Email Banning

[edit]

i wish to add an email address of an artist to his page but ive been flagged and banned from it. its a personal email account. what should i do to be able to add his email to the draft

Jesus Michael Kolbe (talk) 00:43, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jesus Michael Kolbe: Don't. It's against Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of personal information and using primary sources. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:52, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why on earth would you want to put the artist's email address in an encyclopaedia article about them? What encyclopaedic purpose would that possibly serve? (I see that the draft has now been deleted as promotional anyway). ColinFine (talk) 10:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My admin account can see the attempted edit at Special:AbuseLog/38129745: "He is a talented gospel singer and writer who is prospected and receives ordinances from the spirit to write powerful and compacting lyrics in the praise of God. He seeks to collaborate with fellow gospel singers who being led by the spirit wishes to partner with him. Encompassing Gospel singers and individuals can reach out to him through his email at ..." None of this is remotely appropriate for a Wikipedia article. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:45, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is a filter specifically to catch promotional language? Trade (talk) 12:51, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade:Yes, but this was an email filter. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:35, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is one for articles as well? Trade (talk) 13:36, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade: I meant it was a filter for adding email addresses in edits. There are also filters for promotional language in edits. Many filters are private to prevent abusers from seeing our counter measures so I'm not going into details. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:46, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be willing to port the promotional filters to Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons? We urgently need it Trade (talk) 13:49, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trade: I'm not an edit filter manager and anyway, I'm not sure how well Wikipedia's filters would work at other wikis. They are based on what users try to add to Wikipedia. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:11, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blockquotes

[edit]

I was doing a GA review, I just want to ask if blockquotes are copyvios, you can also see Giado concentration camp to see the review/the blockquotes. TheNuggeteer (talk) 02:01, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The start of the GA review is not there but at Talk:Giado concentration camp/GA1, where you ask the same question, TheNuggeteer, and where Zanahary has answered it well. Incidentally, I was surprised to see quotation marks contain everything in each of these blocks. They were superfluous, and I therefore removed them. -- Hoary (talk) 06:27, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AWB edit summary help

[edit]

I originally posted this over at WT:AWB but haven't gotten an answer, and it's putting me off editing with AWB at the moment, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone who doesn't look at WT:AWB knows the answer.

I'd like to stop the addition of the [[WP:AWB/T|typo(s) fixed]]: text to edit summaries when using AWB's automatic typo fixes. Is there any way to do this? Using the "lock the default edit summary" option doesn't stop it from being added.

Thanks! Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 02:23, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Suntooooth, hopefully WT:AWB will answer shortly. Could you explain why you dislike "typo(s) fixed" there? I found Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Archive 33#Request regarding the default edit summary in the talkpage archive, which may be relevant. TSventon (talk) 10:11, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I dislike it because my default edit summary is already "minor fixes", which covers typos/caps fixes/etc, and because it unnecessarily clutters my edit summaries. I think it's useful for some people, but for me I'd just like an option to disable it. Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 13:52, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There may be a good reason to use a standardised wording, such as allowing AWB edits to be tracked more easily, but the AWB page watchers will know more about that than I do.

Article not visible on internet page.

[edit]

