изменение названия
[edit]Добрый день! Мне необходимо поменять название статьи, университет теперь на английском называется иначе. Старое название Saratov State Technical University. Новое название Yuri Gagarin State Technical University Of Saratov. Как мне изменить название? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Анастасия Печилина (talk • contribs) 05:26, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Анастасия Печилина - Это английская Википедия. Вы уверены, что не ищете русскую Википедию? Beaneater (talk) 05:29, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

- I know of no program called "Wikipedia Gifting". You are probably the victim of a scam. Since it is a very bad idea to share your contact details on an open forum like this one, you may choose to pursue this with e-mail with the Wikimedia Foundation (the organization that runs the Wikipedia system), but I fear that they will not have any information about the scammers. Try an e-mail to info@wikimedia.org to ask who to contact, but do not provide any financial info such as credit card or bank account numbers until you are sure you are in contact with the correct people. -Arch dude (talk) 08:05, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- (ec)I'm not sure what you are referencing by a "Wikipedia gift". Did you perhaps accidentally authorize a recurring donation to the Wikimedia Foundation, the organization that operates Wikipedia? If you have never donated to the Foundation, you will need to contact your financial institution and possibly your local authorities for assistance. 331dot (talk) 08:06, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Title of actor credited under different names
[edit]Scenario: Actor has been going by a certain name for a while, most of the links to the page are under that name, has a Google knowledge panel, etc. Recently/currently, they have started going by a stage name. Would it be right to have the page be titled the current/recent name they go by, or the name they have mostly been credited as up until now?
Page in question: Odessa A'zion (stage name) / Odessa Adlon (real name)
- @Starklinson: Generally we go by WP:COMMONNAME, so if she had just recently switched, most of the reliable sources would still refer to her by her birthname which we would leave as the title (her stage name can be added to the body of the article, though). It could change as sources gradually use her stage name more. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this:

first things to do in wikipedia when uploading
[edit]wanted to ask what would be the first things to do or process to go to when uploading a file in wikipedia? Yogibur (talk) 10:05, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Yogibur: Generally, the first thing you should do is find out who owns the copyright (if it isn't you) and either way, under which license you will license it (for your own files, not files downloaded from the internet) or under which license they are (for files where you are not the copyright holder). I also recommend that new users use the file upload wizard at least until you get how things work. Victor Schmidt (talk) 11:26, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Victor Schmidt: I see...copyright is really what I'm concerned about, bc I might be violating something. But this one's helpful thank you. I'll look into the link u sent me. Yogibur (talk) 08:44, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
incorrect page that needs to be changed
[edit]Hi,
There's a page in wikipedia that is not correct https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/3CS_(research)
I've tried to add the correct information but it was removed. It is not promotional. Both the title (3CS research) and content is wrong. The research is called Crop Science Centre. Is it possible to remove the current page? thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by CambPlants (talk • contribs) 10:59, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- CambPlants, Content like
The centre will provide leadership in crop science, generating a dynamic research community whilst training a new generation of researchers in crop science
orThe Centre is designed to fast-track technologies to sustainably improve farmers’ yields worldwide
is definitely promotional and not adhering to the neutral tone expected on Wikipedia. Your username also implies shared use since it represents the centre as a whole, which is not allowed under our username policy. Finally, it seems that you might be being paid for your contributions or have a different conflict of interest; in both cases, you need to disclose your affiliation with the subject. In case you are expected to edit the page as part of your job, you are required to do so by our terms of use. If you do have a conflict of interest of any kind, you should not be editing the page directly, but instead propose changes on the article's talk page, backed up by reliable sources. Article Approval
[edit]- Link: Draft:Ryan Delanuez
Hello On the 7th of October I created a draft Titled Ryan Delanuez, but for some reason I was not able to publish the article I created after I created it. the submit your article for review button was not available after I finished my draft even though I created the article. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?preload=Template%3AAfc+preload%2Fdraft&editintro=Template%3AAfC+draft+editintro&title=Draft:Ryan_Delanuez&create=Create+new+article+draft#) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juwonbam (talk • contribs) 11:37, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Juwonbam: you can in theory submit drafts for review by placing
{{subst:submit}}
on it. When you copy it from here, please copy it as it appears when you view the page. Victor Schmidt (talk) 13:47, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Publishing first article issues
[edit]Hello, I wish to publish a page about our federation: Nigerian mixed martial arts. I have the sandbox finished and published but can't find the page when I search it in Wikipedia. I am from the technical department and it's my first time using Wikipedia. this is the link of the page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Geniusgracious/sandbox — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geniusgracious (talk • contribs) 15:20, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Geniusgracious: first, make sure your organization is notable by our definition (see WP:NCORP) by finding a few really good references. This is easy to mess up: see WP:CSMN. Then, add those references to your draft, and add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft. this will provide a "submit" button. Read through WP:YFA before you hit that button, or you are likely to have your submission declined. BUT before you do any of that, read and comply with WP:PAID. -Arch dude (talk) 15:49, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Saving a sandbox
[edit]Hi I am working on a band page as my first article on wiki (not my own band). I went into the sandbox to get started since I thought of this as a draft. How can I safe the article so that I can return and continue my work?
kind Regards Andreas — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreasblaabjerg (talk • contribs) 16:56, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Andreasblaabjerg: Click the big blue "Publish changes" button below the edit window. This button saves your current session. It is named "Publish" to remind you that everything you write here is publicly visible (though its visibility to external search engines is sometimes limited depending on exactly what type of page it is), and that you are agreeing to the terms of use, as mentioned in the text just above it. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 17:08, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
Incorrect plural usage
[edit]The plural of ‘embolism’ is ‘emboli’. It astounds me that you do not know this. See under ‘air embolism’ and correct it please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.226.166 (talk) 19:24, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, the best place to make this sort of comment is the article talk page; Talk:Air embolism. 331dot (talk) 19:35, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Webster gives "embolisms" – Thjarkur (talk) 19:57, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
- Further, emboli is the plural of embolus, embolisms is the plural of embolism. I would recommend looking at a dictionary. Hope this helped. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 19:59, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
