[edit]Need help reading and understanding a protection log
[edit]I am having trouble figuring out the protection log for NATO phonetic alphabet. I am pretty sure that the problem is that I am either looking in the wrong place or not understanding what I am reading, not any mistake by the protecting admin.
According to [1] the page was semi-protected for 18 months and also pending-changes protected indefinitely.
But [2] only shows the semi-protection, not the EC. and the page only shows that WP:SILVERLOCK icon, not the WP:WHITELOCK icon. In this case, does PC automatically get applied when semi expires?
Where would I look to find a log showing indefinite EC protection being applied? --Guy Macon (talk) 01:23, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Guy Macon: Pending changes is an entirely separate system from standard protection, and both can be applied at the same time. NATO phonetic alphabet is currently both pending-changes protected (indefinitely) and semi-protected (temporarily). Of course, pending changes protection does nothing now, because any edit it would defer is already blocked by semi-protection, but it is technically still there. The reason you can't see the pending changes protection is because pending changes is logged in a separate log ([3]), and the reason that there is no pending-changes lock is that Module:Protection banner does not display that lock when the page is edit-protected in addition. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:50, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Signature
[edit]Hello, when I try to talk with the editor from my Article Talk page, he said that my Signature not displaying properly, and he gave me suggestion to ask you for Help. After any text in my reply I put 4 ~ (as signature) and save my reply. I can see my name there, but editor said that the display of Signature is not display correctly. Would you verify what's wrong? - Well somehow you have unlinked your signature. To fix that, you need to go into your preferences (top of the page on the right), scroll to signature, and make sure that it includes [[User:Toreeva|Toreeva]]. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 05:20, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Toreeva: The easiest way to get a valid signature is to have no checkmark at "Treat the above as wiki markup" at Special:Preferences. Then the "Signature" field can be blank, or contain a chosen nickname different from your username. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:51, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

- The easiest way of getting a compliant signature is to undo your failed attempt to customise it. Having removed the checkmark from the "Treat the above as wiki markup", remove everything from the adjacent customising box. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:18, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Data on sitewide page traffic on specific dates
[edit]Hello, I'm trying to research which pages witnessed significant changes in traffic around certain dates. I know how to view page stats of specific pages, but I'm trying to do the reverse: identify which pages saw traffic changes. Is there any way to do this? How to get an article approved in Sandbox?

- Hi, Alexjnoah, your article is not ready to be reviewed yet. It has only one WP:Reliable source and this source has only a brief mention of the subject's guitar riff. IMDB is not a reliable source. You will need to find more independent sources that discuss the subject in detail before your draft can be approved. Where is your "strong set of sources"? You also have some tidying to do, removing extraneous text. Dbfirs 12:55, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
Hi, let me clarify here. As I said earlier, I am working on the article, learning the proper coding, etc... And I am not ready to publish the article yet, it's still in the template mode, and I have a lot to write, and I did not ask for a review of my sandbox at this moment, I wanted to know if it's possible to have the article reviewed while it is in my sandbox. And yes, I do have strong set of sources for this article that I have yet to cite, and I will be doing that as I make progress, so, can you please answer my initial question? I see, how about using IMDb for citing an artist's bio, I read the article, and it does not say anything about biographies, or credits, I think those can be used as a reference source, right? --Alexjnoah (talk) 14:22, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- Alexjnoah: if you want the draft to be accepted as a Wikipedia article, you will need to establish, by citing reliable independent published sources with significant discussion of the subject, that they are notable. You claim to "have strong set of sources", but your subsequent question shows that you don't understand Wikipedia's policy on sources. What it says in IMDB, in Wikipedia, and on the artist's own web site, will do nothing to help establish notability. Maproom (talk) 16:16, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Disruptive editing
[edit]I have been accused of disruptive editing by two editors. Diffs:1 and 2. Can another editor take a look at the circumstances regarding this and determine whether I was disruptive editing. I'm asking this because I have been blocked before for vandalism. This is obviously not a vandalism-related issue and I heard that disruptive editing can lead to a block I fear that I'm on that path. - Do you mean what should you have done instead? You should have avoided requesting the move again. Do you mean what should you do in similar circumstances in the future? You should avoid making a similar redundant move request. Do you mean what should you do now to deal with the unresolved issue? (EC) Wikipedia has articles, not pages. You will need to review the special definition of a notable person(there are also more specific criteria for certain careers) to see if you meet them. If you do, you can then visit Requested Articles to make a request, but it will not be done quickly as this is a volunteer effort. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not social media for people to tell the world about themselves. Wikipedia is only interested in what independent sources state about article subjects, and has no interest in what someone wants to say about themselves.
