After having my draft Wikipedia page declined, I was emailed by a Tamsin Amanda who describes herself as an "experienced Wikipedian", and stating she can fix my draft for approval. Then I get a message that she will charge USD 280 for the task. Is this legitimate? RhetorPete (talk) 04:33, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RhetorPete: Do not pay this person any money. You should never need to pay anyone to get a draft approved. Report them to paid-en-wp@wikimedia.org immediately. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:05, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhetorPete: Do not pay any money. This is a scam. Contact paid-en-wp@wikimedia.org immediately and include any details they put in the email.A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 06:03, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhetorPete: If this person e-mailed you via Wikipedia, then they violated the terms of use of this web site. This should tell you all you need to know about the person's sense of business ethics. Paying someone to create or edit a web page is often futile and is strongly discouraged but is not prohibited, as long as the paid editor makes a full disclosure (see WP:PAID). Using our resources to advertise this service is prohibited. An article is ultimately accepted or rejected based on the notability of the subject and not on the quality of the editing (see WP:AMOUNT). We will help you for free to improve the quality. -Arch dude (talk) 15:54, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhetorPete: Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure#How to disclose says: "paid editors must provide links to the user page(s) of their Wikipedia account(s)". I guess this "Tamsin Amanda" didn't do that. There is no User:Tamsin Amanda. The name may be false. Some male scammers give female names because many people are more trusting of women. It sounds unethical if they first give the impression their help is free and then mention payment after the client/mark has expressed interest. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:33, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a citation error in Actors of the Comédie-Française, it reads "Cite error: A list-defined reference with group name "" is not used in the content (see the help page)." Anyone know what is causing this? - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 06:13, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aussie Article Writer: Fixed with Special:Diff/1036876195. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:48, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@John of Reading: many thanks! - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 06:54, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for peppering the board with so many citation issues, but can someone see why there is a citation error in Adi Shankara? - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 06:29, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also fixed, the same kind of problem. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:55, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

i want to show my photos and details in your site

The answer is no.A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 08:23, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To add to that, we're not social media and as such don't have "profiles". Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 15:09, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

J'ai une photo de Ginny Gibson chanteuse sur une promotion de MGM en 1955 pour MGM 804(78RPM) ou SP-1122 (45RPM) Like ma-a-d. Once there was a little girl .

[edit]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.51.254.24 (talk) 14:11, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is the English Wikipedia. Are you perhaps looking for the French Wikipedia? --David Biddulph (talk) 14:18, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour. --ColinFine (talk) 16:15, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Best way to preview edit messages on other wikis

[edit]

I noticed that English Wikipedia allows you to preview your edits and also preview the edit message. This is not available in German Wikipedia and a few others. Am wondering if people have insights/suggestions on best way to preview. For example something like

[[Category:Cats]] or [[:Category:Cats]] would show up as a blue link in an edit message, but inside a namespace would either show a blue link, or behave as an actual category page. Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:12, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Shushugah: - if you are working outside article space, then categories need a colon after the square brackets. Non-existent categories will show up as redlinks. Mjroots (talk) 15:36, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Shushugah: I just went to edit an article on the German Wikipedia, and it has a preview option just as we do here. If you are having trouble editing there, the help desk is at [1] RudolfRed (talk) 16:50, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: My question is specific to the syntax/limitations of the Edit message preview, not the article preview. For example I already know that {{}} templates don’t link properly inside edit message. Shushugah (he/him • talk) 18:14, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Shushugah: By "edit message" I guess you mean edit summary. It works the same and shows on preview in the standard source editor at the English and German Wikipedia. Maybe you use another editor in German. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:15, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need help wording an article

[edit]

I'm currently constructing the article "Murder of Cameron Blair" (it's not anywhere near finished, so I'm not looking for general feedback here). The article is about a heavily publicized murder committed in Ireland, which involves two minors who, under Irish law, cannot be named. I am referring to them in the article as "the then seventeen year old" and "the then fourteen year old", which is similar to how they are described in Irish national newspapers. I'm just wondering if there might be a better way of phrasing this, as the constant repetition of "the then x-teen year old" seems clunky. Cheers. Xx78900 (talk) 15:24, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Xx78900: how about "the older" and "the younger"? In the lede, state "the older, then 17, and the younger, then 14" and use "older" and "younger" thereafter. If you think you should, you may use "the older suspect" (or whatever noun makes sense) but the noun can remain implied, just as it is with the clunky wording. -Arch dude (talk) 15:40, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see that the news coverage uses Boy A (older) and Boy B (younger). That would work.--Quisqualis (talk) 20:55, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Top 5 CRM

[edit]

Who decides which companies get a mention and which don't? https://top5-crm.com/eu/ 1, 4 and 5 have a Wikipedia entry - 2 and 3 don't. Who makes this call and on what basis? Bernburgerin (talk) 17:13, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bernburgerin: It is up to an interested volunteer editor to create an article. First, the company needs to pass WP:NCORP, and then someone can go to WP:YFA and follow the steps to create an article for review. RudolfRed (talk) 17:23, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bernburgerin: Take a look at our Customer relationship management article and the various "list" articles that are linked from it. Our own lists are at least as well researched as some random web site. Why should we care what is listed on a site named "Top 5 CRM"? -Arch dude (talk) 17:36, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Compilation DVD

[edit]

A compilation of four notable short films (Lieberman in Love for one) was published on DVD "Perverse Destiny Vol. 3." in Australia by one MRA Entertainment Group, probably now defunct. Is there any way of properly referencing this fact ? Cite AV media does not seem to cover this kind of publication. Doug butler (talk) 22:24, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Doug butler: Citation templates are for your convenience and are not mandatory. The information you place in your citation must be adequate to identify the reference so another editor or reader can in theory identify the published work. Just format the stuff between the ref tags to create a citation that is similar to the one generated by a template. -Arch dude (talk) 18:53, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks AD. I'll see whether the reverting editor considers that an improvement, but I think he wants a reference independent of the DVD package (quote:"Anyone can say that"), which is worse than unlikely. Doug butler (talk) 22:00, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
