Does an info page about Canada for Ukrainian refugees fit as part of Wikipedia?

[edit]

I want to create an info page for Ukrainian refugees wanting to settle in Canada. They are asking questions about which city is best to live in, where the cost of living is lower, where there are jobs etc. All this info is available already, part of it on wikipedia itself, but it's in English and on different pages or sources. I'd like to combined it in one source and translate and then have others add more info. Wikipedia has the perfect format for this, but the reservation I have is that it is not strictly an encyclopedic topic. Do you think it's still OK to use wikipedia? Or is there a more suitable related resource? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itsirlin (talkcontribs) 03:01, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I very much doubt such material would be acceptable. As you yourself note, this wouldn't be encyclopaedic content, would be well outside the scope of the project (see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not), and could be problematic in an 'anyone can edit' environment. And furthermore, I don't think that any of Wikipedia's sister projects would really be suited either. Have you considered contacting a existing charitable organisation dealing with refugees to offer your services there? Maybe one would be able to host such material on its own website? Dolores Cannon

[edit]

hi i was surprised to find out there is no articles about Dolores Cannon she is very well known author and hypnotist when i tried to search more about her i found out that there was many articles about her but they were removed i would like to know why because iam planning on buying her books please help thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:640:C280:79F0:0:0:0:DFD4 (talk) 05:12, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No article for her. She's so "well known" that she has to publish her books herself (Ozark Mountain Publishing is owned by her and her husband). Clarityfiend (talk) 05:27, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dolores Cannon. PrimeHunter (talk) 06:23, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:BASIC and if you conclude "Yeah, I have those sources, no problem!" move on to WP:YFA. Passing mentions like [1][2] don't help much, you need better than that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:50, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Having trouble on publishing an article

[edit]

Greeting,

I am Joe, it's my first time here. I am having a problem on creating a new wikipedia page.

I have finished the page in my sandbox with complete editing, but I can't find a place to move the article to the public. Is there a way to do it ? Here's the article that I created "https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:JoeTsneg/sandbox" Thank you in advance!JoeTsneg (talk) 10:04, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

JoeTsneg I have added the appropriate information to allow you to submit the draft for review, new users cannot directly create new articles. This submission information is provided if you use Articles for Creation to create a draft.
I would note that fair use images(like logos) cannot be in drafts. It may be restored if the draft is accepted. If you work for this company, please read about conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal disclosures. 331dot (talk) 10:10, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Register of American companies?

[edit]

Today's dumb question: Is there a publicly available register of American companies, that will tell me when they started and (if appropriate) when they closed? I would like to go back to at least 1990, but anything would help.--Gronk Oz (talk) 10:13, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gronk Oz: I doubt that this is what you are looking for, but have you tried the SEC register (1 2 3)? Colonestarrice (talk) 13:18, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gronk Oz Hi there! This Help desk is for questions about using or editing Wikipedia. If the reply above doesn't answer your question, you might want to ask at the Wikipedia:Reference desk. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 13:19, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Colonestarrice: Thanks for that, but it does not find the ones I want. Perhaps there is no central register.
@GoingBatty: Sorry if I wasn't clear; this is for a Wikipedia article (probably more than one, actually). Writing about company history, it can help to know the "vital years".--Gronk Oz (talk) 02:25, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Help Desk is for help with using Wikipedia (including finding things on Wikipedia); Reference desk is for finding out information on other subjects. Your query is about companies, not about WP, even though the use would be for WP. Generally different expertise available on the two desks. - R. S. Shaw (talk) 04:00, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@R. S. Shaw: Sorry if I misunderstood.--Gronk Oz (talk) 07:24, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a question relating to a Wikipedia article? If so, please tell us which article. Otherwise, this is not the right place for your question. This is the Help page for Wikipedia, an online encyclopaedia that anyone may edit. --ColinFine (talk) 14:46, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sound file placement

[edit]

In Walter Hunt (inventor) that I have much improved lately I have added a sound file at the end of the Legacy section. However I don't think I have placed and formatted it correctly to look good in the article. I am aiming for it to become a Good Article. Can some expert help me out here. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:28, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug Coldwell There's a lot of dead time in the sound file. I suggest trimming the file to just be the streetcar gong. Where do you want the file to be located within the article? GoingBatty (talk) 02:40, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: I have no idea how to trim a sound file. Where I have it placed now at the end of the Legacy section is a good place. If it can be a blue link then at "streetcar gong" just before the words "originally patented July 30, 1827." Can you trim the sound file to just the streetcar gong? Appreciate it. Thanks. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 09:47, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are several free tools for editing sound files, Doug. I use Audacity. ColinFine (talk) 09:59, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to down this Audacy app, but did not have good luck in doing so. If someone could trim the sound file for me I would appreciate it. Thanks. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:22, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Technically I do NOT have the capability to trim a sound file. Can someone help me on this. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:03, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Doug Coldwell There are other programs listed at Help:Creation and usage of media files#Audio. Pigsonthewing or Moderndayicarus might also be interested in this file. GoingBatty (talk) 19:00, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Doug Coldwell Audacity (as User:ColinFine mentioned) allows editing certain sound files - mp3, wav, e.g. - though not all. Fairly easy to use for most applications. The download link: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/ Allreet (talk) 13:03, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Location of discussion?

[edit]

Is there a discussion for the possibility of creating the Christine Chandler article? The two previous deletion discussions that I could find are both over a decade old, and (perhaps unfortunately) she has now gotten news coverage from reliable sources, possibly warranting an article. If there is not already an ongoing discussion, where would the appropriate place be to start one? I would just be bold and create the article myself, but many if not all permutations of her name require administrator privileges to create.Somers-all-the-time (talk) 21:33, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the most recent discussions I could find on unSALTing these articles:
Editor consensus still seems to be that someone who is primarily notable for being the victim of a harassment campaign (to put it lightly) does not meet WP:N, and that anything Wikipedia could possibly say about her would do more harm than good. If you wanted to restart this discussion, the appropriate forum would be Wikipedia:Deletion review. Your first step would be actually finding WP:RS to support such a draft. But please keep in mind that many editors are very tired of discussing this, and given the very recently SNOWclosed discussion at DRV, my advice would be to just wait.
