You cannot sumbit Wikipedia articles via email. You must create the article on Wikipedia. I would not reccomend creating an article as an IP adress editor though. MacaroniPizzaHotDog (talk) 03:34, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are users allowed to falsely claim they are banned on their userpage if they mark it as a joke?

Hey I was just reaching out because I was wondering policy-wise if users are prevented, if they present it as a joke, from claiming they are banned from Wikipedia on their userpage when they are actually not even blocked. I don't want to post to ANI because I am uncertain specifically on policy justification and I think that is unnecessary escalation at this point.

User:Justcgi explicitly put a ban notice on their userpage saying they were banned indefinitely by both Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation which I removed because they were actually appearing in the Banned Users category due to using official ban templates (the only reason I found out is because they used the wrong template and were appearing in the temporary ban category). I told them not to do that and gave them a warning.

Their userpage has a notice again saying they are banned by the Wikimedia Foundation but it does not use an official ban template and it is clearly marked as humorous now.

I feel like that is still not something that user should be doing because it is confusing, but I don't know of a policy justification for why it's not allowed so I don't know if I can remove that again and escalate to a second level warning. Eh, I was younger than the linked edit would indicate the user is now when I started out 14 years ago and I'd say I was more responsible. I think someone that age might act a little goofier and do things they regret, I know there are quite a few things I did starting out in hindsight I think were cringe now. However, I definitely believe it is still possible to be mature and a strong contributor at that age. So I don't completely think immaturity and youthfulness is an excuse. I beg to differ, i never said it's my party at the first place, please refrain from making such remarks. I am editing as a part of a community. a reliable source is again the internet/books published/active people working for it. i am afraid how to rely when i see few crucial inputs are published wrong and community being resistance to look into the matter. According to the article, OmGanGanpataye, Bharatiya Jana Sangh lost its separate identity back in 1977. Is this mistaken? But you seem far more interested in altering the spelling of "Mukherjee" in Syama Prasad Mukherjee (incidentally, a Good Article) to "Mookerjee". (The alteration has already been made within that article -- see Talk:Syama Prasad Mukherjee/Archive 1) but not to the title.) -- Hoary (talk) 08:22, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Doubts regarding using photos from this wiki in another one

Greetings to everyone! Hope you are all having a great day!

Today i come to you with some questions regarding the usage of pictures as mentioned above. My situation is as it follows: i come from the catalan wikipedia and a few months ago i was reading random articles here and came across British U-class submarine, and decided to translate it all. For now i still have plenty of work to do, but i'm managin to keep going except for one thing, the badges. In any article of a sub of that class your wiki displays on the tables the badge of the ship, but i have not been able to use them on my wiki, unlike all the other images that i can use without any problem whatsoever. I asked on my wiki's forum but didn't get an straight answer besides that it's not uploaded to wikimedia but just wikipedia or smth like that, but nothing besides that or how to solve it.

So that's why i came here today, to see if someone here knowledgable in the licenses and wikimedia topic could shed some light onto why i might be coming across this issue and how to solve it, for i'd really like to include those pics on the translations. I'm fully aware that this might not be the right place to ask, for this is not my wiki after all and you might not know how it works (tbh neither do I) or what's causing it there; but any guidance, advice or link to a forum/page/article would be so appreciated.

@Llapis: File:UNIVERSAL badge-1-.jpg is a non-free image so the use is restricted. Wikimedia Commons is a shared file repository for Wikimedia wikis but it doesn't allow non-free files at all. That means the image has to be uploaded separately to each wiki which wants to use it. Wikipedia languages can have different rules for use of non-free images. I don't know Catalan but there is a page at ca:Viquipèdia:Continguts no lliures. You have to work out how to give the required license information in Catalan if you upload it there. You can edit File:UNIVERSAL badge-1-.jpg to see what the English Wikipedia does but Catalan may be different. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:13, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Maproom is correct. According to Capital punishment in Greece, the firing squad became the only approved method of execution in Greece in 1929 and the last execution was in 1972. The death penalty has since been abolished. Cullen328 (talk) 20:34, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Lamb

Hello. I was watching C-Span Washington Journal this morning (August 30 2024) and at the end of the program they announced that Brian Lamb was retiring from C-Span today if I understood correctly. I found this interesting because I am retiring today as well. I thought perhaps this needs to be verified and updated somehow in the Wikipedia biography of him. Thank you. He's also still doing the Booknotes+ Podcast, so he is still making content for CSPAN even with this "retirement" announcement. But he's had three retirements. He had one in 2012 as CEO, a 2019 retirement where he stopped doing on-air appearances other than the podcast but it sounds like was continuing to doing other work for the company behind the scenes. This 2024 retirement seems like he is now dropping everything else he was still involved in and just focusing on the podcast now. So, it sounds like he has been slowly lessening his workload over the past 12 years, but confusingly seems to make an announcement about it each time he does cut something out. --Thebirdlover (talk) 21:17, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Search result information

Wikipedia and its editors have no control over when search engines update information once they have started indexing pages. However, in my experience, articles here are updated very quickly after a new edit has been made. If I were you, I'd wait 24 hours to see what happens. Incidentally, in your recent edits to Severance, Colorado you removed a citation without explanation other than your edit summary "We are the town of Severance and I am updating this information on behalf of the Town of Severance management." This suggests you have a conflict of interest and are, in Wikipedia's terms, a WP:PAID editor. Sajacobsen, also, the unsourced zip codes you added disagree with the USPS zip lookup site, so I removed them. I also remoed the town rule type, as well as the population figures, which did not agree with the source previously in the article (dating to 2009). This information may be updated by any editor without a conflict by adding it back in, along with a citation to a reliable source. If you wish to change it, please start a new discussion at Talk:Severance, Colorado, explain the situation, and ask for someone else to update the page.
