[edit]South Azerbaijani
[edit]I have question about how Wikipedia give the name to one of its branches as South Azerbaijan language cause there doesn’t exist such a term for the language.there is no language as south Azerbaijani.Simsala111 (talk) 04:00, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Simsala111: It seems to be well-cited at Azerbaijani language#South Azerbaijani. If the cites do not verify that, please discuss it at Talk:Azerbaijani language. Thanks. (I've also changed the title of this section to better reflect the subject.) —[AlanM1(talk)]— 06:28, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- @AlanM1: There is no language as south Azerbaijani and there doesn’t exist location with name of South Azerbaijan?its only a term for people who want independent from Iran and are Secession it’s more political term.iran already has east and west Azerbaijan province but the term of southern Azerbaijan is completely political and not a scientific term.Simsala111 (talk) 14:52, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Simsala111: Again, please discuss it at Talk:Azerbaijani language if that is the article that you thing is wrong, and you have sources that you can cite (though proving a negative is difficult). Be aware that statements in articles on Wikipedia are based on what reliable sources have published, not what you or I thinks (or even "knows") is true. Citations are provided so editors can verify statements. Click on those links to read more about our policies. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 02:03, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Ray Allen
[edit]On two occasions, I've cited reputable sources stating that Ray Allen, former NBA all-star, holds a position on the Board of Trustees of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. He was appointed by President Obama at the end of 2016, and still held that position as of November 2019. The Council website lists him as such. Both times I provided sources, and both times my edit has been removed. It's well established from countless sources that this information is accurate, but apparently there are some Wikipedia users who object to seeing it in Ray's biography. I've edited two other Wikipedia articles, and did not run into the same problem. My question is, what must I do to get this important information properly recorded in Ray's biography?

- Try asking this question at Talk:Ray Allen. General Ization Talk 04:30, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Also, typing "CBS Sports" between two <ref> tags is not a valid citation of a reliable source. This is why your contribution has been removed several times now. General Ization Talk 04:34, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Gary Martin Rosenberg: I restored the content here and cited it to two reliable sources (the USHMM site and a Miami Herald article). See those links for future reference. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 07:22, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

