[edit]Delete pages
[edit]Hello! I would like to delete the following pages: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:GustavoCza/common.js https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:GustavoCza/common.css Putting the deletion template is not working, please help me! GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 13:12, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- You added the template correctly. They've been added to Category:Candidates for speedy deletion by user, and an administrator should delete them soon. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 13:14, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! I have another question, I edit a lot of Coldplay pages and a few have the following hidden template: "Script warning: One or more 'cite web' templates have maintenance messages; messages may be hidden (help)". Is there any way I could identify the references needing maintenance without having to check one by one? Some of the band's pages have 200-500 citations! GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 13:17, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @GustavoCza: "help" is a link when the warning is displayed. It says how you can view hidden maintenance messages. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:23, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @GustavoCza: On the Coldplay article, I made a few edits to remove the CS1 maint: others, CS1 maint: url-status, and CS1 maint: bot: original URL status unknown maintenance messages. GoingBatty (talk) 17:47, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. How do you identify them? I tried to follow the stuff on the help page but I think I did it wrong. GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 17:54, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @GustavoCza: What did you do? I can't tell which file you tried to create/edit based on your recent contributions. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 19:02, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- I created the pages I was asking to delete here then added "mw-parser-output span.cs1-maint {display: inline;}". GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 19:15, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- User:GustavoCza/common.css doesn't exist, so you probably forgot to save the page. Click the redlink, add the text you quoted, and save it. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 20:05, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Just added the code, but nothing has changed for my editor yet. GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 21:06, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Now if you go to a page where you saw the message, and scroll to the reference list, you should see green messages next to the problematic references. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 21:15, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- I found a random example: 12 Play. You should see the text "{{cite web}}: CS1 maint: archived copy as title (link)" in green next to reference 22. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 21:19, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Nothing :( GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 22:01, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Wait! Now it worked! There code I placed at /common.css was missing a command, thank you! GustavoCza (talk • contribs) 22:03, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Contant edit
[edit]When I am going to edit a contant it shows me your IP is blocked .. I don't know why it is but before this I have never edited any contant or done any bad activity so why my IP is blocked.. I have found a contant which has wrong information and source is also not provided so please unblock my IP so that I can edit that contant or give suggestions to you to change that contant 2409:40E3:1008:7CD6:8000:0:0:0 (talk) 17:31, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- The fact that you edited this page means that your IP is not blocked. Some specific articles have editing restrictions that prevent an IP from editing it; what article are you attempting to edit? 331dot (talk) 17:32, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Special:Contributions/2409:40E3:1008:7CD6:8000:0:0:0 shows a partial block which includes articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:43, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, I forget about those still.... 331dot (talk) 17:48, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

- According to the information associated with your IP, you're trying to edit from a cellular network. Cell networks frequently get abused, and it appears that you have a lot of IP neighbors that are editing disruptively. If you would like to edit, I would recommend creating an account so you don't have to worry about things like that. It doesn't require personal info so you're only missing out on about 30 seconds of your time. - AquilaFasciata (talk | contribs) 14:20, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
The page about Volker Sorger is gone
[edit]Dear Sir/Madam,
I am having trouble seeing the page that I have been working on for Volker J.Sorger. I happen to know him personally and as my former boss. The wiki page says that I publicly declared a conflict of interest. Well, I do not recall doing that. However, my login and password has been shared with other students and it is possible they clicked something by accident. Is it possible to recover the latest version? It would be nice if I don't have to write it all over again.
Thank you in advance!
Best,
Maria MariaGorgone (talk) 18:35, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @MariaGorgone: See the note at User_talk:MariaGorgone. Drafts that are unedited for 6 months are subject to deletion. If you plan to continue working on it, you may ask for it to be restored at WP:REFUND. Also, accounts cannot be shared. Change your password and do not give it out again. The other students need to create their own accounts. RudolfRed (talk) 18:39, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Actually, see Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion/G13. I did not realize there is a page specifically for this type of request. RudolfRed (talk) 18:40, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia page and the floating menu
[edit]I would like to get back the sidebar instead of the little menu that always seems to cover text and I have to scroll up or down to read the text it covers. How do I do it? this applies to all pages of wikipedia. 2607:FB91:D6E:4428:7C01:4323:A371:B1B5 (talk) 19:30, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- The floating table of contents (which looks like three dots + three lines)? Click it, then click move to sidebar next to Contents. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 20:32, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Or, if you mean the sticky header, see this below: Wikipedia:Help_desk#Hiding_the_article_name/profile_etc._bar_at_the_top_of_the_screen (You have to have an account and be logged in for that to work.) -- Random person no 362478479 (talk) 16:21, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- The sticky header doesn't appear for IPs, so you have to have an account and be logged in to even see it. Then get rid of it. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:33, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Interesting. Strange that there's no setting in the preferences to deactivate it given that an on/off switch must already be in the code somewhere. -- Random person no 362478479 (talk) 16:56, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- I assume it's bundled with other things that don't show up for IPs (for instance, apparently you see a sidebar on the right?); possibly it's not worth coding in a bunch of extra preference settings for each one. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:28, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Email notifications not working?
