[edit]Can't recover password
[edit]After years of doing Wikipedia edits from a computer that automatically logged me in, I'm on a different computer where that info is not available. I remember my user name, but not my password. I've requested a password reset many times, but never get it. Can anybody help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.15.55.209 (talk) 01:15, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- I believe that it sends the needed info to the email address that you registered for the purpose. If you didn't register an address, or if you did but for one reason or another you don't check incoming mail there, then of course this won't work. -- Hoary (talk) 03:03, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- To expand on this answer, if you didn't register an email address, or can no longer access it, you're out of luck. The only way to recover your password is by getting a password reset email. If you can't get one, recovering your password is impossible. JIP | Talk 03:11, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- A possible solution is to open a new account, which could have a username similar though not identical to your old account. Enable email access so that this doesn't happen again. Put notices on both userpages reporting the connection between the accounts. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:13, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

about "Zhou Chengzhou"
[edit]Dear Wikipedia editor,
Recently I came across such a problem, do not know how to deal with, ask everyone's help.
The questions are as follows:
I established "Zhou Chengzhou" English wiki entry "Zhou Chengzhou" has passed the audit. This is an article about Chinese mainland people. Here I would like to thank the wiki users who have passed the audit and edited together. However, after that, I received a discussion reminder that the page was deleted.
His user page is here: Chinese: https://archive.is/oLPpt (https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AINH) ,
(Page Translation: “Ainh expressed strong dissatisfaction and strong opposition to frequent talks about Hong Kong affairs among mainland users, and demanded that such persons stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs immediately What about the fight? Open the whole simple encyclopedia directly! Pink to hide your ears: you don't want to face the problem, I'll be with you. "Yellow and blue are political opinions, black and white are conscience")
English: https://archive.is/yigjl (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:AINH) , which is the same user name, presumably a person.
This is the relevant page of "Zhou Chengzhou" entry,
chinese: https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%91%A8%E6%89%BF%E8%88%9F
english: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Zhou_Chengzhou
I have had some discussions, but I really don't know much about the terms of Wiki. Maybe I don't know how to deal with such a situation. I sincerely ask all experienced editors to help me and ask for help. Thank you very much.
I respect the standards and guidelines of Wikipedia very much, and I will try my best to cooperate if the items need to be improved.
Best and have a good day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Armidazhou (talk • contribs) 05:44, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Armidazhou, you claim above that Zhou Chengzhou "has passed the audit"; and in the deletion discussion, that "[i]t must have been passed for the right reason". It seems to me that the article was created directly in mainspace by Sai Li 450, has never been reviewed or accepted, has never reached an acceptable standard, and in particular has never established its subject's notability. Maproom (talk) 08:12, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Maproom This one was created by Sai Li 450 that before , that was over a year ago, and now this one is accepted, created by Armidazhou.Could you see it? Sorry, I do not understand your mean.Armidazhou (talk) 09:06, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Armidazhou, I apologise. You are right. I now see that Zhou Chengzhou was reviewed and accepted by Arthistorian1977 with these edits. Maproom (talk) 09:22, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Maproom It doesn't matter, Sir. I would like to ask you for help. What should I do in this case? Thank you.Armidazhou (talk) 09:42, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- So are you asking people to find sources for Zhou Chengzhou so that Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zhou Chengzhou will end with a "keep" decision? If so, this is going to be tough, as the sources (if they exist) are likely to be in Chinese, and most people reading this don't read Chinese. -- Hoary(talk) 12:41, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hoary Hello, sorry, it's my fault. I didn't make it clear. I meant to find the most reliable English source in his article. Thank you.Zhou ChengzhouArmidazhou (talk) 17:43, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Again, I said the same thing on AFD, what is this? A personal attack? Yes, I hate China pushing its propaganda on Wikipedia, so what? That doesn't change the fact the article lacks notability. I will still propose to delete the article if this is a Hong Konger or American or whatever, the nationally have nothing to do with it. Having a personal attack on the one who proposes to delete it will not help you keep the article-AINH (talk) 12:44, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
how to get an error about me fixed at page about me?
[edit]Hi. There is an error at the otherwise very well done page about me.
I know not to touch it, but can someone please fix it?
As the link below shows, I STILL teach at Syracuse University College of Law, but I now teach "Law in Action," which is legal theory and principles applied to current legal events (impeachment, taxes, Affordable Care Act, labor law,. etc.).
Here is the law school page to cite:

