[edit]How to cite what instruments members play in a band?
[edit]Basically the title. The band in question is the Smile, namely Jonny also plays cello, and Stillman plays clarinet and keyboards. Previous edits to change this have been reverted, however I couldn't find another mention in the article of Greenwood's harp playing either. I haven't been able to find any written source for this, and I couldn't properly link to videos in the edit summary, so is this doable, or do I have to wait until there is a good written source to use? Ștefan Tărâță (talk) 01:18, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Ștefan Tărâță, since nobody has jumped in I will take a crack at answering. Yes I think we will need to find a reliable source for which instruments they play. Wikipedia:Reliable sources has some guidance. I am thinking a music magazine would be ok, if you can find one with the required info. Commander Keane (talk) 21:33, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- I have already mentioned that there are no written sources available for this, with the exception of this website, however it probably wouldn't be considered a reliable source. My gripes were that, written or not, I was uncertain of how to actually cite a source for this, considering that one of the instruments listed (the harp) isn't mentioned anywhere else in the article. Ștefan Tărâță (talk) 10:51, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Ștefan Tărâță, forgive me, I am confused. There is {{Cite AV media}}, with a big warning about not citing copyright works, you can see it used as ref [75] on APL (programming language). Does that help? Commander Keane (talk) 23:39, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Ref number 3 is in red , please fix, I cannot Thank you 115.70.23.77 (talk) 01:21, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Done, the access-date had year listed as 224, changed to 2024 to remove error message. Cmr08 (talk) 01:30, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Refs number 3 and 89 are the same - please "double them up" - I cannot do this. Sorry and thank you 115.70.23.77 (talk) 03:15, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Fixed. The first use was puffery and not supported by the citation, so removed. Meters (talk) 03:36, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- I have removed the phrase "This section does not cite any sources." in one section. please check thta I did the right thing. Thank you again 115.70.23.77 (talk) 05:26, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- You mean, this edit, in which you removed a template saying that more sources were needed? (Quote: "This section needs additional citations for verification.") Just look at the second list item, visible in that diff page. It says:
- Senior Purser Neerja Bhanot saved the lives of passengers and crew when Pan Am Flight 73 was hijacked. She was killed while protecting children from the terrorists. After her death she received the Special Courage Award from the United States Department of Justice and India's highest civilian honour for bravery, the Ashoka Chakra.
- -- with not a single reference. In your opinion, is a reference for it not needed? (Or are you asking about something else? A diff might help.) -- Hoary (talk) 06:19, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Tables in page
[edit]Hiya, I've been asked a question on my talk through the mentorship module and I can't figure it out myself.
How would someone get the table in List of Eastern Orthodox saints to fit inside the page without having to scroll horizontally or it be overlapping with the tools sidebar? Justiyaya 05:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Justiyaya: Fixed by removing a misplaced {{citation needed}}.[1] The template adds nowrap and happened to do it to the table code for a row. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:11, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Truncated table
[edit]At List_of_Downton_Abbey_episodes#Series_overview, I'm seeing a top-truncated table that overwrites the first season entry with the header. No apparent reason in the code that I can see. Does this look normal for other people? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 08:54, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Elmidae: I see no problem. Does it happen if you log out? Try to bypass your cache with Ctrl+F5 in Windows browsers. If it still happens then what is your browser and can you describe the problem in more detail or make a screenshot? PrimeHunter (talk) 09:57, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Good catch - it disappears when I log out. Turns out it is the '"Make headers of tables display as long as the table is in view, i.e. "sticky"' setting in my preferences. Despite up-to-date Firefox too :/ Cheers! --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 10:18, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Elmidae: The gadget was actually my first thought but it didn't happen to me in Vector legacy. I guess you have Vector 2022. I have reported it at MediaWiki talk:Gadget-StickyTableHeaders.css#Not working at The Economist Democracy Index#List by region. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:24, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Using English language template in another language Wikipedia
[edit]Hi, can anyone please help me about how can i use English language template like
, in another language Wikipedia? Arijit Kisku (talk) 12:15, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Arijit Kisku: Templates from other Wikipedia languages cannot be used. You have to make a local template. If you try to copy an English template then you may also have to copy other templates it uses. If you want more help then what is the language and do you know how to create pages in general? A template is just a page with a name starting with "Template:" in English. It may be something else in your language of interest but it actually works to initially say "Template:" which will automatically be translated. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:25, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hi Arijit Kisku each language version of Wikipedia is a separate project, and templates cannot be used in other language versions. That said, Template:WQA in progress lists 6 other languages in the left-hand column, that have an equivalent template. Hopefully, you are looking for one of those 6. - Arjayay (talk) 12:28, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. Arijit Kisku (talk) 12:59, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Translating page
[edit]Hello there,
I just translated a page from Italian into English (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Sossio_Giametta) but as I'm not experienced enough I'm not allowed to publish it. My question is, what happens now? Do I have to ask someone for help?
