[edit]Delete a file I posted long ago
[edit]Please I want to dele a file I posted in 2014, i'm serching here and i can't find how to delete the file, it's wrong and is related with my name the file is: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brasil_IBGE_etinia_2010.png — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulo Victor Cunha Oliveira (talk • contribs)
- Since it is hosted on commons, you should ask there: commons:Commons:Help_desk — Preceding unsigned comment added by RudolfRed (talk • contribs)
I'm not sure [1] was a good idea. You should use the actual deletion-process. It may not work out in your favor, but you should start with that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:23, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Ref number 21 is all wrong - please leave in quote and repair if you have the time. Thank you 114.76.38.200 (talk) 02:22, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hi there! Since the error message states Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= you know that the problem is
|publisher=
field. One solution would be to replace the|publisher=
field with|newspaper=The Tatler
|location=London
and not bother with "England". Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:22, 29 September 2021 (UTC)- Got it - thanks 114.76.38.200 (talk) 05:23, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Is notability same as fame?
[edit]Just musing. Many "notable" things on Wikipedia are quite famous. Even the ones that aren't household names at least have some fame? Greg Dahlen (talk) 08:41, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia-style notability is described in Wikipedia:Notability. Yes, it's closer to fame (as I usually understand the word) than it is to notability (as ditto). But such comparisons aren't likely to be helpful. Better just to take notability (as used hereabouts) to mean what Wikipedia:Notability (together with its various offshoots) says it means. -- Hoary (talk) 08:48, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- It can be, but not always. There are famous people that are not notable enough for an article, and people notable enough for an article who are not famous. 331dot (talk) 08:49, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Greg Dahlen: as with many other communities, the Wikipedia community borrows words from the English language and redefines than to have specific technical meanings that are not precisely congruent with the common English meaning. Within our community "notability" has the specific meaning of Wikipedia:Notability. You are basically asking how this translates into common English. -Arch dude (talk) 15:27, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Editor has overwritten a redirect with an article about an unrelated, seemingly NN subject
[edit]Tripurari had been a redirect to Tripurari Swami until yesterday, when an editor replaced it with an article which appears to be autobiographical and about a non-notable poet. How should I tackle this? Revert? Prod? AfD? Something else? Confusingly, the talk page still redirects to the Tripurari Swami talk page. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 09:04, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Either revert, CSD per WP:A7, or AfD seem good options to me for the poet page. Looking at the author’s userpage, the article had been draftified earlier in March, presumably for the same reasons.
- I also wonder if Tripurari Swami is correctly named. "Swami" falls under MOS:HON which says (summarized) that honorifics are not usually included but can be if the person is known predominantly under a name that includes the honorific. If you are familiar with the subject matter (I am not) you might have an idea of whether a move to Tripurari (once the poet is kicked out) is warranted. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 12:03, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I first saw this a few minutes after posting this morning, and thoughtthat within a few moments, somebody would return it to a redirect. Now, a few hours later, nothing has changed, so I'm going to do it. -Roxy the sceptical dog. wooF 15:31, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
famous personality blocked to create english wikipedia page .
[edit]Good day. My name is Orkhan and i am representative of Alparslan Kuytul who is famous personality in Turkey. You can check his youtube and twitter pages below. We want to create his wikipedia page in english but system doesnt allow us giving error that only admins can create this page.We already have wikipedia pages in few languages but we cant create it in English. Please can you unblock restriction so we can create it? because he is famous personality and we dont know why wikipedia blocked it. Best regards, Orkhan Rasulov — Preceding unsigned comment added by Orxanresulislam (talk • contribs)

