CSD#G7. If you don't do this or wait too long to do this, the file will most likely be tagged as a copyright violation by someone else and deleted from Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:27, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Wales

[edit]

Jimmy Wales was born on August 7, 1966 or on August 8, 1966? The source reported in the page about him https://www.oregonlive.com/siliconforest/2007/07/on_wikipedia_and_its_founders.html says that ""I am 40," Wales replied, adding that the date cited for his birthday on his Wikipedia biography -- Aug. 7, 1966 -- is incorrect". The date of his birth is uncertain. Can you provide some sources on this matter? 2A02:B025:F03:FFA1:1668:F38B:5C4F:DF93 (talk) 18:59, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Jimmy Wales is the proper place to discuss this. You can also ask him directly at User talk: Jimbo Wales. Cullen328 (talk) 19:17, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328 Many thanks for your answer. I ask him this question. 2A02:B025:F03:FFA1:1668:F38B:5C4F:DF93 (talk) 19:21, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328 but only autoconfirmed users can edit the page. I can't ask him this question. 2A02:B025:F03:FFA1:1668:F38B:5C4F:DF93 (talk) 19:28, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Try Talk:Jimmy Wales then. Or register an account, make ten edits in four days, and then you can ask directly. Cullen328 (talk) 19:37, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Be aware also that it is entirely possible for Mr Wales to have been born on 8 August UTC (aka Greenwich Mean Time), which this global encyclopedia often uses by default, but 7 August local (Huntsville, Alabama) time, which lags UTC by 6 hours.
The Wikipedia article about him specifically mentions the 7/8th discrepancy in its Section 1: if there were any definitive Reliable source to settle the matter, it would have been used by now. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.67.173 (talk) 00:32, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess in this particular case, a statement by Jimbo on his usertalk could qualify as a WP:ABOUTSELF source. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:24, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kirkheaton, Northumberland

[edit]

I would like to suggest that the information about the Manor House in Kirkheaton should also refer to the following internet search result. Kirkheaton Manor House (The Gatehouse Record) (gatehouse-gazetteer.info)-see below. This would suggest that the Manor house is NOT a Pele Tower but a Bastle. https://gatehouse-gazetteer.info/English%20sites/2450.html Would it be possible for someone more capable than myself to amend the information please ? GardeningDave (talk) 19:24, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to the Teahouse. Please raise this question on Talk:Kirkheaton, Northumberland. It is not clear to me whether Gatehouse Gazeteer is what Wikipedia would count as a reliable source - is there editorial control over it, and if so, who by? You can ask for people's judgement on the matter at WP:RSN. ColinFine (talk) 21:07, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@GardeningDave: If you bring this up on Kirkheaton's talk page, you might mention that Grade II* listed buildings in Northumberland characterizes the building as a bastle house. Deor (talk) 23:05, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Deor, I'll do that. 2.28.251.120 (talk) 17:11, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Deleted

[edit]

Hello, I was editing The Try Guys page as they recently announced a new cast. I was editing the "Cast" section to include the new cast members with brief bios of each. All of my work was deleted as "not constructive" even though I was pulling the information for the bios from The Try Guys website and other legitimate sources. I was also providing links and citations as I went. I am not sure how this could have been viewed as "not constructive" Citsymtserof (talk) 20:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Citsymtserof. Disagreements between editors are a normal part of collaboration in Wikipedia: if you want to pursue this, your recommended course of action is to open a discussion with the editor who reverted you on the article's talk page Talk:The Try Guys. (Make sure you ping the editor, so that they know you've raised the issue). See WP:BRD for how this works.
My guess is that the other editor thought that you were putting too much detail in - we don't normally put extended bios of people in an article about something they were involved in. I may be wrong though. ColinFine (talk) 21:17, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Founding of the Volkswagen company

[edit]

I try to post 1 interesting fact or ideal or something Dailey most of the public doesn't know. Today I tried about Volkswagen and FB wouldn't let me. Said content owned by someone else. Why? Don't usually have trouble. " IJamie Sheryl (talk) 20:58, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@IJamie Sheryl: This is the encyclopedia Wikipedia and the above is the only edit by your account. The article Volkswagen hasn't been edited in a week. If you refer to a Wikipedia page then please link it. If FB means Facebook and you refer to Facebook page then we are not affiliated with them. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:19, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about Wikipedia, or about Facebook? If Wikipedia, please clarify which article you tried to edit, and what account you were using (this account has only this edit).
If you are not talking about Wikipedia, then we can't help: this is the help desk for Wikipedia, not for anything else. ColinFine (talk) 21:20, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
