- FINALLY TRUTH IS TOLD Please make an edit request(click for instructions) on the article talk page, detailing the nature of the errors. Please understand that Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state. If the sources are not being summarized accurately, please tell us, but if you don't like what the sources say, you will need to take that up with them. 331dot (talk) 00:11, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

How do I give proper attribution?
[edit]I wish to use the following Wikimedia images in the book I am writing, Pumping the Brakes on Climate Change: a Review of the Technologies (and Politics) that could Leave the Future a Future. I want to attribute them properly, but I find the instructions how to do so confusing. How should these attributions be written?
Also, the instructions said something about providing a link to the license, for that image, but I see nothing on that page that says "license" or "link to license." Can you show me an example?
Well, that's a problem. I can't drag and drop or copy and paste those images here.
The URLs are in the captions or (mostly not yet written) endnotes:

Can you help me learn how to do this right?
Thanx!

- @Oscar97216: When you're on a Commons page such as commons:File:Nabburg_Neusath_Freilandmuseum_Kachelofen-20190823-RM-123942.jpg, click on the "Cite this page" link on the left side toolbar and you'll get a special page with multiple citation styles. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 14:38, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanx, GoingBatty (I did a long time ago). Is that where I'll find the license link?
So, I finally found that page again, followed your instructions, and found this under APA Style:
Nabburg Neusath Freilandmuseum Kachelofen-20190823-RM-124443.jpg. (2021, July 22). Wikimedia Commons, the free media repository. Retrieved 02:38, July 26, 2021 from https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Nabburg_Neusath_Freilandmuseum_Kachelofen-20190823-RM-124443.jpg&oldid=576383335.
Is that all I need? Just copy and paste that? Is the link to the page the same as the link to the license?
I'm writing in AP, Associated Press, style, as modified slightly for semi-technical writing. I might modify this slightly, but if it's everything I need for an attribution, I'm good to go.
Thanx!!! 97.115.181.168 (talk) 02:50, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
Oh, yeah: these attributions are too long to use as captions. Will anyone mind if I put the full attribution in an endnote, with a link to the endnote in the text?
Vandalism
[edit]Hi,
Someome changed the names of the main characters in the article A Quiet Place. I changed it back to wife Evelyn, husband Lee, deaf teenage daughter Regan, and younger sons Marcus and Beau. The only reason for changing this names is vandalism. Could you find out whose IP was used, if the guy changed other articles and if he can be banned from editing on Wikipedia? Thank you very much! Ericdec85 (talk) 06:18, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Ericdec85: You can check who's edited the article by going to its history (at the top of the page). You can then click on the associated

Deleting an article "Mind If I Stay"
[edit]Someone deleted the article Mind If I Stay without further notice, and redirect to the article Kadebostany. It seems no civility to this action. What's wrong with the situation? The Supermind (talk) 07:02, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- They have been WP:BOLD, not uncivil. And I suggest you should assume good faith. I would suggest starting a topic on the talk page. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 07:09, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: The article Mind If I Stay is not existing on-project and instead it is redirected to Kadebostany. I can't see log of the page, and how can comment in talk page? The Supermind (talk) 07:37, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I would do so on Talk:Kadebostany or WT:MUSIC Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:40, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

