[edit]Correct description of year values in Weather box template
[edit]Thinking about this is hurting my brain, so I'm wondering if I can get a little help: if I use {{Weather box}}
to automatically calculate "year" values when all month values are provided, then what is the correct textual description of the, say, high temperature values of the year cell? Is it "average annual" high temperature? I think this would imply a correct "average of averages", which I don't think holds (though I'm not sure). Or would it be something like "average monthly" high temperature? Hopefully this question makes sense. Thanks, Brycehughes (talk) 00:21, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Parsing [ character in URL description
[edit]I don't know how to stop WP interpreting the [ in the URL description "COMMISSONS [WAR] CANDIDATE", if anyone can help - "* [[BBC]] [[WW2 People's War]] - [https://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/91/a4821491.shtml COMMISSONS [WAR] CANDIDATE], Ralph W. Hill, 05 August 2005"

Prophet Muhammad's picture
[edit]I was reading the article on Prophet Muhammad and there is a picture of him as depicted by a 15th Century Frenchmen. It is well known and understood that this is a deeply offensive imagery to a wide majority of Muslims. I do not know how to edit the page as it seems locked but it is something that would be commendable if taken down. The image is unnecessary and does Not add anything to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.160.96.170 (talk) 08:58, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Please read Talk:Muhammad and Talk:Muhammad/FAQ. This issue has been discussed multiple times, and we even provide instructions on how to block the images from displaying. Meters (talk) 09:04, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Racially inappropriate content
[edit]Hi there
Id like to report some racially inappropriate content on the grime page.
Please remove the word "aggressive". No music is aggressive, it is music. I think all these micro reminders contribute to a larger issue with the association of aggression in black music and black culture. In this day and age I think we should do better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.4.33.209 (talk) 09:30, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state. If sources refer to the music in that way, then Wikipedia does too. If the sources do not use that term, then it should be removed. 331dot (talk) 10:48, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- In this case the source [2] says: "Grime, garage rap's younger sibling, was relatively jagged and aggressive - it's where the legacies of hardcore rap and hardcore techno collide -- and is sometimes downright punishing." A Google search indicates it's common to say aggressive about Grime (music genre). PrimeHunter (talk) 13:10, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
New article
[edit]Hello,
I'd like to make a wikipedia article for the musician/producer LXXXICON, but don't know what the criteria is for such an article. Is it okay to self publish such an article, or does this violate wikipedia terms? What is the criteria for making a new article on wikipedia for music?
Thanks! LXXXICON (talk) 10:34, 21 April 2021
- Hi, see Help:Your first article and Wikipedia:Notability (music). (Also please don't forget to sign your posts.) Kleinpecan (talk) 10:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- LXXXICON If you are not LXXXICON, you will need to change your username, you may do so at Special:GlobalRenameRequest or WP:CHUS, or just abandon this account and create a new one. If you are him, please be aware of the autobiography policy and An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Please be aware of conflict of interest and paid editing as well.
- Wikipedia has no interest in aiding LXXXICON's career, or helping their fans. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a musician. 331dot (talk) 10:46, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Logos under copyright and trademark tag in Spanish
[edit]Hi to all,
I would like to ask if someone can help me with a logo in a Spanish page. The logo is covered by copyright and it is a TradeMark, but it can be found on the company pages in other languages, but not in the Spanish one. I would like to add the logo there too. Is there a way to add it with a TM mark? Or any other way? I saw that other companies have the mark: Public domain TM, for example https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple#/media/Archivo:Apple_logo_black.svg. Would it be possible to do something similar? I have all the information about the logo I would like to insert.
Thank you very much!
--Andreanabo23 (talk) 10:45, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Andreanabo23: Wikipedia languages often have different policies. I don't know Spanish but Spanish Wikipedia#Differences from other Wikipedias says:
- The Spanish Wikipedia only accepts free images, and has rejected fair use since 2004, after a public vote.[1] In 2006, it was decided to phase out the use of local image uploads and to exclusively use Wikimedia Commons for images and other media in the future.[2]
- commons:File:Apple logo black.svg is public domain so it can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and displayed in the Spanish Wikipedia. Most logos are non-free and cannot be displayed there. Trademark and copyright are different concepts with different legal and Wikipedia rules. The English Wikipedia allows fair-use logos for display in the article about the organization. I see you also have replies at commons:Commons:Help desk/Archive/2021/03#Copyright logo on a multi-language page. If your question is still about File:Eni SpA.svg then I see no way to display it in the Spanish Wikipedia unless the owner releases it with a free license which allows everybody in the World to display it. That is unlikely to happen. Companies are protective of their logos. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:00, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
References
- @PrimeHunter: Thank you very much for your reply. I was waiting for other replies in the commons:Commons:Help desk/Archive/2021/03#Copyright logo on a multi-language page page, since they asked me more info about the logo. I was thinking maybe it was possible to insert the image as Public Domain but with the TM mark, so that there would still be some protection of the copyright.