I do think it deserves its own presence in the English Wiki because there are pages for Colli and Montanari, which were equivalent intellectual figures in Italy.
Thanks very much! Bravenewworld1984 (talk) 13:08, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Bravenewworld1984 add {{subst:submit}} and save to invite a review. It is likely to be rejected as it stands because of the large amounts of unreferenced text Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:40, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Bravenewworld1984 I recommend reading Help:Your first article as each Wikipedia has its own rules. First you should check that Giametta is suitable for an article on Wikipedia. which normally requires significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject (see WP:BASIC). Secondly, find references for the unreferenced text as already suggested TSventon (talk) 13:59, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- WP:BACKWARD may be of help to you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:17, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Bravenewworld1984, La passione della conoscenza. Studi in onore di Sossio Giametta is a festschrift for Giametta. There are many festschrifts (and it has to be said that some are unremarkable); but only a small minority of academics get one. This one starts with a twenty-page introduction. I haven't seen this (and, not knowing Italian, wouldn't understand it if I did see it), but I imagine that quite a bit of it is about Giametta's work. I'd guess that Giametta is indeed "notable" as defined by and for en:Wikipedia. Your job is to shape the draft so that it demonstrates this. -- Hoary (talk) 23:36, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

[edit]The actress Rachel Weisz was born in 1970 or 1971? 2A02:B021:8F03:B9AA:5CCC:CABD:C45C:4042 (talk) 19:04, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why you're asking this here when you linked to the article that explains the ambiguity with a note? If you still have questions, Talk:Rachel Weisz would likely be a better location for them in any case. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 20:05, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Doniago I ask here because the note is not reliable. I had to delete two pieces of information that are unverifiable if you look at the article's history. 2A02:B021:8F06:8295:2A81:4A2:6026:1B9E (talk) 20:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how that changes the second part of my response. This is a question to be posed at the article's Talk page, not here. DonIago (talk) 20:50, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Doniago I raised this issue for clarification. If Wikipedia editors are interested in having verified and correct information, they will address it. Regards. 2A02:B021:8F06:8295:2A81:4A2:6026:1B9E (talk) 20:58, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- You have been advised that the proper place to discuss this issue is at Talk: Rachel Weisz and yet you have not done so. Why is that? Cullen328 (talk) 21:28, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

My article
[edit]I wrote an article about Gerry Douglas (yacht designer) and tried to submit it for wiki inclusion. No idea where it went, or what its status is…anybody there who might help? Thanks,
margaretd70
Margaretd70 (talk) 21:14, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Margaretd70. Your draft is at Draft:Gerry Douglas (yacht designer) but you have not submitted it for review. Please read Articles for Creation to learn how to submit it. In my opinion, your draft needs more work. I suggest that you read Your first article before submitting. Cullen328 (talk) 21:23, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. Margaretd70 (talk) 14:10, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- You mentioned my draft needs more work…could you briefly tell me where I should make the improvements? Most challenging: wrestling with formatting issues, even using the visual mode! Margaretd70 (talk) 14:41, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
Ali B
[edit]Is the last sentence in the section "Sexual misconduct and conviction" a translation error? "He was also accused of digitally raping" doesn't make any sense Trade (talk) 21:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- The help desk is for asking questions about using Wikipedia, you should bring this up on the talk page of the relevant article. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 21:32, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Trade, I have edited Ali B to clarify the ambiguity. The wording referred to the sex act legally known as Digital penetration, which is widely illegal if non-consensual. Cullen328 (talk) 07:02, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