Text of specific disclaimer inappropriately added to Viktor Frankl by now-blocked user Palimpsest 100
|
---|
Disclaimer This Wikipeda article was written by user Boundarylayer. It it to be read with caution, as it presents the views of its author, which seem to be based on quite a few misunderstandings, as well as on distorted information. This disclaimer was written by a third party, as a reaction to the pervasive bias present in the text. User Boundarylayer does not mention Frankl’s work with the Young Socialist Workers (1921), his position as spokesman of the Austrian Socialist High School Students Association (1924), nor the forced abortion of his wife’s child by the Nazis (1942). What the text below contains is a reductionistic rendering of the work of Tymothy Pytell. The American historian openly confessed bias, as well as disdain for Viktor Frankl. Resentment from Holocaust survivors is also expressed below. Curiously enough, some seem to equate ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ / ‘Work Shall Set You Free’, the criminal Nazi logo looming over Auschwitz, with Frankl’s idea that life is meaningful because of one’s work, one’s love, or because of one’s adopting an attitude of defiance when faced with difficulty. With all due respect, it is not apparent where this resentment comes from. However, it is visible that it produces a distorted reading, to say the least. The link between work and freedom goes back to Alfred Adler, who, alongside Freud, was one of Frankl’s important influences. As a sidenote, Nazi psychotherapy was based on the ideas of Alfred Adler, as Matthias Goring had been trained in this school. However, Alfred Adler himself was a social idealist, publicly known for his socialist political affiliation. The use of his ideas about ‘will to power’ by the Nazis would have surely made him uneasy. The profound misunderstanding of those ideas by the Nazis as regards his theory of man and society would have been deeply troubling. At this point it becomes obvious that the complexity of Frankl’s theory and thinking is either misrepresented, or overlooked in the text below. Furthermore, anything religious is presented as authoritarian - be it organized religion, personal religious experience, or intellectual pursuits of a spiritual nature. The whole text is written less as an encyclopedia entry, as it is used by the author, user Boundarylayer, as an opportunity to strike someone as a Nazi and as an intellectual buffoon. In comparison, the work of Pytell is moderate. However, Pytell’s interpretation is obviously marked by his atheism and his respective ignorance of all things outside his worldview. This makes him blind to religious concerns deeply shared by other important therapists of Frankl’s age. Just to give an example, one can cite here, again, the name of Alfred Adler. Then, the idea that logotherapy is ‘authoritarian’, expressed by one of Frankl’s American colleagues, Rollo May, is quite absurd if one reads Frankl’s work. This reaction stems from an automatic association of religion and authoritarianism, which is part of the post-Enlightenment worldview. However, in logical terms, to equate religion with dictatorship is only a ‘wild generalization’. Also, the idea that Frankl ‘provided meaning’ to his patients is quite humorous. It also goes against his methodology, which actually meant quietly assisting someone find his own way. What the accusation above underlines is a deep mistrust in the very idea of meaning, which is part of a nihilistic outlook Frankl obviously was not an adept of, unlike some of his American colleagues. However, when voiced in all sincerity, this mistrust is a sign of conflicting sources of meaning, going against what Frankl defined as such for himself, which is both legitimate and acceptable. In any case, whatever Frankl meant by ‘therapy’, ‘meaning’, or ‘religion’ is not at issue. Rather it is his public persona that is being aimed at. There is nothing below that successfully disproves Frankl as a psychiatrist and as an innovator in his discipline. To try to do that would mean to take his work into account, and that is not something you will find in the article written by user Boundarylayer. What you will find is angry reflections of Pytell’s work on Frankl’s collaborationism, or on his experiments on deceased people. Questioning one’s predecessors is a duty. However, what seems to be laid on the table here is a yet not properly grounded set of accusations issued by Pytell, as well as a great need that these were believed by the reader according to the narrative proposed by user Boundarylayer. |

Juhayna (company) how to remove this template message, there are already resources about the company.--Ahmed Nader Khalifa (talk) 09:49, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, Ahmed Nader Khalifa. All three of the referecnes currently in the article are based on interviews or press releases from the company. Thus they are not independent of the company, and do nothing whatever to establish that the company is notable, and may be the subject of a Wikipedia article. Please understand that Wikipedia is basically uninterested in what the subject of an article says about itself, whether in its own publications, or in interviews or press releases. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and unprompted by the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable places. Unless (at least) two or three such sources are added, the article is likely to get deleted. --ColinFine (talk) 10:20, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
So i should provide more resources from different newspapers?, okay let me provide them please don’t delete it --Ahmed Nader Khalifa (talk) 01:21, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- It's not about which newspaper, Ahmed Nader Khalifa: it is about whether the source is indepedent. Those articles are based on interviews or press releases, so are not indepedent. The same newspaper might have another article another day which is independent of the company. You need to look at every source with a critical eye. As for deleting it: nobody has so far nominated Juhayna (company) for deletion, but they might if it does not acquire some independent sources. --ColinFine (talk) 12:47, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, ColinFine i added sources from news paper and they aren't from interviews or press releases from the company, i think this what wikipedia is looking for right ?--Ahmed Nader Khalifa (talk) 10:14, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- I'm afraid not, Ahmed Nader Khalifa. The two Ahram sources are both very short, and quote Thabet: they are neither independent, nor substantial. The third one might be independent, but it is more likely from the company's annual report. Either way it is a routine summary of their financial status, not a substantial piece about the company. Again, you need to find somewhere where people who have no connection with the company have chosen, unprompted by the company to publish substantial material about the company. It is quite possible that nobody has yet done so, since the company is quite new, and that the company is not (yet) notable in Wikipedia's sense. See WP:No amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability. --ColinFine (talk) 11:00, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- hi, ColinFine i have alot of sources but i only add 3 because i think they were enough.
- ColinFine in Egypt their language is arabic so you aren't find alot of newspapers in english language, see?

