Accrediting Commission International

[edit]

Someone other than ANYONE associated with the above mentioned organization which I will refer to as ACI has had this on Wikipedia for some time. Every attempt to correct false information has received a blow back. Every attempt to give a balance to the defaming comments made by whoever took use of this name and has continued to attack this organization has been erased by someone. WHO HAS THE AUTHORITY over this page to edit it? 1.The material presented is incorrect in the presentation. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes those groups who apply and WANT their recognition if they want any type of Federal financial support, ability to issue I-20's to International students etc. However, there are those Christian groups who want to operate their own entity to provide Christian Education and they do not want to have the over site of the U.S. Government. THIS IS NOT A Crime. This does not mean that their work is sub-standard because standards come with comparisons. The ENTIRE page is presented in a manner that is defaming to the ACI and the over 200 schools that together choose to work together without the Federal Gov't involved. Most of these schools would exist because in most if not all states schools can get a religious exemption to operate. Having these schools commit to a standard of operation and to be accountable is an asset for education. ALSO, trying to tie the ACI to some organization that was misused by someone in oversite is defamation of character. Even if some of the schools left a previous organization, this does not speak to the ACI. The ACI has for the past 30 years been an organization that has always operated according to law, it has the highest rating from the Better Business Bureau, and the President of ACI, John Scheels is one of the kindest, most humble man you could ever know. Why is the hateful Wikipedia article allowed to remain as it and WHY is it that all attempts to correct or add corrections and explanations removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Honest Christian (talkcontribs) 00:06, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Honest Christian: - Looking through the talk page and edit history, it appears the changes were not referenced/cited using a third-party, independent source. These resources may help: WP:NPV, WP:RS, WP:NOR. While not all of the content is flattering, it is well sourced. Orville1974 (talk) 00:32, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Honest Christian. You need to understand that Wikipedia reports information given in WP:Reliable sources. If you can find such sources that give a more positive view of the organisation, then please let us know and we can adjust the Wikipedia article to give more balance. The article does not imply that any school accredited by this organisation is fraudulent. I expect some very good schools have used this accreditation. Dbfirs 07:02, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MP

[edit]

Hi,

When I click on MP under any MP's name in the infobox (take Sajid Javid for example), the link is a redirection. Can someone fix that please?

Thanks.

188.207.118.142 (talk) 04:52, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IP user. There's not much to fix. The link is to Member of the British House of Commons, which directs to House of Commons of the United Kingdom. This seems like a suitable redirect to me, as it's an article about the house that the members preside in. Wikipedia doesn't generally fix these things; but there are other articles such as Member of parliament or Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), which could be suitable redirects, but should be asked at The Politics Wikiproject, if it should redirect elsewhere. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 06:32, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I was going to change the link until I spotted that there is already a link to Member of Parliament (United Kingdom) in the lead. Dbfirs 06:40, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Tigraan! My mistake. Although, strictly speaking both are true for the original question. I could see an actual article on Member of the British House of Commons being a thing, but likely to be quite a bit of crossover to Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), which needs expansion, really. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:46, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've retargeted Member of the British House of Commons to Member of Parliament (United Kingdom) as (I'm fairly certain) the terms are synonymous. This might, incidentally, resolve 188.207's concern. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 23:29, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to IP user who refuses to engage

[edit]

For about the last 12 months, a large number of articles relating to Melbourne railway stations and railway lines have been the subject of edits by an IP user who insists on adding variations of "(until 2025)" to infoboxes and "Platforms and services" sections. The context of this is that a new route, the Metro Tunnel, will open in 2025, meaning the routing of some services will change at that time. However, a number of editors, myself included, feel that this information is not appropriate to add to individual station articles, since per WP:NOTGUIDE, these do not include all details of train routing; and nor is it helpful to simply note the information in this way on other articles, where the Metro Tunnel is usually mentioned in sourced prose. The IP has also exhibited other problematic behaviours, like violations of WP:NEO describing the post-Metro Tunnel network, and adding unsourced and wildly inaccurate commentary on construction works.

