How do I add my name

[edit]

I want to add my name to lgbtq businessmen in Alabama. How do I do I do that please? Or gay business owner in Alabama thank you, Tim Bigham — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:4C4:80:40C0:B88A:2485:7C9D:D439 (talk) 04:05, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Those lists are only for folks who are notable, i.e. they currently have a Wikipedia article. Only folks who have received significant media coverage qualify for articles. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 05:50, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is, unfortunately, not the place to ask for old records. If you have any questions about using or editing Wikipedia, we'll answer them. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 07:25, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a page

[edit]

Is information in Four More Shots Please! about episodes sufficient to create a list of episodes article?? - Pritam Shaw (talkcontribs) 07:09, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

⬆️Pritam Shaw🍀 (💬📝) 14:13, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pritam Shaw: My opinion is that there isn't enough content in the article to warrant splitting out the episodes into a separate article. See also Wikipedia:Television episodes. GoingBatty (talk) 18:06, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New to Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi team,

I am new to Wikipedia and have added a content. However, it was deleted by a user.

Can you kindly let us know what was incorrect in the entry (see history section), to assist with learning to add contributions to wikipedia.

Thanks --CHATEAUSOLEIL (talk) 11:22, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CHATEAUSOLEIL Who is "us"? Only a single person should have access to and be operating your account. Regarding your question, list articles such as the one you edited should only have people listed who already have an article on Wikipedia, or at a minimum has an independent reliable source to support the content. 331dot (talk) 11:32, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
While the person in question (Austin Fernando) does have an article about him, you did not provide a wikilink to that article. There is also nothing in that article to indicate that he has achieved the honor described, nor did you provide any source for such an assertion. --Orange Mike | Talk 23:44, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
CHATEAUSOLEIL I notice that "Chateau Soleil" is the name of several companies and other entities. If you are associated with any such entity (and perhaps otherwise) you cannot use this as a user name, since it implies a group user. Please see WP:USERNAME. you may go through the elaborate username change process, or you may simply abandon this username and create a new account. The account must be for a specific individual, not a group and not a corporate position. -Arch dude (talk) 20:56, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title of an article

[edit]

How do I add a name to an article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Space chinedu (talkcontribs) 12:55, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Space chinedu: Can you be more more specific about what you are trying to do and provide a link to any article where you are encountering difficulty? (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 13:07, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikipedia Why is it that on this page the title is List of BBC children's television programmes, when it should actually be List of programmes broadcast by CBBC? If this is true then can I or you please change it to the alternative title? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by AJG007 (talkcontribs) 16:25, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, AJG007. The place to suggest this is at Talk:List of BBC children's television programmes. But I notice that there is a section List of BBC children's television programmes#Former programming, and many programmes in that were before CBBC was invented. --ColinFine (talk) 16:43, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage Templates

[edit]

I've seen some Userpage Templates that I like and want to use. But I couldn't seem to find anything talking about the rules of them. I don't want to get in trouble for using a user page template. Can someone give me some more information about this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ARegularWisconsinite (talkcontribs) 17:22, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ARegularWisconsinite: The Wikipedia essay called Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars comes to mind. At the bottom of that are links to related essays. GoingBatty (talk) 17:58, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, ARegularWisconsinite. It sounds as if GoingBatty thinks you mean "warning templates you might put on other people's user talk pages", and has advised you accordingly. I interpreted your question as about your own user page, and reply that as long as you are in accordance with WP:User pages, you can do what you want. --ColinFine (talk) 18:01, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine: Yes, I am talking about my user page. So I can add the template to my user page but I just have to follow the rules on WP:User pages? For context, I am talking about a template like this. Thank you! ARegularWisconsinite (talk) 18:34, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ARegularWisconsinite, that's pretty much it. I'm guessing your concern is: "are you allowed to use templates that others have created for (presumably) their own use?" Everything on Wikipedia is covered by WP:CC BY-SA, so you are allowed to take someone else's edits here and build upon them. I am a little less clear here, but to the best of my knowledge, attribution isn't necessary in these situations, but might be done as a formality. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:45, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tenryuu: Thank you for your help! ARegularWisconsinite (talk) 19:08, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No eplicit attribution is needed, since you cannot use a template without adding its name to your page source. If you copied the text of a template inn order to make a customne template of your own, you would need explicit attribution. -Arch dude (talk) 20:13, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying that if one were to transclude the template no attribution is needed, but if one were substituting the code onto the new page attribution is required? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:33, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Basically yes. If the source code itself provides a way for an interested editor to see where the original "creative elements" came from, then no further attribution is needed. If you do a copy-and-paste, then you must attribute the source, per Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. This is just my common-sense interpretation: If in interested editor has a way to see where the information came from, then the requirement for attribution is satisfied. -Arch dude (talk) 20:50, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ARegularWisconsinite - Sorry for misunderstanding! I have added lots of userbox templates on my userpage, presuming that people create userboxes for everyone to use. When I copied a whole table from someone and pasted it in my userpage, I gave an attribution to the user as a courtesy, but don't know if they ever saw it or care. Picture next to name

[edit]

How to put my picture next to my name please help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Phumzile Nozinyo (talkcontribs) 22:38, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Phumzile Nozinyo. Do you mean you would like a picture of yourself on your user page? If so, you need to upload a picture which you have the copyright to to Wikimedia Commons: it's easiest using the Upload wizard. When you have got it uploaded, it will tell you the string you need to put on your user page to display the picture. If you have a selfie, that's easiest. If you want a picture that somebody else took, then they probably hold the copyright, and it's easiest to ask them to upload the picture to Commons.
I sugget you have a look at User pages to see what is allowed on user pages. You're allowed to have a limited amount of information about you that is not related to your work as a Wikipedia editor, but promotion or advertising is not allowed. I don't think anybody will object to the amount you say about your work at present, but please don't include any more promotion about it. --ColinFine (talk) 09:54, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