- Not an answer to the question, but a maybe helpful comment: If you click on Mind If I Stay, you get redirected to Kadebostany#Singles, but to a version which says near the top "(Redirected from Mind If I Stay)". If you click on that link, you get to the redirect page. You can then look at its article history, showing the history of the former article, including its conversion to a redirect. Maproom (talk) 09:47, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski and Maproom: I was looking towards the article history. Before me, I saw Richard3120 editing the chart positions and they didn't redirect this page, while probably de-linking Mind If I Stay, which might be not exist. The Supermind (talk) 10:04, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I redirected it because the chart positions you added appear to be fictitious, the chart websites of those countries don't show the song charting at all. Without those, the article fails WP:NSONG as there isn't any indication of notability at all, just statements showing the song exists. Richard3120 (talk) 11:57, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Hinduphobia Entry
[edit]Hi, There is no page on Hinduphobia, it redirects to anti-Hindu sentiment. Please update this. The page is locked. The correct definition and the origins are here. https://www.lexico.com/definition/hinduphobia
Rajiv Malhotra did not coin the term. That is incorrect.
The word use goes back to 1866. Here is an extensive literature review. This work lists the primary sources. Those sources should suffice for the entry to be updated. Please unlock it so that I can make those edits. If you will not accept those sources then please explain why.
https://www.academia.edu/49564097/Use_of_the_Term_Hinduphobia_1883_1997
- The article is locked, but the talkpage, Talk:Anti-Hindu sentiment, is not. Make your suggestion there, and bring you best sources. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:50, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- However, per [1] your source appears to be a WP:BLOGS. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:54, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
The sources are listed in the link as per the comment above. That link is not the suggested source. The changes to the definition and opening of a separate page for a dictionary defined word should not be a problem since it is an Oxford source.
Diddy laugh
[edit]I think the Diddy Laugh deserves its own article. I've started one last year but it got deleted. The Diddy laugh is a sound effect from a CD that has been used in hundreds of commercials, TV shows and movies. Definitely article worthy. If you're not familiar with it, check this video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEPR7qjYfvQ) or google it. Ericdec85 (talk) 15:14, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- So, what are the 3 best sources you can find per WP:GNG? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:33, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- You can check Wilhelm scream as an example of an article in the same area. If you can find sources you should work on it in draft space to begin with. 16:33, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
Commons category preview warning
[edit]I have added {{Commons category|Bureau of Engraving and Printing|position=left}} to US Treasury specimen book. In preview mode (only) it displays a warning in the navbox:
Wikimedia Commons has media related to Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Preview warning: Commons category does not match the Commons sitelink on Wikidata – please check.
Is this just telling me that the page and category titles don't match? Or is something more serious wrong?--Verbarson (talk) 16:44, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- Verbarson the problem is that Wikidata item Wikidata:Q1010519 (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) links to commons:Category:Bureau of Engraving and Printing by the statement commons Category so it can't be linked to US Treasury specimen book. The "please check" link when you preview the page links to Template:Commons category#Resolving discrepancies, which asks some questions.
- "1. Is there a more specific commons category that could be linked to instead?
- 2. If not, could it be created with images connected to the article?
- 3. Or if there aren't any images connected to the article on Commons, could the Commons category link be removed?"
- the best answer is probably to create {{Commons category|US Treasury specimen book}}. TSventon (talk) 03:19, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- @TSventon: Thanks for clarifying that. I have left a note on the talk page, but I do not intend to take this any further.--Verbarson (talk) 09:32, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- I think that is reasonable. As adding the Commons link puts the article into an error category, it is possible that someone will remove the link in the future. TSventon (talk) 09:42, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- @TSventon: Thanks for clarifying that. I have left a note on the talk page, but I do not intend to take this any further.--Verbarson (talk) 09:32, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
Advertising in draft
[edit]This draft: Draft:Bangladesh Bank Taka Museum is written like a full-scale advertisement and travel brochure, complete with FAQs an detailed contact information. However, it's still a draft that has not been submitted for review. Should something be done to the draft or should it just be left as is? JIP | Talk 17:20, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @JIP: Since it's a draft, there's always the possibility (no matter how scant) that it could be improved. I don't believe formal action should be taken when it hasn't been submitted for review, even if it is definitely going to be declined at best. You could leave a message on the draft's talk page or the editor's talk page to let them know about things like WP:TONE, WP:NOTPROMOTION, and WP:NPOV.
That being said, I believe action can be taken if any of it violates copyright, which could be grounds to revdel portions of the draft. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 17:59, 24 July 2021 (UTC)- I have placed a welcome template at that editor's talkpage, and I am going to remove the FAQ and contact sections now. Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:23, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

Uploading a photo which is already on wikipedia
[edit]I am writing an article in my sandbox about the sculptor, Nikolaos Kotziamanis, and have referred to one of his works, the sculpture of Grigoris Avxentiou at Machairas, Cyprus and wish to upload its image. Kindly note the image already appears on Wikipedia in the article about Grigoris Afxentiou.(Note the spelling of the name is one letter different! Whoever transliterated the Greek is not aware that it should be Av- not Af-.) It is originally Kotziamanis's photo, which was sent out as a Christmas card in 1992, hence it appears on Google images. I stated this was our copyright, but this has not been accepted. I am not sure that we still have the original photograph. Since the picture is already on Wiki, surely it can be copied to my article?
Xmaspud (talk) 18:31, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Xmaspud: are you referring to this image: File:Monumento Grigoris Afxentiou Machairas Chipre.jpg?
- If you are the copyright holder, the image can be taken down. The fact that it is found on Google images doesn't mean any site controlled by the Wikimedia Foundation has permission to publish it. That permission can be granted only by the copyright holder, and only if proper procedure is followed. Do you want that image taken down? Or, would you prefer to release it to the Wikimedia Foundation under a Creative Commons license, and the image page be changed to include proper attribution?
- To upload a new image, yes you may do that, but the Wikimedia Foundation (and Wikipedia in particular) cannot use it unless it is released under an acceptable free license. If it's the same as the image that already exists, then it would be simpler just to provide a release for that existing image and we can fix up the information on it.
- See WP:CONSENT for the format of the release. The address where you email this release is near the bottom of that page.
- In the meantime, I will correct the information in the image saying that permission is pending. I have also corrected the author's name to Nikolaos Kotziamanis. ~Anachronist ([[User {talk:Anachronist|talk]]) 18:43, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Xmaspud: Just curious, did you receive that picture as a Christmas card, or did you take the picture yourself. The photographer will own the copyright. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 21:34, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- She says above that it's her husband's photo, so he owns the copyright. If he has passed away, the copyright would be hers. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:23, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- He only owns/owned the copyright if by "his photo" she means "He took it" as opposed to "he owns the physical photograph". --Orange Mike | Talk 23:50, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I interpreted the assertion "It is originally Kotziamanis's photo" to mean "Kotziamanis created the photograph". That seems more likely to me than meaning "Kotziamanis had possession of the photograph". ~Anachronist (talk) 21:01, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

How do I find a project page?
[edit]Is there a link to project pages? I wish to ask a question to those who edit certain pages. Thank you Yo bailaba (talk) 18:55, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- I found it, I had to google (which is how you find anything on this site) https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject for those who like me try to "Search wikipedia" and fail. Yo bailaba (talk) 18:58, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Yo bailaba: You can also try to use our internal search engine, however, by default, the internal Wikipedia search functionalityly searches in article namespace. When you want to find something internal to the project, typing "Wikipedia:" or "Help:" into the searchbox followed by what you are looking for often brings results. Victor Schmidt (talk) 20:13, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Yo bailaba: In many cses the projects interested in an article are listed in boxes at the top of the article's talk page, with links. -Arch dude (talk) 20:18, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

- I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6.3 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck.