Thank you. If you can't fix this can you please advise how to get it corrected?
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidcay (talk • contribs) 06:42, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Davidcay, I've made the change. I think and hope that the result is better than it was; but chronologically it's a bit of a mess, and anyway I don't think that the lead is the best place for your employment history, so I'm not satisfied with what I've done. (I've also removed one part of your message above, because of policy hereabouts.) In future, the best way to make requests would be in Talk:David Cay Johnston -- however, when I took a look there I saw a wall of text (which I didn't bother to read) about earlier request(s), and if that experience put you off the notion of asking on the talk page, I sympathize. Still, do try to ask there; and if there's no response or the response is unsatisfactory, you're welcome to bring up the matter here. -- Hoary (talk) 07:40, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
What categories should this information page go in?
[edit]Hello,
I have just finished writing the information page Wikipedia:Software licenses, which details what should be written in the license
parameter of {{Infobox software}}. Can anyone advise what categories this page should go in? Regards, DesertPipeline (talk) 08:22, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- I just added one. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 09:19, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- User:Timtempleton: Not quite sure about that one, since it's only populated by templates. Thanks anyway, though! Is there a listing of all categories for information pages that I could take a look at perhaps? DesertPipeline (talk) 09:27, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- @DesertPipeline: Maybe Category:Software licenses? Your info is already quite visible for those reading the license parameter documentation. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 14:57, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- User:Timtempleton: True :) I'll just let it be in the information pages category automatically and leave it at that. Thanks for your help anyway :) DesertPipeline (talk) 03:05, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

- Kausar Ahmed Matlab-Chandpur We don't know what it is that you want to update. If there are specific edits you would like to see done, please describe them on the relevant article talk page; you can do this as a formal edit request(click for instructions) if you wish to draw attention to your proposed edits. 331dot (talk) 10:20, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

I somehow managed to add myself to Telugu Wikipedia, but I don't speak Telugu
[edit]Yes, I know it sounds weird.
I made my account here about five months ago, but so far have not really done anything on here. But one day, I was reading about something, and I tried to look at the page in different languages and then translate them into English (because what if there's something interesting?). However, it seems that when I opened the Telugu page, it logged me in, and now it thinks that I am Telugu, despite me not knowing a single word in this language. So is there a way to "remove" myself from there? I mean, of course it's not really a big deal, but from time to time, Wikipedia sends me a notification in Telugu and it's slowly becoming kinda annoying
Random0Being (talk) 10:28, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Random0Being Accounts will work on every Wikimedia Foundation project, such as other language versions of Wikipedia. Because of this you cannot "remove" yourself from other versions. There are many reasons you could trigger notices from another version without ever actually visiting it. 331dot (talk) 10:45, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Random0Being: Your account is automatically created at a Wikimedia wiki if you view any page while you are logged in. Special:CentralAuth/Random0Being shows 21 accounts. I have 354. You cannot remove yourself. Some wikis send a welcome post to new accounts. Just ignore it. It quickly stops. I'm surprised if you have received several Telugu notifications. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:56, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Random0Being You can actually stop notifications from other wikis. Go to your Preferences, click on the Notifications tab, and uncheck "Show notifications from other wikis". —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:37, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
How to use archives template using list?
[edit]I looked at Help:Archiving a talk page and Template:Archives, and am trying to use the template to list the archives for my user talk page. My archives are not the standard "Archive 1", "Archive 2", etc. How do I specify the template parameters? It appears I can use the "list" parameter, but If I try to use it in the format "archives| list=archive2019", the page displays the text "archive2019" but it is not hyperlinked. Jay (talk) 16:20, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Jay: Specify the full wikilinks with
|list=
.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 16:39, 21 March 2021 (UTC)- Thanks! So there is no magic with "list". We have to give the user talk namespaced page with wikilinks.Jay (talk) 17:31, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Chechili
[edit]Hello, you made a very offensive mistake about Chechili. Chechili is Georgian and it isn’t Armenian, it is very offensive to us Georgians and please correct it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.169.2.63 (talk) 23:50, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Start a discussion on the article's talk page for any suggestions you have. RudolfRed (talk) 01:12, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Include reliable sources. Do not make claims in the article which are against the stated source. Do not give false edit summaries like "Fixed typo" when you make significant changes. I guess it was also you who falsified the title of a source to support your claim. Do not ever do that again. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:37, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Courtesy link, Chechil, for anyone interested.
- Per the article, this cheese product is said to have originated in the Armenian Highlands, whose article says the region has been inhabited by Armenians, Assyrians, Georgians, Greeks, Jews, Arabs, Turkmens and Kurds at various times. Since the origins of Cheese "predate recorded history", which is certainly long before anyone cared where nation-state borders were drawn or when modern-day ethnic identities formed, I suggest that trying to attribute Chechil to a particular one may be futile unless someone has a reliable documented claim of its invention. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.219.35.136 (talk) 09:51, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