- Orxanresulislam We're not interested in having this person's representatives create an article(not just a "page") about him. Please review WP:PROMO, WP:COI, and WP:PAID. Each language version of Wikipedia has its own policies, and what is acceptable on one version is not necessarily acceptable on another. If he truly meets the criteria that we have of a notable person, someone will eventually write about him. Any article about him will not be his or yours to control, and Wikipedia has no interest in helping publicize him- also, an article is not necessarily desirable. 331dot (talk) 09:26, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- The history of this SALTed article at enwiki is at Alparslan Kuytul and WP:Articles for deletion/Alparslan Kuytul. If he now satisfies the notability criteria, a draft can be prepared and submitted for AFC review. If accepted, an admin could then permit the creation of the article. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:54, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Based on the Turkish WP-article [2], do you really want an article about him on en-WP too? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:49, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think this plays into a persecution narrative. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:05, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Where do I post this?
[edit]Hey all, so this person removed a source and added his own info on Copa América records and statistics. I corrected his edits 7 times. Already reported it on the vandalism page, but apparently it's not the right place. So where do I go next? Thanks in advance. Aquatic Ambiance (talk) 10:31, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Aquatic Ambiance. Wikipedia works by consensus. If you disagree with another editor, you resolve it not by repeatedly reverting (this is edit warring by both of you, and is forbidden), or by appealing to some authority, but by discussing it with that editor and any others who may be interested: see BRD. If you are unable to reach a consensus, then dispute resolution tells you the next steps to take. --ColinFine (talk) 11:34, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- You are apparently engaged in a content dispute. The place to discuss the problem is at Talk:Copa América records and statistics. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:35, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Hyapatia Lee page
[edit]I am Hyapatia Lee. I am trying to correct errors to my page and update missing information. I am sick. I have panhypopituitarism, a life-threatening and rare condition. It is difficult for me to devote time to learning how to code and all that is necessary to make the changes myself. Much of this information, I feel, is derogatory and it is important for me to remove it. As someone who has been in the public eye and currently has a TV show seen in 38 market areas across the US, I feel it is important to get the correct information out there. However, with my condition and my work, I don't have time or health to devote to correcting errors that constantly get reverted back simply because I don't understand HTML and don't have time to learn. Can you PLEASE HELP ME? This is extremely distressing to me. Thank you for your time.— Preceding unsigned comment added by HyapatiaLee (talk • contribs)
- HyapatiaLee Please first confirm your identity by sending an email to info-en@wikimedia.org. You are welcome to detail the errors in the article about you on Talk:Hyapatia Lee; please provide independent reliable sources to support changes if possible, unfortunately we cannot just take your word for it, for verification purposes. 331dot (talk) 17:08, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
I have no idea how to add my books to my page. I have no idea how to add 7 of my courses on 3 platforms, or my TV show seen in 38 cities, or my Filmmaker award for the show, or my life-threatening health condition. Every time I try, you send it back!!!! I don't have the health for this! My condition is life-threatening and your page doesn't give me any credit for all the work I did for the last 20 years of my life! This is affecting my health in a dangerous way! I can't figure out HTML just to correct your errors! I'm 60 and sick! No wonder I have such a bad taste in my mouth over Wikipedia. I seem to remember this happening to me years before. Thanks, HyapatiaLee (talk) 17:07, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I am sure it is frustrating; could you ask a friend to create their own account and work on your behalf? 331dot (talk) 17:14, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- @HyapatiaLee: Because you have a conflict of interest, you should not be editing the article yourself. Instead, you may declare your COI on your user page and post requests on Talk:Hyapatia Lee - or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. If you recruit a friend as 331dot suggested, they will have to declare their COI. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 17:42, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Another editor kindly posted this on the talk page, and yet another editor is offering to help if Ms Lee can provide specific info and sourcing about what needs to change. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:02, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

How to upload and article
[edit]I am a musician, song writer and activist from a pretty prominent Zimbabwean musical family. I have created verbiage for my wikipedia page. How do I get it uploaded under my name?
- The best thing to do is not attempt to do that, please read the autobiography policy. If you meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable musician, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources, someone will eventually write about you. Be advised that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. 331dot (talk) 17:12, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Are self-created pages from public figures okay?
[edit]I’ve noticed that the Wikipedia pages for a number of politicians seem to have either been edited massively by themselves or entirely created by themselves. Is this against TOS? If so, what should next steps be? If not, why not? −
- If you notice clear cases of inside editing, you can report them at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. There are a lot of articles and not enough editors to catch everything. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this:

Link not appearing
[edit]Why does de:Benutzer:Schnark/js/journal[1] not appear? (See the wixitext.) ― Qwerfjkltalk 20:29, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Because you forgot to precede the de prefix with a colon (which I've now added). If you go back to your version you'll see that the effect was that in the language links in the left-hand toolbar the link was to de:Benutzer:Schnark/js/journal instead of to the German equivalent of the help desk. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:37, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Finding other pages using the same source?
[edit]I'm speaking with people on the NPOV noticeboard about a paper, that seems like it is partisan advocacy and should not be considered a reliable source.
Is there any way to do a search and find out if any other pages that use the same source?
-- Bob drobbs (talk) 22:39, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Bob drobbs: You can use the "insource:" search function to locate pages that contain a link to that paper: Special:Search/insource:"researchportal.bath.ac.uk/en/publications/the-israel-lobby-and-the-european-union", there's also Special:LinkSearch That can be used to do the same thing. 192.76.8.74 (talk) 23:10, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Bob drobbs: You can also discuss at WP:RSN to get input on if it is a reliable source. WP:RSNP lists some sources that have been discussed before and what the consensus is for them. RudolfRed (talk) 23:14, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
The IP address answered my question perfectly. Thank you. My followup question is there any appropriate way to mark this question as answered and done? Should I use the archive tag? -- Bob drobbs (talk) 23:21, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Glad the answer helped. No need to mark resolved or archive it. A bot will automatically archive it in a few days. RudolfRed (talk) 00:13, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Ivory-billed woodpecker Wikipedia entry
[edit]Today (2021-09-29), the US government declared the woodpecker extinct.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ivory-billed-woodpecker-23-species-declared-extinct-us/
I am not allowed to edit the page despite having an account. Can someone please update the entry?
Skibum55 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skibum55 (talk • contribs) 23:27, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Skibum55: Hi there! It appears the Ivory-billed woodpecker article has been semi-protected, so it cannot be edited by unregistered users (IP addresses), as well as accounts that are not autoconfirmed (accounts that are at least four days old and have made at least ten edits to Wikipedia) or confirmed. Semi-protection is useful when there is a high level of media interest. There has been a lot of editing of the article today to include the information we saw in the news today. If you have more specific suggestions, please post them on the article's talk page Talk:Ivory-billed woodpecker or use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Thanks, and happy editing! WikiProject progression tracker
[edit]I want to add a tracker for WP:WikiProject Psychology that tracks the number of articles whose quality has been assessed within the last 10 years, and ideally another for articles assessed in the last 5 years. There isn't an existing category to pull from for this, and we have way too many articles to count them manually. The WP1.0 bot does record the date of the version that was assessed, so I know that information is at least technically available. Any advice would be appreciated! --Xurizuri (talk) 23:43, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