I understand from your reply that there is no way to do that, or to take the logo from other company pages, so thank you again for your help! --Andreanabo23 (talk) 13:40, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Incorrect logo
[edit]The logo for Berkshire Maestros is several years out of date: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Berkshire_Maestros
As it's a logo I cannot edit it (I am Marketing Manager for this organisation) so please can you use the updated logo , as per our website — Preceding unsigned comment added by HBBMaestros (talk • contribs) 11:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this up, HHBMaestros. I'll see to it. I've also left a message on your talk page about editing articles you have a close association with. Thanks, MIDI (talk) 12:20, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- MIDI has updated File:Berkshiremaestros.png. The new logo is now displayed in the article. I have nominated the only one for deletion. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Song
[edit]Hello! I was just wondering if I can create a wiki page for the song popular song "Chug Chug With You" by Leviathan on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0Uh3OJCx3o This is the link for the song. Russell Wilson 223 (talk) 12:40, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Russell Wilson 223 You may create a Wikipedia article(not a mere "page") if the song meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable song, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Creating a new article is challenging, please read Your First Article and use the new user tutorial. It may also be good to gain some experience editing existing articles first. 331dot (talk) 12:48, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Help with draft
[edit]Hi! the review process for Draft:Charly_Arnolt is taking too long. I need someone to come help me with this, i have fixed some issues that have been expressed on the draft like Notability and i have included more external news sources covering her career. New present day articles on her career and move to ESPN.
Can someone please take a look and see if it's all up to par? Thanks.
Escorban-Han (talk) 15:37, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Escorban-Han Reviews are conducted by volunteers in no particular order, and there are thousands of drafts awaiting review, so patience is required. 331dot (talk) 15:59, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Escorban-Han which three of the sources cited in that draft do most, in your view, to establish that she is notable? (You might be able to speed up the formal review process by removing some of those that do least.) Maproom (talk) 15:59, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
I have cited several of them from apnews, thespun, espnexpressroom, mandatory, bizjournals, indystar etc, you can click on the refs to view them. Escorban-Han (talk) 16:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Escorban-Han, I don't think you quite understood Maproom's suggestion. Looking at the titles of your citations, it's pretty obvious that many of them are based on press releases. However reliable the publication is, an article based on a press release is not indepedent of the subject, and so does not contribute in any way to establishing their notability. --ColinFine (talk) 21:01, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi :ColinFine thank you for your answer.
I don't fully understand sorry. Can you show me an example of a reliable news publication? And explain what make the sources i have cited obvious press releases?
Escorban-Han (talk) 07:53, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Escorban-Han. First, this is not about reliability: it is about the quite separate criterion of independence from the subject. An unreliable source may almost never be cited in Wikipedia; a non-independent source may be cited, but only for the limited purposes explained in WP:PRIMARY. As for a press release: when I see a title such as "WWE announcer Charly Caruso joins ESPN" I know that it's 90% likely that this is not independent research and writing by a journalist, but simply regurgitating what has been sent out by ESPN or Arnolt's team as a press-release. Similarly, "Charly Arnolt: Working At WWE Is Just As Wild As You’d Expect It To Be" tells me that this is almost certainly based on an interview with Arnolt". In the other hand, "Sports Media World Reacts To The Charly Arnolt News" might be the result of a journalist looking at other sources and writing their own article based on them, so that might indeed be independent. I haven't actually looked at these articles cited (I tried to look at the first one, but it won't show me it unless I disable my adblocker - but I saw that it was quoting Arnolt in the second paragraph) so my impressions could be wrong. But when almost all the citations appear from their titles to be such routine non-independent announcements, I conclude that they probably don't add up to notability. If I were reviewing the article, of course I would look into them all. The thing to remember is that Wikipedia is basically not interested in anything said by the subject of an article or by their associates, whether in their own publications, or in interviews or press releases. It is only interested in what people who have no connection whatever with Arnolt, and have not been prompted or fed information on her behalf, have chosen to publish about her. --ColinFine (talk) 13:08, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Help with adding to my mother's wikipedia page
[edit]Hello, I'm very confused about how to make edits to my mother's Wikipedia page. She was a public figure. The page is a stub right now, I don't know who added it, but it seems it was created based on her obituary. I spent a significant amount of time adding to it in order to fill out the info on her, and referenced publicly available sources for all the edits I made. Some time after the, a wiki bot came through the page and wiped out every edit I made. I need help understanding who can make those additions if not me. For what it's worth I have my mother's power of attorney and am trustee of her estate. What other credentials are needed to make changes to her page?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackie'sOldestDaughter (talk • contribs)
- Jackie'sOldestDaughter Your edits were not removed by a bot, but by a human.(there was a bot edit in between which is probably why you thought that) As you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid in most cases directly editing the article about your mother, but you may make formal edit requests(click for instructions) on the article talk page (Talk:Jackie Young (politician)) detailing changes you feel are needed. 331dot (talk) 15:57, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Souldier Brand
[edit]Hello Wiki Team,
I would like to start a page for the Souldier Brand. We have been in business for 16 years and hold US and international trademarks in most categories of product under the name Souldier. I cannot register the name Souldier as a user name. Someone put out an album under this name after our presence in the music industry and market. What can I do about this and what are suggestions on how to proceed?