- You seem to be confused about what Wikipedia is and is not. This is an encyclopedia, not your website, and we are volunteers. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 12:59, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Our editors (about 120,000 in the last 30 days) are all volunteers. Each of us does whatever we want, none of us are obligated to do anything, and nobody assigns tasks to editors. If you have a constructive suggestion for improvement to an article, you should do it yourself, unless (as in this case) you have a conflict of interest (WP:COI). When you have a COI, you should make your suggestion on the talk page of the affected article, being careful to provide links to reliable sources to make live easier for any editor who might wish to help you even though they are not getting paid. If you attempt to browbeat the editors, you will be ignored. -Arch dude (talk) 04:01, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Wikipedia
I write to you on behalf of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) and we seriously complaint about a wrong and misleading information of our organisation NUSOJ in Wikipedia. The concerned link is https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/National_Union_of_Somali_Journalists
NUSOJ is a craft union which is an affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). We have been a victim for many years of an egregious human rights oppression by the government of Somalia which has used several elements including notorious PR agency to destroy and take over union unlawfully. The human rights oppression against us was widely condemned even by the UN human rights experts: https://www.ohchr.org/en/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=19924&LangID=E
The UN’s international labour organisation has investigated our oppression and confirmed that our government is guilty ridden and we are the legitimate leadership of NUSOJ. See attached ILO decisions which the government finally accepted.
The name of our organisation is trademarked. In my capacity as NUSOJ Secretary General, I am is the owner of the European Union Trade Mark registrations no. 015991169 and 017884365 for the name and the logotype of the “National Union of Somali Journalists NUSOJ”, in class 41. I am authorized by NUSOJ to register said marks. The above EUTM registrations legally allow me to prevent third parties from using, in the course of publishing such as the case now in Wikipedia, any identical or similar signs for the same or similar services (Article 9 European Union Trade Mark Regulation).
This clearly puts Wikipedia in an infringement position of trademarked name. The person who has been impersonating as NUSOJ, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu (which is still mentioned in Wikipedia as representative of our union) was convicted by the EU court of trademarks in Alicante, Spain, that he has no right to use the name of NUSOJ and now is being punished. He was further convicted by the German court in Hamburg. We sent court rulings into your email: info-en-q@wikimedia.org
Yesterday we tried to edit the information about our organisation NUSOJ in Wikipedia to provide accurate information but today one of the editors User: A-NEUN had removed our accurate information and reinserted the old, false information. Furthermore, user A-NEUN threatened that we will be “blocked from editing” and accused us of copyright infringement. No, this is not true, as there is no copyright infringement as we got the information we inserted from our own website (http://www.nusoj.org/about-us/).
We therefore to request you to rectify this wrong information by reinserting the accurate information we inserted yesterday and respect our trademark rights of NUSOJ.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards Omar

