@Sugam2003: Hello, do you have a question about how to edit Wikipedia? Some useful links will be left at your talk page shortly. Please do not try to create a page about yourself. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 15:17, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is so dumb

[edit]

I'm trying to get into the Los Angeles Public Library website so I can check on a source for an article I posted. Here is what I got, a big message about "Proxies." https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Bernard_Cohn_(politician)&action=submit I've noticed that somebody within the past few years has gone around and messed with ALL the LAPL library sources, and now I can't see the sources for all the articles I've created, and I've done a few hundred or more. I have GOT to be able to check the sources, and so does everybody else. What is the purpose of this? It seems to have been done with no notice to anybody. Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 01:38, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm struggling to understand your question. Looking at Bernard Cohn (politician) I can see only one reference to Los Angeles Public Library, that being reference 3 which is still accessible. Could you please clarify your question? --David Biddulph (talk) 02:21, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, BeenAroundAWhile. Since neither David Biddulph nor I see the problem, and since you say it is occurring with all the references you've inserted to LAPL, and it talks about proxies, my guess is that it is to do with the way that you are accessing the internet. I suspect that you are connecting through a Proxy server (normal if you are connecting from within a company or institution) that is set up in a way that LAPL's systems don't like. Have you tried to access any LAPL links outside of Wikipedia? --ColinFine (talk) 09:07, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with creating page

[edit]

Dear Wikipedia, This is to enquire why, after over a year of submission enquiries, there is still no entry on Wikipedia for one of the UK's most prominent playwrights/actors, Robin Hawdon, even though there ARE entries for various of his plays, including 'Perfect Wedding' and 'Don't Dress For Dinner'? James Oldroyd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by James Oldroyd (talkcontribs) 06:53, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have added his name in the past, but if you have made other enquiries then you must have used another account or been logged out. If Robin Hawdon is WP:Notable as you say, then someone will eventually write an article about him. You can try WP:Requested articles, or you could start a draft yourself. See WP:Your first article for guidance. Dbfirs 07:05, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Robin Hawdon was accepted as an article on September 16th. Maproom (talk) 11:19, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd ... it was a red link earlier today. Dbfirs 15:22, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seek medical advice if symptoms of gaslighting persist for more than a few hours. —Tamfang (talk) 21:28, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's much more likely that I mis-typed the name, or that the glitch was caused by an intermittent internet connection, but then why did James Oldroyd not see the article when he linked to it? I'll just put it down as one of those unsolved mysteries. It's not the first time that I've seen something change on Wikipedia without the change being visible to us ordinary editors. If it starts happening in real life, I'll take your advice. Dbfirs 05:51, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Refs number 5 and 6 are in red. Please repair and leave in quotes - Thanks 175.33.248.139 (talk) 07:25, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. You put an access-date where you did not need one (an offline source without a URL) and it clearly didn't like the text and too few numbers in the isbn parameter so I replaced it with the lccn number. Eagleash (talk) 09:20, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The LCCN link says "Your search found no results." I've put the number that was there before back in, and changed the parameter to oclc. Peter James (talk) 15:39, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit National Police Agency(South Korea) page?

[edit]

I am working for the Korean Police.

Some contents in the National Police Agency(South Korea) are outdated. The number of local agency has been changed from 17 to 18. Especially “Combat Police”, “Coast guard” is irrelevant topic. So I’d like to update the contents and delete the above topic(“Combat Police”, “ Coast Guard”) Here’s the link for my questions.

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/National_Police_Agency_(South_Korea)

As a government worker, to edit the page, is there any procedure I should follow??(or any restrictions??)

And I’ve heard I could use talk page to inform other users that I would edit the page. Could you tell me how to use talk page for editing the National Police Agency(South Korea)?? It seems the talk page for the NPA(South Korea) is quite different from other talk pages for different topic.

I am looking forward for your kind reply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knp1991 (talkcontribs) 07:56, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Knp1991 Hello. First you will need to review and comply with the conflict of interest policy and the paid editing policy(the latter is a Wikipedia Terms of Use requirement and not optional). You should not edit the article itself directly; instead, use the talk page(Talk:National Police Agency (South Korea)) to propose the changes you feel are needed, so other editors can discuss and review them if needed. You can also make your talk page statement a formal edit request to actually request another editor carry out your proposed changes. Other editors will be more likely to see it that way. 331dot (talk) 08:37, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cannot log in

[edit]

Hi there,

I am the marketing officer at Queen's Gate School and I am trying to edit the school page. An account was set up before my time as lot of the information is out of date. I have tried some email addresses and passwords but there are not working. It says the username 'Queen's Gate School' has been taken. How might I be able to gain access?

Many thanks, Emily Acton-Edmiston Marketing Officer Queen's Gate School

If someone else set up the account, you cannot use it, as accounts are for specific individuals, role accounts/accounts associated with a position are not permitted. It is possible that the account was blocked as compromised for that reason. You will have to create your own account for yourself as an individual. In addition, if you are employed by the school, you must review and comply with the conflict of interest policy and the paid editing policy(the latter is a Terms of Use requirement and mandatory). As a school employee, you should not edit the article about your school directly, instead you may make edit requests(click for instructions) on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 11:01, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:Queen's Gate School wasn't blocked, but it will be as a violation of WP:CORPNAME. The rest of what 331dot says is true. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:05, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a name to a site

[edit]

How does one add a "reiliable source" to then add a new name to a High School "notable Alumni" section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nanafuller (talkcontribs) 19:31, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This page should have all the answers you need about adding references, however, note also that people in such sections are usually people who already have their own Wikipedi articles. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:55, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What would be the correct way to include a link to the errata for a journal paper in {{cite journal}}? The URL should be to the paper itself, but is there a way to also link the errata? Thanks in advance. Schazjmd (talk) 19:36, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

One source per {{cite journal}} template. Cite the errata using a separate template; errata often have their own |volume=, |issue=, |doi= etc.
Trappist the monk (talk) 19:39, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Schazjmd: you can put both {{cite journal}} templates inside the same <ref>...</ref> tag pair if it makes sense to do so. Try it and see it it looks better to you than treating them as separate references. If the separate cite journal does not make sense, you can simply add your own syntax after the end of the template and before the closing ref tag, but I'm guessing a second template makes more sense.-Arch dude (talk) 02:52, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Arch dude, that's clever! I think that makes the most sense, as then a reader following a ref will be more likely to see there's an associated errata release for it. Thanks! Schazjmd (talk) 13:35, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Garrett, we recommend that those with a conflict of interest suggest edits on the article's talk page instead of directly editing the article, but your addition seems to have been acceptable. – Thjarkur (talk) 22:02, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Garrett - I just fixed some of the Wiki-links in your article, so they wouldn't be red anymore. If you'd like to add a photo of yourself to the article, and have one for which you'd be willing to assign the reproduction rights to Wikipedia, contact me on my talk page and I'll walk you through it. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.)