[edit]I just requested suppression on an edit via the email form, which was actioned, but I didn't receive an email response from oversight to comment or say it had been done - as has happened in the past. I checked my account settings and nothing seems to have changed but as a test I ticked Email me when a page or a file on my watchlist is changed
which given I have 8,500+ pages watched should have deluged me in mails - but not a peep. Has there either been a change in the email process, am I doing something wrong, or is there a break? My email address has been confirmed, and I've received mails from both oversight and users in the past. Chaheel Riens (talk) 20:08, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Chaheel Riens: Hi there! I'm receiving email notifications from Wikipedia. I was having issues with my email (unrelated to Wikipedia) when I was very close to my ISP's email usage limit, which seem to have been resolved when I deleted a bunch of old email. If you don't receive an answer here, I suggest posting at the Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Hope your issue is resolved soon! GoingBatty (talk) 02:42, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
Additional content translation restriction
[edit]I think i have been placed under additional content translation restrictions, but no notice of this was given.
Quite annoying because I'm trying to publish to communal draft to get others to look it over before publishing to main space anyway. (because one can't share the translation in progress directly)
What caused it and when does it expire?
Is there an easy way to check? Bart Terpstra (talk) 23:28, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Bart Terpstra: I looked at the block log [1] and nothing shows up. I'm not sure if there are other logs that would show it. Can you describe what errors or messages you are seeing and why you think you are restricted? RudolfRed (talk) 23:36, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- I have two translations pending to be published to personal draft space.
- Each paragraph is 95% machine translated or less.
- Each translation has less then 50 problematic paragraphs.
- But publishing fails due to "too much unmodified text."
- From docs it is also unclear whether such a restriction would apply only to translating into 1 wiki or all wikis.
- ....
- I have had this problem for 3 days, but after reloading, the exact same translations are now both able to be published.
- I just checked this three times before posting this question, i haven't modified them.
- And now 1 is blocking again.
- This is quite frustrating.
- There is no Magic, but do i feel foolish now. Bart Terpstra (talk) 23:54, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Each paragraph is 95% machine translated or less.
That might be the problem. You should not use machine translation, per Wikipedia:Content_translation_tool#Why_machine_translation_is_disabled_in_content_translation which saysRaw or lightly edited machine translations have long been considered by the English Wikipedia community to be worse than nothing
. Do the translation yourself and see the if problem goes away. RudolfRed (talk) 01:16, 21 June 2023 (UTC)- it's from English into Dutch.
- IMHO, translation both ways is extremely good.
- After what has to be 50.000 words, the main issue arises from long, complex or ambiguous sentences.
- Misunderstanding 1 or 2 words.
- Naming something twice in the same sentence can also trip it up.
- Translating titles and names when they shouldn't.
- My personal theory is that it's this good because they're basically linguistic sisters, rather than cousins. Bart Terpstra (talk) 09:39, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Bart Terpstra: If you are having trouble at the Dutch Wikipedia, you will need to ask there. Each Wikipedia project has its own rules and guidelines for article creation. RudolfRed (talk) 15:54, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- No, my issue is with "how do i know if i have been further restricted"? Bart Terpstra (talk) 16:34, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Nothing shows up at Special:CentralAuth/Bart Terpstra. You're better off asking there, since the issue doesn't seem to be here. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:24, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Bart Terpstra: The English and Dutch Wikipedia both have the default 95% limit for unmodified text. Some Wikipedia languages set another limit with
wmgContentTranslationUnmodifiedMTThresholdForPublish
in https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=InitialiseSettings.php. Are you still unable to save one of your translations? If publishing is not permitted then there should be a "View issues" link, or "Meldingen bekijken" in Dutch. What does it say? PrimeHunter (talk) 12:27, 22 June 2023 (UTC)- I have since published both.
- It's an issue with intermittency.
- Sometimes it blocks, sometimes it publishes with the same text.
- For now, I'll just try manually check conditions and try several times to publish.
- I consider this resolved for now. Bart Terpstra (talk) 13:03, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