Souldier is a world-wide manufacturer of guitar straps and lifestyle goods based in the music industry with artist relationships from Taylor Swift to Aerosmith.
Please advise.
Jen Founder/Owner www.souldier.us
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:300F:1F06:100:DF:7FD5:D425:E574 (talk) 16:23, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- There isn't much we can do about the username, though your username should not be that of your company, since accounts are for specific individuals. You could format your name as "JohnPublic of Souldier". However, you seem to have a common misconception about Wikipedia. It is not a place for companies to have "pages" about themselves. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with articles. Those articles (in this case) are typically written by independent editors, and should summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company wants to say about itself, only in what those completely unconnected with the company choose on their own to say about it(no press releases, announcements of routine business activities, brief mentions, staff interviews or primary sources). Please review conflict of interest and paid editing, as well as WP:ORGFAQ for more information. 331dot (talk) 16:32, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Jen. I'd suggest you WP:REGISTER a username like "Jen at Souldier", you can't have just "Souldier" because of a rule called WP:CORPNAME. Now, with a ton of caveats, based on that I found this [3] article, it may be possible to start a WP-article about your company that "sticks". Maybe. Take the time to read Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. If, after reading that, you still want to try, you can talk to me at my talkpage. I may be willing/able to help. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:44, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Help with adding related articles
[edit]I'm having trouble with adding related articles at the bottom, with the article I've made Philip Perlman (actor). — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoviesandTelevisionFan (talk • contribs) 16:30, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- MoviesandTelevisionFan Are you asking how to get rid of the uncategorized template? You have added the article to 7 categories since that template was added to the article, so I have now removed the template. It doesn't go away on its own, so in the future feel free to remove such templates when they no longer apply because you have fixed whatever issue they are complaining about. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:49, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Well okay, but I was talking about how to add other articles link to the article at the bottom (Related articles), the orphan template. But if it's the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoviesandTelevisionFan (talk • contribs) 17:06, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- MoviesandTelevisionFan Do you want to add a see also section like Out of Sight#See also? The orphan template has now been removed as other articles have been linked to the new article.TSventon (talk) 18:42, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- @MoviesandTelevisionFan: Are you referring to the three articles often seen under "RELATED ARTICLES" at the bottom of mobile pages like [4]? They may also show in the desktop version if you have selected the skin "MinervaNeue" or "Timeless" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. The articles are added automatically by a search feature which may not have run yet on the new Philip Perlman (actor). It is possible to choose the articles with code at mw:Extension:RelatedArticles but we very rarely do that. A search [5] only finds the code in 177 articles out of six million. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- PrimeHunter Actually, it's fine now. I found out why. MoviesandTelevisionFan (talk)

Review a draft needed
[edit]I have a page made and I want your help to review it as it is my first time creating a page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by RezookSa (talk • contribs)
- RezookSa I have added the appropriate information to allow you to submit the draft for a review. Once you do, it may take several weeks if not months due to a large backlog, so patience will be needed. 331dot (talk) 19:17, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- @RezookSa: Welcome to the Teahouse! Some quick observations: There is a lot of information in the lead and the Personal life section that does not have a corresponding reference. The External links section belongs after the References section per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout. The external links should be formatted per Wikipedia:External links#How to link. Could any of the external links be used as references instead? Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 20:15, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