The latest incarnation of this user is at 114.72.24.184 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), but they appear to be using a dynamic IP and have previously edited from 49.176.88.175 (talk · contribs · WHOIS).

I've attempted to engage with the user on their talk page in both incarnations, but to no avail.

The crux of it is that the edits are not strict policy violations, but they're not helpful on balance, and would most likely be against consensus were a discussion to actually be possible. What possible options are available? Triptothecottage (talk) 07:24, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Triptothecottage: Open a section on Talk:List of Melbourne railway stations about it, invite the IP on User talk:114.72.24.184 to join the discussion, establish consensus. If consensus is clearly against the addition of "(until 2025)" and similar, revert future additions citing the discussion. Sam Sailor 08:02, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
... and in that discussion, cite WP:CBALL. I don't know about Australia, but here in the UK, railway projects are rarely finished on schedule. Maproom (talk) 08:22, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In the section Kate Lupton (Baroness von Schunck) - there is an inappropriate link on the word "coronation". The link should go directly to this page Coronation of George V and Mary which is more precise than the current "coronation " link. I am unable to alter - can you please do so. Thanks 175.33.248.139 (talk) 10:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have made the change. It wasn't really inappropriate; but a worthwhile change in my opinion. However, I'd suggest you place these requests on the talk page of the article in future, as this is the best location Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 10:56, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For providing appropriate link.

[edit]

On Shamsheer Vayalil wikipedia infobox, there is a net worth column in which his net worth is indicated as US dollar 1.4 billion.

In several countries people don't know about US dollar. So, in the net worth column present in the infobox, the US dollar should be provided in the form of "link". So that who so ever wants to know about US dollar will click on the link and get its true meaning. There are many successful person whose net worth contains "US dollar" in the form of link, except Shamsheer vayalil's net worth. I would like to explain that his net worth is "US dollar" 1.4 billion. My opinion is to put the link of "US dollar" only. Some editor are not in favour of adding link because they think US dollar is understood by people who are living in English speaking countries. But there are some countries in which english is not spoken by everyone, then how will they understand the meaning of US dollar. I would have added the link but I don't know how to add. If some editors are not interested to add the link, I will not mind or complain. Note : Any editor interested in adding the link may do so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.230.157.113 (talk) 14:10, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

IP user, the page isn't protected, so you can link this in the article, unless you have a conflict of interest. If you have a conflict, you should comment on the talk page of the article. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:29, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's Manual of Style deals with this point. "In non-country-specific articles such as Wealth, use US dollars (US$123 on first use, generally $123 thereafter), euros (€123), or pounds sterling (£123)", see MOS:CURRENCY. The rationale for this is to reduce all currency amounts to relatively stable currencies that are widely understood across the English-speaking world. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the link. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:32, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading Twitter profile picture under fair use

[edit]

I'd like to upload the Twitter profile picture of Erwin McManus, but under fair use, because I'm not sure if the picture is free to use or copyrighted. How do I do this. I have the picture ready and resized to meet Wikipedia's fair use policies and the source.

Thanks,
- Stinkyjaden (talk) 14:17, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Stinkyjaden[reply]

Stinkyjaden Twitter pictures aren't generally fair use. Actually, pictures of people are rarely fair use. Generally, you'd have to have free usage of images for wikipedia. Fair use is generally for things that couldn't ever be free (there's lots of exceptions, but this isn't one). Places like wiki commons, or flikr use CC-BY-SA which if done correctly are free images. Do you own any images of the subject? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Lee Vilenski: Minor nitpick: your terminology is not entirely correct. Fair use is a concept of US law (with some equivalents in other countries) which does apply to pictures of people. However, images on Wikipedia should follow the Wikipedia-specific guideline WP:NFCC, which is fair use plus a lot of other stuff; that other stuff includes "no free equivalent could be created" (NFCC#1) which has been interpreted to say that photographs of living persons are off-limits, as you said. Regarding to add some information.

[edit]

First of all tanks to the editor "ON unicorn" for such a wonderful job.