- I have no idea about which information is correct, but the website to which you link has a copyright notice that Wikipedia takes seriously, therefore you cannot copy content from that site, even if you wrote it yourself, without releasing the copyright. It would be simpler to express the same information in alternative words to avoid copyright issues. Because you have a WP:Conflict of interest, it would be best if you suggest changes on the talk page of the article. Wikipedia just reports what it finds in WP:Reliable sources, but I guess the 2016 source is now out of date and the facts need updating. Dbfirs 15:01, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, Faruk129. Trademark law, in both the US (the jurisdiction Wikipedia is subject to) and the EU generally limits use of a trademark withotu authorization to sell or advertise mproducts or services, or where customers or potential customers might reasonably be confused about who is responsible for a product or service, or a statement about a product or service. it does not prevent others from discussing the trademarked product or organization, and using the trademark to identify it. If you seriously think Wikipedia has infringed your trademark, you should contact the Wikimedia Foundation (see WP:WMF).
- Please respect our No legal threats policy which says that anyone engaged in a legal dispute over Wikipedia content must stop editing during the suit, and that no one may make explicit or implied threats of legal action on Wikipedia.
- In general Wikipedia does not accept text copied from external sites unless it has been publicly released to the public domain, or under a compatible license such as CC-BY-SA, or is shot enough and suitable to treat as a quotation. In any case content from an outside site is usually not suitable for inclusion in an article. See Wikipedia:Copyrights.
- If article content is inaccurate, that can be raised on the article talk page. Please cite reliable sources to show what the correct information is. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:10, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
Multiple uses of the same reference
[edit]Hey all, my question: Let's say we're looking at Rajavinte Makan. The financial data in the infobox is attributed to this source, formatted thusly:
- <ref name="Rajavinte Makan">{{Cite web |url=https://www.manoramaonline.com/movies/movie-news/2018/10/02/mohanlal-thampi-kannanthanam.html |title=ഒറ്റ ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് മോഹൻലാലിനെ സൂപ്പർസ്റ്റാറാക്കിയ തമ്പി കണ്ണന്താനം |date=2018-10-02 |website=[[Malayala Manorama]] |access-date=2018-10-02}}</ref>
Now if another piece of information is suppored by that reference, I would use this format to repeat the reference inline elsewhere in the article.
- <ref name="Rajavinte Makan"/>
Is there any way for me to repeat the reference, but add a quote? I know the {{cite web}} template has a quote parameter, but the quote I want would not be relevant to the film's financial data. So I want to point to the same reference, but note something different about it. How would I do that? Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:59, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- It's not currently possible, I believe. But there's a feature under development that would allow you do this. When the feature is enabled on enwiki you'd be able to add quote to the second reference and not the first by using
<ref extends="Rajavinte Makan">Your quote here</ref>
. – Ammarpad (talk) 17:47, 25 December 2019 (UTC)- Ah. Interesting! Thanks Ammarpad. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:03, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Ammarpad, that's interesting! Is there a board or article we can put on our watchlists so we can be informed when new features (like that one) are added? Schazjmd (talk) 18:12, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Schazjmd: It will certainly be announced on Tech News. You can watch the projects's page m:WMDE Technical Wishes/Book referencing on Meta. In addition you can test the feature on Beta Enwiki as it's currently deployed there. – Ammarpad (talk) 07:03, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)
- Meh. If the quote is important to the article, put the quote in the article text and then cite it; don't hide the quote away somewhere in the bowels of the references section. Also, your cite web should be using
|script-title=
instead of|title=
and also|language=

- Well, it's not my cite web. I just happened upon the article, where the reference already existed. But I'll fix it. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:24, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Well I like quotes in reference sections if they make verification easier. You could do short footnotes:
<ref>Kumar, 2018: "Bla bla bla"</ref>
or a linked<ref>{{harvnb|Kumar|2018}}: "Bla bla bla"</ref>
(note that you need to add|last=Kumar|year=2018|ref=harv
to the original citation for the link to work). An alternative but lesser used solution is a nested reference:{{refn|"Bla bla bla"<ref name="Rajavinte Makan"/>}}
– Thjarkur (talk) 20:11, 25 December 2019 (UTC)- @Þjarkur: Thanks for that. I think {{refn}} seems to be the easiest. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:25, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

I made an article about mma fighter Da Un Jung but someone deleted my article.
[edit]I received a message from someone that to put an article about mma fighter, mma fighter should fight more than 3 fights in top-tier organizations.
So, my article was deleted. Then, what about trying hard and investigating a lot of information about him? Is that all deleted? How can I get that one more time that I wrote? Please answer my questions please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CSIing (talk • contribs) 20:43, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi CSIing - Orangemike deleted your article as it didn't meet the MMA guidelines for notability. I'm not entirely sure we should be outright deleting drafts due to not quite meeting notability guidelines, but if there is a lot of information that you would like to see again, you can either try the above user's talk, or WP:REFUND. I don't know much about the subject, but if they simply need another fight, it may be a WP:NOTNOW situation. I don't see the hard in a draft for the article existing - but I also can't see the article to comment on the quality of it.
- Hopefully the above is helpful. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:22, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, CSIing. I have posted at User talk:Orangemike asking Orangemike (the deleting admin) to restore the draft. However, even if it is restored, notability will need to be established in some fashion for this to be an article. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 17:57, 26 December 2019 (UTC)