Hello I have created an article some days ago but it is not visible on the internet page. How to sort out this problem. Thank you Aditya Bijarniya (talk) 03:33, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Aditya Bijarniya It looks like some of the pages you created may have been moved to draft space, because they aren't ready for the main encyclopedia. You may want to look at your contributions, where you can find links to the pages you've edited. —C.Fred (talk) 03:35, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred
No article is in draft. Aditya Bijarniya (talk) 03:40, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aditya Bijarniya Then I'm not sure how to help you, because I don't see where there are any deleted articles in your deleted contributions. —C.Fred (talk) 03:42, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aditya Bijarniya: can you clarify what you mean by "not visible on the internet page"? Are you unable to find or see the page anymore yourself? Or are you just asking why the page goes not show up in internet search engines like Google? If you're asking about why it does not show up in internet search engines like Google then even if it remains in article space it is not likely to do so until either 90 days have passed or someone has marked it as patrolled per WP:NOINDEX. There isn't really much you can do to speed up this process other than wait although if the article is clearly WP:Notable and without significant problems perhaps people in the WP:NPP team are more likely to pass it quickly. Note that any article in draft space is not likely to show up ever. Nil Einne (talk) 04:01, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging ApricotFoot who updated Corn Cuchulainn the last three years. It's not my field and I have no idea what the SP column even means. I found mention of the 2024 winner at [1] but not [2]. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:48, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
SP means 'Starting Price': i.e. the 'average' (but it's complicated) betting odds being quoted on the runner (horse or greyhound) by bookmakers at the start of the race. {The poster formerly known as 87,.81.230.195} 151.227.226.178 (talk) 04:23, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. An unexplained "SP" was confusing for a race at Shelbourne Park. I have linked it.[3] PrimeHunter (talk) 12:02, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NOBEL PEACE LAUREATE MR KAILASH SATYARTHI 2014 wiki no editable

[edit]

We would like to undertstand how to make the wikipeda of his name only by logging and with a password to edit the content. 49.205.178.227 (talk) 10:23, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kailash Satyarthi doesn't have any editing restrictions, and protecting it would require a request at WP:RFPP. This would require evidence of persistent disruptive editing, which there doesn't seem to be at the moment.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:33, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is a help desk for the English Wikipedia. If you refer to another page than the English Kailash Satyarthi then please link it. If you refer to Kailash Satyarthi then I'm not sure whether you want to edit the page or prevent others from doing it. You can edit it now and there is currently no valid reason to prevent others. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:31, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can create a username and password for yourself at CreateAccount, but that is not a requirement for editing that particular article. -- D'n'B-t -- 11:35, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds as if you might have the (very common) misunderstanding that the article on Kailash Satyarthi "belongs to" him or his team: it does not. Articles do not belong to anybody, and the article may be edited by almost anybody in the world except Satyarthi or people associated with him. If you are Satyarthi or somebody associated with him, then you have a conflict of interest, and you should not directly edit the article, but you may make edit requests. Using screenshotted image from a video to insert to an article.

[edit]

Is that allowed? Everywheretheygo (talk) 12:39, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Everywheretheygo it depends on the copyright status of the video. See c:Commons:Screenshots and WP:SCREENSHOT for more info. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 12:44, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

timestamps in signatures greyed out

[edit]

On safari today I noticed that every timestamp in signatures is light grey instead of regular text color. Is this a bug, or is there something on my my end I can do to change it back? Thanks Thanks,L3X1 ◊distænt write◊ 14:02, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's intentional, as they now act as links to the comment, for copying to other discussions and such. They have the css class "ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink" if you wish to target them in your custom css. WelpThatWorked (talk) 14:07, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@L3X1: You can add code like this to your CSS:
.ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink,
.ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink:visited,
.ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink:active {
  color: black !important;
}
PrimeHunter (talk) 14:47, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Help with information contributions

[edit]

I would like to add information about the two streaming platforms I own on Roku and fire tv. I don't know how to add that information on here. I don't want to be blocked. May I have assistance or guidance Msffga18 (talk) 14:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Msffga18. First, if you own the platforms, then you have a financial stake, and Wikipedia regards you as a paid editor: you must make a formal declaration of this on your user page: see the link I gave for how to do this.
Because of your conflict of interest, you should not edit directly, but you may make an edit request on the talk page of an article you want to change, and in time an uninvolved volunteer editor will see your request and decide what to do. Your case will be stronger if you can cite a source where somebody wholly unconnected with you or your platforms has chosen to write about your availability on those services (more than just a listing or mention). If it appears to the editor that your purpose is purely promotion, and there is no encyclopaedic value to adding the platforms, then they will not do so. That is not a question about using Wikipedia, you could try Wikipedia:Reference desk/Language and give a bit of detail about what you are looking for. TSventon (talk) 17:48, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