Shamsheer vayalil's wikipedia infobox his net worth is indicated as US dollar 1.4 billion. This net worth is of which month according to forbes is not indicated. This should be indicated.

Many user ask me to add these information myself only. But I want to tell everyone that at current I don't have a wikipedia account. I don't want to edit as anonymous, till then I will ask other editors to fix the problems
Sir/Madam(User:331dot) will you please explain how to post query on article talk page? If yes then go ahead if not then let other editors to fix the problem.I don't know how to post request on article talk page that's why I post request on help desk. If other editors think that my requests are irrelevant then I'm sorry.

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.230.157.113 (talk) 15:57, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Then you should ask on the article talk page; once you do, no further requests are necessary. By the way, editing without an account is actually less anonymous than creating an account, as having an account hides your IP address. 331dot (talk) 15:59, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nokubonga Ntanzi, and welcome to Wikipedia. What is your question about editing Wikipedia? --ColinFine (talk) 20:59, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To add some information.

[edit]

On Shamsheer vayalil infobox there is a net worth column. I think that the month should be indicated near the net worth ; means the month when forbes released his net worth information officially (2019).

I would have posted this request on article talk page but I want to tell all editors that I truly don't understand how to post request on article talk page. That's why I post request on help desk. Please! everyone believe me.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.230.157.113 (talk) 17:54, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The talk page is Talk:Shamsheer Vayalil. You post on it the same way you posted here, on this help desk. As far as adding the date by the net worth in the infobox, I have done that. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:27, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your edit. To revert an edit, you click on "Page history" and then click the Undo button next to the edit. Now, I suggest you use the Preview button next time, before saving the edit in order to to avoid that happening again. MadGuy7023 (talk) 19:06, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page scheduled for deletion

[edit]

Hello, a page a created was set for deletion due to lack of references two days ago. I just added them along with some links. I'd like to know how do I take off the deletion tag.

Thank you,

A — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leivaal24 (talkcontribs) 19:45, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Leivaal24: The article was "proposed for deletion" (WP:PROD). That's the least formal way to start a deletion. the "prod" process is terminated when anyone removes the {{prod}} template. You did that. No further action is needed, the "prod" is closed. The proposer may choose to now use the more formal "articles for deletion" process, but if so you will see another notification on the article's talk page. -Arch dude (talk) 20:15, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Company name in italics

[edit]

Fixed On the pages for "Telmac 1800" and "Telmac TMC-600", the manufacturing company Telercas is written in italics. Could you please tell me if this is correct? Also, both refer to Telercas as "the Finnish importer of RMC microchips". Could you please tell me if that should be "a Finnish importer" instead, rather than "the"?--Thylacine24 (talk) 23:25, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Some weeks ago, I brought up having the timeline of Poul Anderson's story "Flight to Forever" added to the page "Far future in science fiction and popular culture". The response was that I should add it to the "Requested articles" list, but since this a section of an article rather than an article proper, I'm unsure if this the right course of action to take. (I was unable to respond promptly earlier due to my hard drive having crashed, sorry.)--Thylacine24 (talk) 23:31, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thylacine24, you could add it yourself or (my recommendation) bring it up on the Far future talk page to see whether other editors think it should be a section in that article or just a mention in the long lists at the end. Schazjmd (talk) 00:01, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would add it myself, but I haven't read it because science fiction usually isn't my preferred genre; sorry that I didn't make explain that in this. (I did in the post about this I did weeks ago, though, but I forgot now, sorry.) I'll try the talk page, though, thanks.--Thylacine24 (talk) 01:14, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just added it to the talk page like you said, though it's rather sparse, so I'm not sure how long it'll be before someone sees it.--Thylacine24 (talk) 01:21, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thylacine24, I generally allow a week or two for feedback. If nobody says anything by then, I would make the edit the way I think best (adding a note to the talk page that I'm doing so because there were no objections or alternate suggestions). I'll watch that talk page and, in a week or two, check with you on whether you want to make the edit or if you'd prefer me to do it. Schazjmd (talk) 16:51, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks.--Thylacine24 (talk) 17:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
